Hey there.
Im new to FF14 and a thing whats most disturbing me is the slow fights.
Lets see at a usual Quest:
(all actions are what ive learned from tutorial and what ive found out myself)
I login in Uldah cause all other cities kinda suck atm.
I crawl to the guy giving me the same 5 quests since 2 levels.
1. click - 2. click - 3. click 4...whatever i got my quests.
Now i port to a camp just looking like all the others ive been to so far.
I talk to a big glowing stone (yeah...) and he allows me to begin the first quest.
click click click ok time to go!
now i walk to the mobs.
still walking...
i think i can see them! aww...nope...
Ok now im at the mob.
Click on mob...CLICK AGAIN...F...1... ... ...5... ... ... ...mob dead yay! oh theres a second!
click on mob (as an alternative option you can press enter...) hmm...heal...click on me. *ZAM BANG UFF* Mob dead!!!!111 Oh no hes running away!
Running. Running and MORE running.
3 more mobs spawn *click click click* (myself in target cause i cant move the camera UP?!) *click click click* yadayadayada
I hope u can see my point.
the combat feels so damn slow. and its so much clicking involved :(
And with the lag its even getting more decallerated.
Please make the combat a bit more dynamic and fast. So that i dont fall asleep while "questing" :D
Please bring more action in combat :(

Btw, there are real quests in this game too, so don't treat those sad exuses called leves as quests >.>
Combat in low lvl does not take a lot of clicking at all, if you need to repeatedly click on targets, you do something wrong.
What it does take though is patience.
Having only few skills makes the fights long and boring..I agree that low lvl fights should have more options on what to do.
But complaining about having to run around in a MMORPG..that's not making any sense. -

and when i get in grp its almost everytime just to PL. and thats to boring for me.
its not the usual running. but its not the point either.

I play on Lindblum too and train classes in your lvl range, and it's very rare for me to find a party which turns out to be a PL party instead of a normal grind party.
Like in..once every two weeks.
Maybe you just got really unlucky when searching for a party:)
Fights will always feel "kind of" slow (not in a party though..?) because FFXIV fights are not about "I can mindlessly click my opponent to death in less than two seconds!!1!" but about strategy: using the right skills at the right time, placing yourself at the right place, evading attacks, hitting for more dmg from the rear, etc.
That's going to be the case even more when we get player combos soon.
Get used to it. Not every fighting system is about speed. -

Put haymaker on your melee and you'll be watching the screen for misses.
Then things no longer feel as slow. -

the zones all. do look the same. the entire world is being remade with theme specific smaller zones then a large copy and paste open world. action paced combat will be coming in 2 weeks with 1.20"self combos" combos hat can be done without a party. and if your walking hit x or c if forget which one since i never walk.

You don't have to click on mobs at all. In fact, just let go of the mouse entirely and your life will become much easier. Target with TAB and F9 and use hotkeys to access abilities. You don't have to separately initiate combat, just use a hostile ability and it'll start auto-attacking whatever you've targeted.
If you only have one class at 22, you might not have that many useful abilities. At some point, however, you'll be almost constantly using something or you're doing it wrong. -

Late to the thread, but I just wanted to say: Auto-attack was implemented and direct action-stamina based combat was removed.
Good luck getting 'action' back when the dev team is focusing on creating FFXI-2 instead of FFXIV like the original team. Reactive skills are about as close to 'action' as we're going to get now. -

OP this isn't WoW.
As the post above said using a mouse to play this game in its current state will make the experience twice as bad and cumbersome than it needs to be.
Hopefully when the Mouse/keyboard changes come in it will play more like a regular style MMO. -

Manual input is valuable only when some thought is put into it, but in the old system you'd always keep pressing 1 regardless of situation, so it was just a pointless chore. Otherwise the game plays very similarly, only you're more limited by cooldowns than stamina, which smoothes out your ability to frontload a lot of abilities early in a fight.Quote:

I got my husband to log on with me tonight to unlock achievement categories. This is the first time he has participated in combat since the implementation of auto-attack (since we had to run through Coerthas to the Owl's Nest and kill a few enemies).

The only ones he could use off the bat were buffs. He said before the battle system was actually fun. He went on to say that if the game had been released this way, he would have put it down after five minutes and never played it again.
Neither one of us is against auto-attack. Far from it. I hated that melee just spammed the 1 key all day. And I hated before that, as a CNJ, I was expected to spirit dart like a melee. I've actually been happy with the caster changes. I think casters were fixed. But the melee... well, lots of other games have auto-attack and still give you plenty of other active abilities to jump into combat with right off the bat. Making everything dependent upon TP use makes for a waiting game. :/
Why are there not at least a couple smaller melee abilities that can be used while you're building TP? I'm not asking for mindless button mashing, but to stand there and do nothing is boring. Casters don't wait on TP abilities, we can actively participate right off the bat. Like the OP has stated, melee have no feeling of action in combat. -

Replying to you Rowe. It only takes me two auto attack hits to get enough TP to use fullthrust or my other ws to start my combo (about 500 tp per hit). Also when you get higher level those first few cheap weaponskills will unlock a chain of higher combos if you meet the conditions. And when you use the following ws in a combo it won't require tp at all. Getting free weaponskills all the time :)

I still think the battle system changes could use some tweaks. Standing around at the beginning of combat doing nothing but waiting, even if it's only through a couple auto-attacks, isn't ideal, IMO. -

Ever since the change I've been frustrated with the game. Combat is not fun in the new patch. Neither is the massive delays caused by latency, which has been there since release (which made the action based combat frustrating then too! Thanks for no regional servers!).
I've wanted to love FFXIV from the start, but after the massive letdown release was for people it seems they did the only thing they knew how to: Create a game nearly identical to the only one they've done before; FFXI. I don't see the original FFXIV as a 'risk', I see it as something that needed to be heavily refined and polished, not completely abolished; but it looks like they saw it as one, and here we are today.
Again, I'm severely disappointed with the changes to FFXIV. No amount of explaining will change anything, yet here I am continuing to type out my disappointment in hopes something does change.
I don't expect much from 2.0. -

Just about every "original" design decision was absolutely horrible with seemingly no thought put into what they actually mean for the people playing the game. The cumbersome market wards, the random exp that incentivized dragging out fights, the stamina system that let you frontload all your power to the beginning of combat, the excessive amount of different items and quality levels, etc. The list goes on and on. Everything was just fundamentally broken on a design level, so even if the technical aspects didn't suck ass (lag, bad UI, lag, lacking server features, lag, and did I already mention lag?), the game was just poorly designed.Quote:
