Switch Limitations
I believe it was some sort of lore reason? Which is just silly because eyebrows are so very important... And also Female Highlanders have eyebrows so i'm not really sure what's the deal now.
Male highlanders shave them IIRC. It's a cultural thing.
They don't have eyebrows because the messed up while evening them out and went "screw it".
Psychological warfare and tradition.

Theres a possible fix available though.
Just check the face paint option in the character creation...theres one option that looks like a pair of thick eye brows. you just add that and then pick
a somewhat dark color for it. and there you have it: Eyebrows.
frankly speaking, its not the most satisfying fix as it means sacrificing a possible face paint option in favor of eyebrows, but still better than nothing
[edit]:
took a small screenshot of my own highlander creation i made for fun
(and im fangirling hard over him...<3)
But yeah you can see the eyebrow fix there

Highlander males remind me of the Terminator.
There is a lore reason for it as someone mentioned.
I think it was for intimidation of enemies?
You get used to it. xP
I would be happy if they give them the option in the aesthetician and CC to toggle the eyebrows on/off much like the male Au Ra can do.
While we can use face paint to have fake eyebrows, the color palette is very very limited and makes it difficult to find the right shade to match hair color.
Since we're not going to have more facial customization options, I'd be happy to have different fake eyebrow options. The one we have right now is too thick.
To be honest, i feel like a Highlander with eyebrows would look wrong.
Just like a Miqo'te without a tail.
The lore reason is rather poor, tradition is something not followed by everyone.
The Miqo'te without tail is a bad analogy because Highlanders are born with eyebrows.
Your own analogy is flying all over your head.
Highlanders are born with eyebrows but are removed from the character creation because traditionally they shave them, character creation restriction based on tradition are weird because your character is already an oddball that follows his own path, and many Highlander player would like to throw away that tradition, but they can't because of the character creation limitation.
Miqo'tes are born with tail, there's no tradition involved here, they are not removed from the character creation screen either.
Or it could not, the point is that forcing a lore tradition on the character screen is weird. Imagine if they limited the number of male seekers of the sun that can exist in the server because traditionally there aren't many of them, or the whole clan restrictions going on with seekers.
The 'lore' reason is pretty silly. Not every Highlander is from Ala Mhigo or even cares for the place to begin with. Furthermore, why would only the men do it and not the women? It's just a flimsy excuse for an archaic and bizarre design limitation. It's a great reason for pushing for additional customisation options in the future.
At least they added a 'face paint' eyebrow option. That's something, at least...but we still need a permanent fix. Preferably sooner rather than later.
Heavily disagree with this. Races/Subraces and the lore between all of it is some of the most exciting reasons to pick one thing over another. Traditionally Roe's are big, I'm sure a Roe with dwarfism would exist at some point during their existence even if we've never seen one but that doesn't necessarily mean that fringe examples should be readily available because then it directly pulls away from the lore. I honestly see zero issue with racial traditions being kept. Some restrictions exist beyond trying to piss people off.
Remember that Eorzea is a heavily racist place. Conforming within traditions is hardly far fetched.
While I can be wrong, I don't think Highlanders shaving their eyebrows is mentioned in the lorebook or any other source outside of what one of Koji fox said years ago.

Why is it that Highlanders don't have filed teeth? Actually, I'd love for highlanders to have filed teeth but I doubt that'll ever happen.
If you can play a Highlander with Eyebrows, then i can play a Miqo'te without tail!! Stop trying to oppress me!!
And if you think we have the budget to actually make Highlander Eyebrows, then you must be new around here! :')
We probably don't even have the budget to cut off Miqo'te tails!!
They could be like bobtail kitties

It could be neat if we got like a Japanese Bobtail type of Miqo'te that had longer fur over their whole body and spots

You are confusing tradition with body changes, a roe cannot choose whether he is born short or tall, but a highlander is born with eyebrows and he chooses to shave them. Note that not all highlanders are born in Gyr Abania so those traditions make no sense.
And for the other guy who still keeps intentionally missing the point, cutting off a cat's tail is pretty much the same as cutting off a leg, that's not comparable to shaving your eyebrows.
It was merely meant to represent fringe outliers not being sufficient to add them to the character creation screen as to pull away from lore. Not necessarily for a 1:1 comparison. I didn't use tradition as an example because you already exclaimed your reasoning behind not believing tradition as being a blockage in character creation, which boiled down to "Tradition shouldn't be used in character creation", which is tough to argue with that seeing as it's not exactly tangible and purely opinion on both our parts.
Watching the ankle biter defend my right to stop shaving has made me reconsider my nickname, what honor they may have <3 ~ :D lol.
(PS lalafells are really cute, I say it with love)
I would really like to stop being forced to shave my eyebrows every four hours, unless SE is going to say our characters are not really ours but more like a Geralt or a Ciri (a character we watch, but are not "them", its not "our story") then I'm going to take it as a ElderScrolls sort of approach and I do not like that the only thing keeping me from stop shaving is some lore in an area I've never visited as far as I know. They messed up by giving the female's eyebrows imo, at least then they could say its biological ("they don't have them, at all") and it'd be much harder to argue against but it's just a traditional element. Personally a traditional argument is an incredibly flimsy one for many reasons (some personal to me, others to the game itself - like not being raised in an environment that even recognizes that tradition, adopted by Roegadyns for example).
The male cat example struck me as a good one where SE just sort of blew it out of the water too, similar with Au Ra - never heard of, or massively rare, and all a sudden EVERYWHERE (as PCs, but still few NPC). If we go by lore there should be much less of those two races, but it's actually one of the major populations now so unless the lore is they breed like a parasite.. but adding a limitation on players because of that lore would be very meh. Forcing males to shave their eyebrows that they DO have, because of a traditional battle ritual that magically every male in the land must adhere to.. super... "really?"... lol. I figure its actually that they're hiding behind that reason because of character data, trying to not add new options to races.
Although important to cultural history so I appreciate there is lore that exists for it but if all the other Hyur Highlanders that want to try and challenge the Warrior of Light to a duel over not shaving eyebrows.. be my guest.
As far as my character is concerned he was raised by Chocobos, okay? lol, Smelly and furry - now stop disappointing my parents by making me shave!!! :P
O.o I never noticed that when I picked my character lol. Interesting point, a tidbit I didn't realize about highlander though. Not sure I want pointy teeth but can I trade them for more body hair (better beards and eyebrows)? I'll give you 32 filed teeth for the deal~! (But I get to use magic to get unfiled teeth back, no going toothless lol).
(((2020!!!!))) LOL
The lore/cultural thing people say.. It doesn't really work. It is implied that this practice of shaving eyebrows, and filing teeth to be sharp, are practices that are old- and not something all male highlanders do anymore. I could see male Highlanders doing that maybe in the old ancient parts of their homeland, if they want to keep that going.. But Highlander males living in Limsa, Gridania, Uldah? Probably not, highly probably not. Also the promotional artwork for the Valentione's day 2020, has a male Highlander with eyebrows lol.
I can believe the limitation excuse somewhat, but now they no longer use PS3, and will probably in another 2-3 years transition to PS5.. Give the male Highlanders eyebrows, and not goofy ridiculous ones lol. They really need to add more options in character creation period. I don't honestly care to see a new race, just more options, one of them being eyebrows for male Highlanders.
Arise thread Arise mwhahahaha
Honestly they should allow highlanders to have eyebrows again though whether they do it through CC or via tattoos, I'd prefer former as more options but latter is definitely lazier.
