Suggestions: Housing wait list

Returned player here! I hadn't managed to get housing since I first played but it seems like the situation is still the same, even with the new apartments. It would be nice to have some sort of waiting list to give people at least some form of a chance to buy a place because I do feel like I'm missing out a bit.

Currently, the most viable way right now is to pay people to relinquish their houses and hope that no one else takes the plot before you do. Kinda risky and also requires quite a bit of gil and trust.

EDIT: Yes, obviously having more houses fixes the problem, but if the housing situation isn't going to change much, I'd rather have a waiting list than nothing at all.

I for 1 am sick of this housing situation as well my husband & I left the game as well expecting it to be better when we came back & nope. It baffles me how a company that has billions of yen in revenue for entertainment has this kind of housing problems. No other mmo I've seen has these issues. After missing a house after months of searching several times daily, all wards, spending Gil to travel to each of these places over a dang aetherite shard because square doesn't tell you anything you need to know about housing. Devs no longer responding to support tickets for any issue much less in a timely fashion, I had to spend 1 mil for my husband & I to get an apartment that we honestly just settled on because we don't want to be apart of that rat race any longer. That we can't invite just friends into, gotta have the door open to public to allow anyone in, can't use their hired people when visiting, etc. I do feel as though you should elaborate more though. Housing wait list sounds good to me but on what terms? Whoever signs up for 1 in order? Since it's 'supposedly' an end gamers privilege: based off how long you've been subbed? New housing is coming but what's the likelihood of landing one ya know?

Waiting lists wouldn't fix the housing issue. In fact they would make it worse because you would have to be lucky enough for a plot to become free, have the money AND be first in the waiting list. Never mind how long that list would be. You could be on it for YEARS before you're first in line. At least now if you have the cash and you're the first to spot a free plot, you can go get it.

SE either need to add at least ten times the amount of wards there are now or do a complete overhaul of the housing system. The amount of plots available per player on even the least populated servers is appalling.

Let me guess, you or your fc has housing right? Perhaps if you don't like this suggestion you come up with real solutions to all the housing problems. No I don't think this idea wouldn't fix the entire problem but it's a start. Which is why I asked under what terms. Also if I remember correctly that is yoshi said some time ago houses were meant for end gamers not everyone but yet I see people with green leafs by their name with housing & I see end gamers with no housing. Its no wonder nothing has been fixed with housing when everyone in these forums just disagree's with each other & nothing gets resolved, smh.

There have been plenty of suggestions across multiple threads in this forum. No need to get hostile over it. I can see where the suggestion comes from, however I can also see some problems with it. How long when a house becomes available does the list wait for the person who's at the top to claim it? Does the list account for choice of location, size, preferred plot? How does the upcoming move function interact with the list? The list seems fair, but anyone that doesn't get on it the first day likely will never have a chance at seeing a house. Imagine being 12,384 in line and after months of waiting check to see you're 12205 in line, that's discouraging.

The reason for this is inflation. They never adjusted the housing prices after introducing housing to the game but since then gil has lost more and more value. My FC bought a middle-sized house about three months after they release housing. We had pretty much free choice of ward and plot (and actually ruled three wards out because they were empty and we wanted neighbours). Me and my friend spend those three months crafting 3-4 hours each day. When an item sold for more than 40k it was amazing. Today I wouldnt even put up something for that price because its not worth it.
The game added more and more means for people to earn gil, even without endgame-crafting, that its really no surprise that someone with a leaf has the 3-4 million to buy a small house. That someone with a leaf was able to get a house but someone whos at endgame did not most likely shows were the dedication of those two people are...

If you're asking me: They need to adjust the prices of the houses to reflect the current value of gil in the game - 20 million for a small house would make it more endgame again. But I guess a lot of people would be upset about that too...

Everyone I know who has a house, fc or personal, has it because there was no waiting list. They had the cash, were at the right place right time, and got the plot. It's a horrible system and I utterly despise it. OP's suggestion just adds another layer of unfairness to it. I don't disagree with it because I have a house, I disagree with it because it's an awful suggestion. It does nothing to fix the actual issue: there aren't enough houses.

Also maybe you should read my entire post because I did suggest something, although not in detail.

I have been playing about 11 months. About 6 months ago, I was able to buy a small house for 5 mil. Then I recently demolished it and bought a medium after about a month of constantly keeping watch on the plots. I am not on a huge server so I imagine that helps. I suggest perhaps changing to a smaller server if you are into housing. Unfortunately, this cheesy game doesn't allow you to take your house with you upon moving. First MMO I have played that is a bad.

RuneScape has been around since 2001 and they have enough houses for every player, and their just a tiny company why cant square put enough houses for all players

You're right that we don't have enough housing. However, some of us can't be on 24/7 to check for a house to pop up. When I'm on, I check every hour that I can to find something, but no such luck. So what chance do I have of getting a house without a waiting list and no new houses any time soon? Of course, if SE decide to make a lot more houses, this won't be needed, but I'd rather have this than nothing.

My issue with a wait list system is that it still screws over new players from getting housing. They need to fix housing, for sure, but this would only make the problem worse by ensuring only older players would get houses while newcomers would have to accept they would be so far down the list that it would be impossible to ever get land. They need to make more wards and plots, that is the only way this will work. Hopefully, with the new servers they are promising for North America and the infrastructure that will bring, we will see the addition of more housing wards to meet the player demand.

I'm hoping shared tenancy for apartments will be a thing, I've already upvoted one of the threads suggesting it. As to elaborating, I hadn't really thought too much about it. Literally was only kind of just an idea to chuck out there in case anyone actually thought it would be useful. Possibly put the longest subscribers who've never owned a house at higher priority?

The ones who have been on longer most likely have been trying longer to find a place. I'd expect the list can only be used by players who haven't owned a house, maybe not for all wards. And obviously, if SE made enough houses then list isn't needed. However, if it's still not going to be anywhere near enough houses, I'd rather this than nothing.

Your own suggestion would screw you over. Waiting lists are almost always based on first come first served, and you only get bumped up for something like health reasons or if you since had a child. Obviously those reasons would not apply to the game at all so most likely you would only get bumped up if someone gives up their spot. You have just said you cannot play 24/7 so chances are you will be unable to log in early on the day waiting lists are introduced.

No we need a complete overhaul or a significantly immense addition of wards. Not something else on top of an already broken system.

A waiting list just make a bad system even worse, as one person already explained.

Here are a couple of suggestions;

First option; Depending on the server I've seen some people sell their house, while your afk , leave a party finder format with what your looking for. In the last week 3 of my friends found a house. Apparently some people don't see the benefit if they have no airship facility and are trying to save money for t he new housing district to be released later on.


Second option would be to do what most, if not what everyone who has a house has done, and as soon as the new area is release head there and camp it out.

Third option Ask people or send them a tell to see if they might be interesting in selling it. What's the worst that can happen? Say No?

Now IF your complaining about;

I work = request the day off / call in sick

Too expensive = Start saving

Poor connection = cyber cafe or star bucks

Server congestion = Happens every time just have to hope for the best

Keeps freezing while doing update = try to log in before maintenance it's done.

I'm special and I've been waiting for a long time = No your not everyone pays, people are being nice by saying that.

It's a hit a miss I run an FC and have been able to help people get them so I know it works. It's just a matter of patience and luck.

While the suggestions are fine, the end truth is: housing system here is the worst I have seen and I have played several MMOs with it. I suggest if you are unable to camp sites, quit and find another game until they fix/overhaul the system. The only way to make them fix is lost subs. Every player with the gil deserves to have 1 house, it's ludicrous. I camped for my small then prayed while I was demolishing that the medium I wanted would still be there when done...bad system is bad.

This isn't like other MMO's. They gave options for apartments, and such. Also take into consideration player base keeps growing there is no way for SE to have a special house reserve for each individual player.Too much of a time waster of funds and manpower when they can limit and focus more on player complains that make sense like such as adjustments, upcoming content, and such. If people are to concern about a place to belong they can get a room in their FC housing for 200k. If they want to decorate they can try for apartments, more reasonable they would expand that which is more like other MMO's.... Or they can do what most people did and currently do, see my suggestions. It's not a bad system, its very fair. People just don't want to put in the effort, research, explore their option, or want to be patient. First come , First serve seems fair.Should we also give everyone a trophy for trying a sport just because they play it? Oh wait people already do that because they feel bad for the kids. Should we give everyone a trophy for participating in The Feast? even if they only maybe tried once? Your suggestion is pretty good. revenue drives ideas and sets how much of a priority it will be. If people abandon the property and you feel screwed how is it SE fault? Bad timing. If you think about it why do players want a house? to form an FC? Extra space and decoration? Why not just ask FC for rights or give ideas for new look? They can decorate their room. They can get an apartment if any. If they want to decorate why not play The Sims then? Point is there are a lot of options to get what people want. Gill is easy to make. I constantly have people asking me to sell my property, just because they want FC benefits. If you have a FC, you can buy a second property as personal and so forth. Depends on what your doing. Just like in real life if you buy a house and the neighbors sell it after you move in, who are you going to blame? Personally I would blame myself for not taking more time to do my homework. On that note I'm preparing already, saving my gill, taking time off as soon as I know date for housing.

If person going to want to quit over housing then yea maybe they should be playing a different game. Yea housing a broken system but it a very small portion of the game.
