The Feast party formation should be based on rating AND job type, not just rating

Day two of playing as ranged DPS I was promoted to Silver with a rating of 586 (60% win rate). 50 matches on, my rating is now 474 (36% win rate). Where I'm Silver and the majority of Silver+ players appear to be healers, I'm almost always placed against a Silver healer, who can out-heal the unrated healer on my team.

In this match our team's unrated healer was 38% as effective as the opposing team's Silver-rated healer - for every 10,000 HP the opposing healer recovered, ours recovered 3,800.

I propose:

1. Rating and job type should determine who you are placed against.
2. A given job type should only ever be placed against the same job type plus or minus one rating level.

If I'm a Silver-rated ranged DPS I should only ever be placed in a party against Bronze, Silver or Gold Ranged DPS. If I'm a Bronze-rated Tank, I should only ever be placed in a party against an unrated, Bronze or Silver Tank.

I had the same problems the past 2 Days. i reached gold very quickly but then i got the lowest rated Healers and DPS to even out my high rating wich lead to a lot of losses.

Sch is also consider different on how it heals. Not to mention your healer die twice.

That shouldn't matter. Dying puts you out of action for about 15 seconds BUT it also fully recovers your MP. This is also only one example of an awful lot of occurrences of this happening - and it happens with AST and WHM as well.

Yes Scholar Shields dont get counted on the overall Healing he did so it always looks he healed less then others.

My wild guess is that this matchmaking exists this way because the que times would be much longer as they are now.

Feast queue times are < 10 minutes right now, and have been ever since the Garo update. Back in S1 and S2 you could easily wait 1 hour for a single match. I'd much rather wait 30+ minutes for a balanced match and be satisfied that our team lost because the other team outsmarted us, rather than be salty that our team lost because the games are balanced the way they are.

season 2 feast had some aweful matchmaking as you can get unranked even as a platinum or gold ranking player.

it also depends on who's in the pool of players currently queuing. there may be no other equivalent ranked ppl available.

The fact that it's rated means that this would be a better option anyway. As I said before I'd much rather queue for 30+ minutes and have an enjoyable match. Plus evening everything out would attract people to play more DPS characters, so I think it'd even itself out anyway.

I'm levelling my summoner atm, think I made enough silvers/bronzes suffer playing DRK.

Yes at the moment the times are that way. But what if the people have the stuff they want? The times will go up again and 30 minutes would be a fast que, with a proper matchmaking it could also easy be 1 hour or more. You may be ok with that but i can tell you that many people are not and if they stop queing your que times will go up again.

I understand that people, no matter what rank, want to have fair matches but i'm pretty certain that the real pvp community is way to small for that.

Well, they have their reason to do their matchmaking. The major problem is that the player base which do pvp is too small so you will have problem no matter what. The thing which is really bothering me, is that you are so much punished by not being healer. (Don't get me wrong, the burden on healer is high enough to be rewarded but still, other class are a bit too much punished I think.) Your queue time is way longer, so you need to spend 2-3 times more time for the same result as an healer. This is fine, tho it show how flawed the system is, they really need to find a counterweight to that in SB or it will be the same all over again. However, depending when you play in the season, then you cannot even queue at all as certain job (tried to do a bit of feast mid-s3,was unranked, range, the df just lie all the time with <5, 5, 7, 10, 15,20,>30min, then 40 min in the queue and still nothing.)

The real problem I have is that kind of unfair matchmaking, when you have absolutly 0 chance to win because your healer but you still lose the same amount of point, and as you said, the more you progress (or if you play out of peak time), the higher the chance that you will get a completly clueless healer which will make all the game and the queue a total waste, then the game make you lose the same ammount of point that if it was a fair match. (For exemple as silver, while I was writting that, I lost 3 games in a row, 31 points, one hour (not counting what is needed to recover the point bleed) because the system though it was fair to put completly clueless, useless people in my team (on time, healer, 2 times a melee both could have not being here, it would have being the same).

At least, reduce the point lose if you have this kind of situation (the system makes me lose 11 points even with the healer, it though that i was at my advantage with this newbie healer, like really?), because it is just infuriating. I know that people will say that it's already easy enough to gain point this day and that every idiots and their mother can rank diamound if they spam enough... well exactly, it doesn't matter anymore, so at least make that people are less pissed (for reason) with this useless ranking system.

A Tank in full Makai gear who collected the Defence Kit, a Scholar in full Makai gear who was awarded the Participate in your first match in The Feast achievement and a Ninja with a mixture of Diadem gear... I can't work out why we didn't win this one:

I lost 8 points whilst these guys collectively lost nothing.

I don't even understand why things are tied to the group's outcome and not our own ability. I mean, obviously the ranking is tied to whether you (as a group) won or lost -- and the damage dealt/healed is there for everyone to see. It just seems so skewed against higher ranked players right from the start - and I get the idea of risk versus reward but tying the outcome to everyone's performance is crazy.

Could you imagine if that happened in raids? Sorry, you don't get your Alexandrian suit of armor because your bard only did X dps.

i think like you, a gold heal should not fight a bronze heal for exemple. but it happen.
But like said before sch shield is not take in the final result.
If you see whm result to be 2 times the sch result in a match, it's normal.
But there also a issue you may watch as bard with the Sch.
If the Sch spam a lot Aldo shield , the mana will drop fast.
I suggest you to expect this, you may use your pvp regen mana skill sooner in this case.
