So i got a taste of the glitched Dissipation.. and i miss it

Blah blah abusing in game glitches are bad... but Dissipation is a very situational skill. You would use it during long animations times and anywhere else that wouldnt cause a severe trade off for healing.

When you use the skill you are sacrificing an ai that can react quickly or be under your control for 30+ seconds, swiftcast or multiple gcds to hard cast. You do get MP back but your coheal probably just ends up losing it.

With the glitched way, You get a free fairy swap (2 stacks = same mp) + healing buff (not that it really effects the ability) + 3 stacks to manipulate as you please.


The fact that this skill encouraged quick fairy swaps is what made me love it. You are sacrificing swiftcast and a gcd as a tradeoff but it's worth it.

I think they should carry this over into stormblood and just change it slightly.

Dissipation: Upon execution you gain 3 Aetherflow stacks and your fairy is sent away. Healing done while under the effect of dissipation is increased by 20%.

Your next summon or summon II is instant cast. When summon or summon II is cast, the effect of dissipation ends.


It's not Broken. It's on a 180 second cool down. The healing buff is very meh. The MP cost is very real and it still costs you a gcd to use.


I got the taste of the good life and I think Scholar has sooo much more flavor with it.

[If they wanna make the skill really interesting they would add a critical rate buff instead of healing buff, causing you to balance healing from fairy and extra dps from the crit, but the fairy swap is what i really want to see.]

no idea what glitch thinkg you refer to but I will agree the healing buff is useless. doesn't buff lustrate or indomnibility for example...

and genereally speaking given the expense of resummoning your fairy it's really not worth using dissipation if you're in a pinch because the cost of getting your fairy back will cripple you even more getting the stacks might be usefull in a real pinch but again in that pinch you'd really think the potency buff would affect lustrates and indomnibility...

I've never found a use for dissipation personally. even the absolute worst of parties. it's never worth losing the fairy... even mathematically doesn't add up.

physkik + embrace is more potent than phykik with + 20% potency.. that's why I've never found it worth losing my fairy for.. especially when it costs a little under 2000 mp to get your fairy back...

if I had that much mp to spare I wouldn't need dissipation in the first place....

If you used dissipation while resummoning your fairy with a fairy still out, it would eat the fairy that was going away and you would gain dissipation's effects and your new summon would come out. So you could dissipate and have a fairy out.

They fixed this last patch.

Not going to lie. This completely changed the way I do fights. I hope they add something like how the fairy glitch was to 4.0 as well

I'll keep hoping SE suck it up and change it to a flat 20% potency boost across the board (perhaps with a reduced duration to keep it in line) =(

The glitch showed what sort of playstyle scholar could have. The glitch is dead. I'm just asking SE to consider making it part of the Scholar's playstyle here forward. It made an ok skill good.

I just assumed you, and potential readers may not know that if they used the glitch, they were in violation of the EULA. I mean... the alternative is assuming you knew it was a violation and came to the conclusion that documenting your exploits on the official forums was a good idea.

Not being salty winsock. xD I'll take the free bump. The glitch let SCH experience what this skill could do. Kinda like an unwanted beta test for a skill rebalance.

I honestly feel silly wishing for buffs on SCH... LOL, but I agree Dissipation is one of those horribly niche skills that's just sitting there looking longingly at you from your hotbar. I like your suggestion, but also think it kinda defeats the original purpose of the skill, so I'm not surprised it got patched out.

Honestly, though, to make it more worthwhile, I think Dissipation should reset the CD timers on all fairy skills. It's way more powerful -perhaps concerningly so,- but at least the 30 secs without Lilly plus the massive MP cost and loss of Swiftcast would more or less be worth it to get two super WDs or two Fey Winds in a one minute span. Still situational, but now much more in line with the rest of SCH's tactical toolkit.

Oh that would be soo good. It would even work with the Fairy swap opener if you needed beefier fairy regens off the start + Fey Wind.

I would gladly trade the Aether flow to make it just a swift fairy swap. How about if you get a buff depending on what fairy you swap to instead of always the healing buff.

Like if you swap Eos you get the healing buff and if you swap Selene you get increased cast speed.

For these various forms of fairy swapping, how do you balance for players using it as "Fairy is about to die, time to Dissipate and get a new one"?

(disclaimer, not at end game content, don't know how that concern is addressed either way)

Sounds more like a skill bonus... You can already dissipate a dying fairy.

The Fairy doesn't typically die and there is already Swift Cast so I don't think that's something that would need to be balanced around.

As far as creator there's really only a handful of things that could kill the Fairy. Faust cleave, Refurbisher clear, Cruise Chaser crusher skill, 2nd EDD cleave, Alexander Divine Spear or Punishing Heat cleave. All can be avoided by placing the pet at the start of the fight.

I actually got called out as a bad player on Reddit for saying that I don't, & won't, use cheats like this. Apparently it's letting other players down by not using the system to your advantage.

People who exploit stuff like this are cheaters, pure & simple. They're gaining an unfair advantage by doing something that they shouldn't. I don't know how anyone can defend it.

first of all I haven't used any exploits in ff14 yet - cause I personally don't need them. that being said using an exploit in general is grey-zoned, its not cheating in its core meaning - its a game-design failure. you are not using a 3rd party tool nor you change any game files or code data. aside from that Schs in PVE gaining what kind of advantage in the end? It boosts the healer, if the healer is boosted the whole grp is boosted as well... so everybody gains the advantage in the end - win win situation. cause its an exploit and not a cheat itself - EVERY Sch ingame can use it the same way you don't have to be special skilled or smt like that - you just have to be aware that the glitch is around... pvp is another story, there it might be an advantage but even here... everybody can use it - can't see the advantage to be honest.

broken game-mechanics aren't the problem of the player base - its the devs prob to solve them.

..... It is not remotely a gray area. The exact verbiage agreed to in the EULA is "In addition, you may not take advantage of game system bugs and exploits during gameplay." You cannot play the game without agreeing to this.

People who use exploits and/or 3rd party cheats are taking advantage of a vulnerability in the system to make their character more powerful than the developers intended. Whether you do this manually or programmatically makes no difference.

hmm okay than SE backed themselves up compared to other online games - after all its just dumb to say we made a mistake and you will be punished if you use this mistake... morally it's still arguable to call you a cheater because you don't "cheat" - everything what is possible without a workaround or tool is not cheating at all.

In FFXI there was a glitch that multiplied the loot when you rearranged your alliance in the middle of content. Definitely cheating, although no external tools were used. It was used by many active endgamers who believed that since it was in the game and it was "impossible to get caught" (or determine if it was done on purpose or not), there wouldn't be any consequences. Months later SE conducted mass bannings on everyone who'd been involved. Was pretty funny back then. :D

yeah reminds me of the duping glitch in Ragnarok online as well... but after all it's not the players fault if the devs messed up. some of them can be game-breaking won't deny that - if a glitch/exploit shows up their task is to remove it or at least hotfix it as soon as possible - reading your comment "Month later" makes me smile... cause it just showed their incompetence to do so. every-severbased game got the chance to roll-back items or money, mass-ban waves for devs incompetence is just a joke... .___.

Been saying all along the glitch was likely an accidental result of when they front-loaded NIN Armor Crush refreshing Huton immediately and AST Draw cards now being immediate in 3.5.

Was kind of nice to use because instead of ever doing a hot fairy swap, you always Dissipate. The skill was never not useful, maybe if you only do casual content and not any high-end raids.

Nope, didn't "soar over my head at all". I didn't use it because I didn't need to use it. It's not how SCH is meant to play. I mean, why not have it so Embrace is a 800 potency heal with a 45 yalm range? Maybe because that's overpowered, you know, like having all your buffs up permanently by cheating? ¬_¬

Just because you didn't use it, doesn't mean that it didn't create more interesting interaction within an SCHs tool kit... This thread is essentially asking that dissipation take on the spirit of what the glitch was able to do. You know, a skill suggestion? Lol. You can leave the salt at the dinner table or above the stove. That's where i keep mine. :3

I'd remove the insta summon to give SCH another reason to swiftcast.

The CD of dissipation is high enough for this to be reasonable, and in the event swiftcast is on cooldown, you are only out an additional gcd.

In addition this allows opportunities for teamwork between healers. For example, if someone dies while dissipation is active, having your co-healer sc res is likely a better option despite the SCH MP management.
