Are there seriously no other alternatives than farming the two same god forsaken dungeons. I think I can do Xepha and the Library with my eyes closed.

I actually have no idea why the Expert Roulette is so small compared to the others. Should be 6-8 dungeons minimum.
You can pretty much cap the 900 just doing your daily Roulettes every day during the week and that will give you more variety in content.
It gets worse when you realize all the dungeons are just reskinned hallways.
Yeah that's what I do.
I actually prefer the level 60 roulettes, because I could end up anywhere, and pop into a dungeon I havent' seen in a long time.
I generally go SMN for...
Level 60 Dungeon Roulette
Leveling Dungeon Roulette
Expert Roulette
Trials
Then I'll swap and BLM (I moonlight as BLM on occasion) for...
Level 50 Dungeon Roulette
Main Story Campaign Roulette
May not be the best way but PotD gives a fair amount if you're wanting the weapons or loot. Least how I capped for a month or so prior to the cap increase, havn't cared much since I started back up.
Other content should reward more tomes.
It may be an unpopular choice, but I've been capping almost every week since Patch 3.3 doing PvP.
1. It's nowhere near as bad/toxic as word of mouth has misled people to believe.
2. As you're facing real players, there's no stale, scripted events.
3. Your job, for the most part, plays differently in there, so again less of the same ol'.
4. There's also a roulette for Frontlines, and 8v8 Feast does award tomes. Less than a roulette, but also takes less time.
5. You also earn Wolf Marks which you can buy (non-essential) PvP gear for glamour, desynthesis, the cute cheerleader minion, and (currently) 2 orchestrion rolls.
Again, might be an unpopular choice for all the wrong reasons, but give it a try.
WT one liner some weeks, farm alex savage, farm ex primals. I don't mind running a few ex roulettes a week, though.
Uesd to be 3 dungeons for at least most of 2.x, but with HW they only added 2 dungeons per major patch... The 450 limit was easy to fill, the 900 limit could use an increase in tomestones rewarded from the content.
Nope, because Expert is designed to offer a player the most efficient way to cap 450 tomes. 900 tomes now is just a nice incentive to help people prepare for 4.0/have a starting edge, which is funny cause SE doubles the weekly limit and yet people will still find something to complain about.
As for Expert, if they had the 2 new dungeon and the 2 old dungeons you run into this issue. 70-90 Scriptures per Expert done daily meaning you have a chance to get anywhere from 490-630. However if we first focus on 450, divided by 70 means you need to do Expert all 7 days to cap if you just do that but if it's at 90 it's 5 days, huge difference. And honestly it's most likely more work for them to create a mess of a system in which they somehow make it where when you do Expert Roulette you will always get 90 Scriptures while allowing the 2 newest and 2 oldest into it that it's just not worth it.
Heck adding lv 60 dungeons that 15 + X (X is dungeon scripture gains). So at min you gain 25 and at max 45 on top of 90 from Expert, so from there you gain 115-135 tomes daily, At Min with 450 that's 4 days to cap, at max 4 days. With basic math you can clearly see why Expert is the way it is, if they changed it where there was a variable in how many scriptures you gained daily it would create a variable in which you may need to do 5-7 to cap, however if you do Expert+60 roulette it is guaranteed to reduce the amount of days you need to play by 1 since the 60 dungeon variable doesn't affect it as much.
Sadly though in the case of only doing those two to cap at 900 it's 8 days(115 daily) and 7 days(135 daily), so in the cast of getting the min you would still need to get at least 95 Scriptures to cap but for max you would be over by 35.
Basically, people need to stop looking at roulette's as why is there only two options and understand that they are designed to help casual players/people short on time to reach their weekly tome cap with ease. Yes this means there are only 2 options for the top tier, but because of that you can gain the most efficient amount of tomestones per day and be done in 5 days if that's all you have time to complete.
2.x had 3 dungeons in Expert. Satasha (HM), Keeper of the Lake, and Wanderer's Palace (HM). But back then it was Expert Roulette, and Hard Roulette. I think Hard Roulette were just easier post 50 dungeons, although there was no level cap and Holy/Flare damage didn't diminish, so WHM, BLM in your group meant short as hell dungeons.
I cap without trying every week. Pvp, bird farming, Savage farming, occasional roulette. No stress, no worry. I even went and figured out how much more I need, and I only need to fully cap 2 more weeks for gear before just getting to 2k for Stormblood
XD I havent capped those new(or latest?) tomes since we got them! Lol
I mean, I got tired of just having 2 spaces called roulete Wheel! x:
I mainly get 20-90 Tomes per week ;o
I just cap from doing expert and other farming like lights and whatever. There been some weeks I had no farming to do, in that case was just frontline daily (pvp) and expert. I do not see the big deal since expert is supposed to be picks from the current and hardest dungeons.
I cap on Thursdays without even trying - just daily roulettes, helping friends and putting in effort.
That's what I like about this game: you put the effort in, you get the results from it.
Don't wanna work for it ? Then you don't get anything either.
I do the roulettes, vaath beast tribe quests, and hunts whenever I see an A rank has popped.
The problem is everyone feels a "need" to cap. Just play at your own pace. I've only maxed out twice since the cap got to 900 but I've been able to use the extra tomes to gear other jobs and a few extra upgrades. I dunno why people feel a need to cap, why do you need a limit?
Edit: Honestly I feel less of a need to cap now that its 900 instead of 400. I can get a gear piece once a week with little to no worry of capping so I can afford to get gear at a weekly rate.
oh keep in mind I am doing this on 2 chrs, so I am getting 1800 a week while still able overflood both (since I am on this one farming lights here and there currently, I cap very early this week farming a9s and a10s for gear/ lights while the other caps easier due to trying do more roulette for lore.) Trying get 3 more relics total before update off roulette, 2 for one, and 1 other for me, having relics for both jobs I have)
People really have issues getting to 900? I just can't understand why, all you need is 2 dailies to do that, and that is pvp frontline and expert.
I got cap every week when it was 450.
As soon as it was 900 a week. I'm luckly to get 200 tomes.
i wonder why TC mentions xelphatol and great gubal library when the current expert is sohm al and baelsar's wall. wish it was still the former.
also doing expert and 60 (and/or frontline) isn't really grinding.
on the other hand you are not forced to cap unless you have nothing atm and want to be 270 until stormblood. but in this case you would also do mhach raids (or savage) maybe even some A12n.
I always cap around Thursday without even trying. I just do my roulettes, treasure maps ans raids.
It's because today's EX dungeons eventually become next month's level 60 dungeons, which eventually become next years leveling dungeons. Adding more EX dungeons today may help for today. Next month and next year however, it's just going to add more dungeon bloat and not really accomplish anything. EX will still be small, while level 60 and leveling will still be engorged.
lv 60 roulette, raids, PvP
Don't limit yourself to the expert dungeons.
Or wait until the weekly cap is at 450 again in 1 1/2 months.
I don't know if people realize this but if you do maps, you can get a large amount of tomes quickly if you have a full group and get Acropolois a bunch of times.
go a1s, 15 scripture per 3 min
the best time was in 2.2:
6 dungeons wich all gave the same amount of tomes and ct1 wich gave the double amount, but also took longer. we never again had that much variety in farming tomes...
and i really don't understand it. instead of adding new dungeons wich gives us more and more variety they are adding 2 new ones and make all the old ones useless...
they could always just have dungeons remain as "expert" for 2 patches instead of 1 so we have 4 going at once
but with pvp, dun scaith, hunts, roulettes, treasure hunt, palace of the dead, etc i don't find it to be difficult to max unintentionally sometimes
I capped last week only doing expert once. There's tons of other stuff that gives tomes.
Oh its even worse when you're trying to build up an Anima Weapon too.
Every piece of my gear with the exception of 2 pieces is at i270 (Improved Shire, do have some Demonic Pieces from Dun). But that Anima weapon has been sitting at i230 for about 3 weeks now. Even with the nerf (ie two crystal sands) I'm never going to have this thing ready by Stormblood which will probably make it irrelevent anyway.
I could get two strings of items togather for roughly 2 crystal sands per day prior... for... a whopping 2 points per day... when you needed 240 points to get it to i240. Even after the Nerf, which doubled the Sands you get I'm still only at 220 points on the weapon just to get it to i240, and that's after solid grinding for tomes.
If I'd have known this was going to be that big of a hassle I'd probably have gone after a dropped weapon instead. This is painfully slow.
Your mistake is only doing dungeons to cap tomes. For the past few weeks, I've reached 900/900 by doing A1S light farms and bird farms. Very time-efficient.
3 points per 1 sand* ^
