Relic hasn't been worth it since i90.
Doing a relic is as worthless as playing the game itself at all.
At the very least its worth doing if you like the appearance and want to use it for glamour.
you can do zur extreme ilvl 265 and you can also , do any raid tier in the game now all of them are unlocked and have echo if that helps , but if you arent gona do raids or trails Id just stick with kinna. Just like hw dungeons Im sure the first few want be that hard and can be done with a kinna just fine
if you want it simply for stats I'd say no because theyre going to be outdated soon enough
and its still gonna take you weeks to do it,depending how much time youre willing to dump into it.
(once you have your first relic completed, you can always work on several stages of the relic at the same time, which makes it a lot easier and faster but if that doesnt apply to you,its still gonna take a lot of time despite the nerfs)
if you are into glamours and appreciate the relic for its looks and also would like a headstart in the next SB relic, I'd say go for it...
It depends really - mostly on what you want to do in the game.
Seeing how you dont raid and consider even the normal version of the raids to challenging for you to enjoy, you certainly dont need an ilvl250+ weapon - for daily stuff a Kinna or crafted one will totally do the trick and with 4.0 we will be getting weapons that are better than the relic around level 66/67, I assume (at least it was this way with HW), so you'll get a decent weapon very quick in 4.0 to toss your current one.
So if you're not intrested in raids (may it be normal or savage) or EX-primals you certainly dont need the weapon for the stats.
Here are a few points/questions you can ask yourself to see if the relic is worth it for you - at least I'm asking myself those questions each time I start a new relic (currently on the second one):
- Do you like the look of the weapon and want to use it for glamour at somepoint? Stats get tossed, but looks... looks are forever! Basically: If you want to get the relic for the looks at somepoint anyways, why not continue to work on it right now anyways?
- Do you want to work on something for a longer period of time? Personally I start relics also to give myself a reason to play - so, if you want to play and want to have a feeling of progress that you cant achieve elsewhere (because everything intresting is level 60 etc. etc. - the normal "theres nothing to do for me"-problem) a relic might not be the worst choice as long as you can take it easy and relax about the progress and dont need it tomorrow!
- Do you have nothing to spend your tomes on anymore? Relics are lore-hungry. Really, really, really lore-hungry. Which is "great" when you feel you're drowining in them because its giving you a decent option to spend them! If you're short on lores because... well, I'm sure there is stuff to spend lore on besides umbrite... you should probably let the relic pass for now. If you dont know what to do with lore though: Buy umbrites and tones of umbrites, because you'll need them and continue on your journey to raise your little soul!
Bismarck and Ravana ex would still be trivial at current ilvls, if you haven't done those. I mean my last Bismarck group had at least one person who probably shouldn't have been there due to having leveling gear on still and a few people fell off the platform for one reason or another, but we never wiped. Ravana barely has time to do mechanics and you can survive a lot of things you shouldn't be able to even if you do mess up.
Like everyone has said, in the long run it won't be worth it because SB is right around the corner. But if you're looking for something to do until then, it's a good goal to work towards. That's pretty much the only reason to do it is to fill time.
If HW is anything to go by relic-wise, finishing your relic now will give you a leg up on SB's relic. I know I plan to finish, and the fact that they're excellent looking weapons doesn't hurt anything.
It will give you an advantage going in to SB relic. It will also still be the strongest weapon until at least level 65
ha i dont think anyone was sayin you should stop playing if the anima was keeping you busy and you are having fun doing it then I def wouldnt stop. I thought you where sayin you wanted to know if the weapons stats would be worth having once sb comes. But if thats what is keeping you in game then I wouldn't stop if your enjoying it, I dont think anyone here was actually recommending you stopping until sb
Personally I love relics,
Able to make a weapon with the stats I want to focus to me is better than farming / finding a group that won't listen to mechanics or takes it seriously. While farming EX or Raid weapons are better for some they become obsolete and just glamor later on. As long as you keep up with relics in a timely manner they are worth it. If you loosen your momentum then yeah they can be a pain. At least one thing is for sure, people who grind relics, ( Personal opinion and what I have encountered for a very long time ) understand their job better than most and are willing to follow mechanics than others who tend to have Raid or EX weapons.
If you like how it looks, go for it, I still do old zodiac weapons for glamour and anima should last you until level 66 or so. Hopefully it might also skip a step of the next weapon, so you'd be saving time by doing it now that there's nothing else to do.
It isn't a stupid question. I just finished getting my anima to ilvl 260. It is the lore grind for Umbrite to get it to ilvl 240 that takes the most time (5-6 weeks for me and I'm retired). I used the Hailstorm Grimoire and Augmented Hailstorm Grimoire up until the anima reached ilvl 240 as it had better crit stats for my SMN. If you haven't already done this to get the Eikonic weapon you will need a High-Capacity Tomestone which is purchased with 4 Midan Gears and 10 Rowena's Tokens of Lore. This weapon can be upgraded to ilvl 240. Given where we are at in the release cycle you could get the Eikonic weapon faster than the anima. If you still want the anima you could work on it at your leisure which helps maintain sanity with the lore grind for Umbrites.
Really I've always felt like doing the Anima weapons were too time consuming. It was fun back in ARR when that's all we had to do after hitting lvl 50, but now with so much variety in the game it seems like a waste to spend so much time on a weapon. Don't get me wrong, I think the fully upgraded Lux weapons are very pretty, and there is a certain sense of accomplishment in finishing it out, but it definitely isn't for everyone. Like some people said, there are better/stronger options than the Anima weapon. It just depends on what you want to do.
Worth it for glamour (Bonus: you get an acheivement if you're into that). :)
Is relic 275 worth it well when i as an whm out heal the other healer and out dps the dps I'd say it's worth it. And I'm going to even further refine it. I love pushing over 4k hps/dps and critical over 6k so compared to others it us totally customizable.
Having the weapon itself might not be worth much, since the expansion will be released in less then 75 days, but from I read the final quest reward will include a minion and the weapon will most likely be used to skip some of the 4.0 Relic stages. I dont have an Anima weapon right now, but I think its worth it for those two things.
Here is an actual dumb question. I just want verification. I haven't ever done the zodiac weapons and finally finished those annoying books on my downtime. Would you recommend melding materia for these even though the stats don't matter anymore or should I skip it and go with the 2 only stats it comes with? I just want finish one and get one for glamour.
Yep pretty much you will converted at the end for skipping crystal grind if you make it into a Zeta so up to you. When farming light you just have to make sure you enter the dungeon / raid with it, change weapon, at end before engaging final fight switch it back on for credit.
If you are looking for something to do in the game then do it.
If you want it for catching up (raising ilvl) it's not worth it. There are other ways that will take less time investment, like zurvan ex or scrip gears. But if you have nothing to spend your resources (lore, poetics, gc seal, hunt seal etc.) then you can slowly make the anima over a few weeks/months, for glamour.
If you want it it is worth it. Plain and simple
If you have nothing better else to do in the game... Knock yourself out.
You cant skip the step - you have to meld 75 materias into your weapon, by picking up to 5 different stats. Since its unlikely that you'll ever use the weapon in content that really matters I would just stuff cheap one into it (I actually did that on my scholar-book - finally a use for parry-materia, wohoo!).
The follow up step will be light-farming however - and while you can do that in any ARR-duty, even unsyched, picking more useful stats to combine lightfarm and potential lowlevel and level 50 roulettes could be worth it, too.
Thanks to all who responded. I thought you could because I accidentally clicked on the NPC to continue and it almost looked like he was going to accept it as is with no melds. He said something like if I was sure I wanted to continue or something like that. Looks like it's melding time.
Do you want that sweet ass glamour? if yes, then do it
if no, then don't.
if WAR, weep at the visual state of your complete Anima.
Nobody does relic grinds for anything but glamour purposes in the end, this is a truth.
Well, the same could be said for all of our gear. It is, in the end, fleeting and ephemeral.
Can't skip, but stat's won't matter at all, I meld whatever is cheap in the market, even parry on healers, you won't actually use the weapon (and can even trade it in for skipping the first step of anima, while unlocking a vendor that has a replica of all zodiac stages) so buy whatever materia to fill the 75 stats.
I mean if you hate yourself enough to do 250 ifrit nm runs yeah that is the fastest way to do it, but if you don't want to lose your sanity, 42 tam tara nm runs (21 if bonus) @ 3 mins per run is not bad at all, and can switch with sastasha if sastasha is bonus.
Look up the final design for the weapon. Like how it looks? Get it. Don't? Don't get it.
It's really just glamour unless you're planning on taking the weapon to speedruns.
Fffff, wish I had known about that step before I dumped all my tier 1 materia into combining cuz it all felt like garbage anyway...
Do the stats normalize again at some point after that, or are you stuck with whatever you dump into the weapon for some time? Ignoring the part where the weapon might be useless regardless or I might have something better by the time I get to that or whatever. I don't exactly play ideally/optimally anyway, might enjoy my time at least trying to make it decent. Although the massive time/resource dumps make it sound like I don't want to do this for every job asap...
i didnt say anything about BiS, but atm is relic one of the best BiS filler since you can set the stats how you like and to your needs and it has slightly more off stats are savage version.
Diadem weapon are for sure better, but to obtain it is bound to a lot of RNG luck, for the right class and with some good stats.

The stats stay like that until you choose to change them around (you can do that at any point, I believe - but you will need new materia and alexandrites for that) - the whole point of the relic was that you get to choose your own stats, so "normal" stats for a relic dont exists.
The old ARR-relics are really "useless" as weapons though by now - a fully upgraded Zeta might last you til you reach The Vault, but they're mostly worth it for glamour. As soon as you get your Zeta-weapon you can buy replicas from Drake without stats at all, but well, with the look ofc.
On how to farm light... sure, Sastasha, TamTara and Ifrit are doing the trick, but my point was more: If you are already doing the level 50 or low level roulette anyways, you might aswell take your relic-weapon with you to get some extra-light.
Really depends on how one plays the game, no? I've been getting through ARR content for over a year now, vaguely on approach to HW, but I could still content myself with plenty to do before then. So, for me, the relics might be a nice little thing to mess around with. Maybe not for every job, though... that does sound a bit too tedious.
