Summoner Pets: Quick Fix - Client Sided Summons!

Why Can't we just be able to summon decent sized summons and obtain their traditional look similar to FFXI but make them be able to be client sided if the PS4 is a issue? I understand that people with not strong computers or laptops can also have this issue, so why not have a mode to be able to switch back and forth?

Be able to have a Egi option for performance mode for people who don't have that strong of a PC to be able to play as normal, and for people who prefer higher settings have the big grand summon that they've always wanted? And according to some friends who are also game and graphic designers and code programmers, they said that it really wouldn't be that hard to change a few lines of code to be able to add this feature. I'm pretty sure we don't need to see every ones summon, so why not make them client sided?

And during dungeons if you wish to see their summons you can enable them via settings on your game! That way people can be able to finally have the big size summons they want without breaking their game if they cant handle it and finally actually feel like a Summoner?

PS4 isn't what's holding the game back at all, once the PS3 is dumped 32-bit pcs are going to be our weakest link.

The size the summon appears on your screen is already client side. All the server is doing is keeping track of its position, actions, and such. If the game is moddable at all, this is probably easy to do.

But more importantly, summons have an in-game, lore reason for being what they are. Whether that was done for technical reasons at first or not, it wouldn't make sense to change it now. Local mods are probably the best solution for people who want larger summons, but I wouldn't expect them to change the game itself.

Sorry I didnt mean the PS4 as the main problem I was gonna say PS3 but thats going to be thrown out soon so and most people who I've talked to about this just bring up PS4 instead :/

[Yeah current Lore pushes as them being Egi because of our Aether and if they grew bigger it would potentially be harmful to us, but as the WOL we should have an insane amount of Aether to support a summon IE: Ysayle as the Prime Example of WOL's potential. She was able to harness and actually TRANSFORM into a summon, and she herself was also a WOL

So that in itself really can't be an excuse anymore lore wise. Also my spoiler brackets are not working for me >_<

Ty so much for supporting the idea! I really think the class itself needs some more flair as a long classic class that has been around since older games, I feel like it deserves better summons! I really wanna be able to have it so everyone can enjoy this and for people who can eventually upgrade can also have that feel if they cant run it. I hope if not now, when SMN gets reworked during a Expansion they can have this as a option.

Wait. What? You're giving a suggestion, even though you know your information is wrong? And your so called 'graphic design' friends are wrong. Not only would SE have to build 5 new skills for the expansion, but then re-do the current skills for the new Primal summons. Build a new Garuda with all her skill set, Ifrit, Titan. And every time they add a new glamour they would have to build both an Egi and Primal. THEN add in a completely new setting...

This isn't a 'few lines of code' At all.

Ok here's the real reason why... The Summoner quest explains it, in a contextual fashion as you get to the upper levels of the quest.

You are NOT actually Summoning Shiva, Titan, Garuda... they are actually just an extension of your own power...

You fail in the quest to Summon a Shiva-Egi is explained in the quest at upper levels.... the reason you fail when you try... is that it turns out these are not really the Primals at all.. They're just an extension of your own Aether, its why they come out the way they do...

After that failure... Y'Mitra comes up with another idea... to link you in with the Primal's force and use the actual power of the primal Baphamet to increase your own power...

This results in... The Dreadwyrm Trance...

...and channeling the power of the Primal to enhance and greatly empower your spells and grant other abilities that are not available normally...

Namely... the Deathflare... of the Primal of the great supreme dragon.

Hence... when this Summoner truly becomes like the FF Summoner.

Yes and no, I agree just changing it suddenly would be bad but I dislike hearing this reasoning for future thought changes, as we have a lot of wiggle room given character development - like as the level cap increases. Or through quests. Just don't change it in a patch, as that'd be awkward (and retcon). "Everyone, Egi are now 1000% and no NPC is going to act like its news".

Our reason is that A. its dangerous to summon the full deal and B. we're skimming and not strong / knowledgeable enough to be better (we have a summoner who got bumrushed with too much knowledge too quickly, but I imagine you could easily lore in power efficiency/skill technique over levels rather than all at once as being "safe"/"acceptable").

Obviously A. can never happen without some serious changes to lore, most of which would be retcon. HOWEVER, B. is not forbidden AND the image of the Egi is now written into lore as just an image. What I mean by this is that you can make a green carbuncle shoot out stone or fire projectiles. What this means is the aether image is not 100% pertinent to the actual power of the Egi, the image's power is not related to the power of the actual pet and therefore you could logically and pointlessly suggest "Godzilla, that punches like a small squirrel". Shouldn't make summons their full size because it would be come a burden to party visuals, but you could easily make them a bit bigger/primal like without significant issue.

Therefore within the lore we already have, without retcon, we could exaggerate our aether image and not actually be breaking A. You could "look" like you're summoning something far greater than you actually are, and of course the fact at level cap increases you could add to that wiggle room and just make things more powerful.

Although I'd prefer to just see tiers and gain stronger looking Egi (like Spiritmaster in Aion or Warlock in WoW), but I think everyone has their own preference on summoner at this point.

Anyway, the tl;dr is the image is no longer significantly restricted within our own current lore AND there is wiggle room to expand our actual power within lore as well - so being /stuck/ with our current images is unnecessary as dictated by lore and increasing our Egi resemblance to primals is also not dictated by lore. Just don't kill the planet, don't summon the full "actual" thing, that's it.

Do we really need another thread about this. There's a old thread compering the summons from FFXI to FF14 and what not. Even with diagrams.

A lot of what you're saying is old lore. We've long since learned that there is no "real thing." What we're doing is the same thing as a full blown primal summoning. We're just doing it to a scale that feeds off of our aether rather than the land around us.

Now that we got over this limitation by channeling Bahamut's aether, I trust there's nothing stopping us from summoning other things or making ours better?

Also the egi glamour quest says that all we had to do was imagine Carbuncle while summoning Ifrit. Doesn't that means that we already have the potential of summoning the image of the real primals?

Here's hoping that summoners gets some love in Stormblood. It's the only thing that still bugs me, I really enjoy the job but it lacks that cool factor.

Well I wouldn't mind if they evolved and change in appearance because your power as a summoner grew making them take a different shape perhap nothing overly huge though >.>

Huh lol - I missed the part where it's the same thing as summoning the primal, but then that means its even less a reason why we can't empower our image (besides development costs lol). If you get stronger, as everyone will and does, then you can maintain greater Egi from your own aether (even if only temporary).

That was just my point, with the glamour system we have literal proof that the image != the power therefore doing the FFXI "not full power but similar looking" interpretation is 100% within the bounds of FFXIV's current lore (just make sure the change is added within a story so the move forward isn't entirely amiss as a complete reverse change to image). So there is NO lore that blocks the summoners from getting vastly larger summons.

However too large is bad for vision / group play, but we are no where near "too large". And some of that size can be managed through new mechanics/temporary settings. I'm still in awe when I see the larger Warlock summons in WoW, or a bestial wrath pet - never been in awe with the Egi. Although the Bahamut flare is pretty cool, and pretty in line with stupid epic FF SMN visuals so I actually thought when they added that they were actually trying to listen to player feedback. I mean.. Egi still look entirely out of place and bad overall compared to other MMOs and FF's self, but the flare was a great addition imo.
