Purposely DCing should be reportable

Ok, I can understand people dcing because of poor connection issues, or the server is just flat out being a butt (Like they have been these past few months.) But when a person blatantly says in chat that they're disconnecting just to avoid the penalty, I feel that's abuse of the system. I mean, sure we may not like the dungeon we were rolled, but to purposely disconnect in the middle of a mob because of that? Come on...

Now I did ask around in game to see if it actually was reportable, but apparently the admins turn a blind eye to it. If that isn't the case, and actually -is- reportable, then please disregard this thread.

In cases where they say in chat that's what they are doing I would say go ahead and send a report in. Just don't expect results. Or to hear about them at least. As far as people disconnecting in general , without explicit proof in chat, they won't ever take action against it. This is to protect the people who legitimately dc and frankly, I think it should remain this way.

There was one time in the Sunken Temple of Quarn where the final boss door did not open for me, but was open for the other 3. I had to DC and relog, to fix the problem. So I personally think that allowing this for such occasions is better than the alternative. (After coming back we did beat the boss ez as pie :D)

I know it's frustrating when it happens (especially mid to late through a dungeon), but I don't think it should be punishable. Mainly because of the monthly subscription not only for XIV, but PSN as well. SE is not going to moderate something like that harshly, because that would ultimately effect their cash flow. You already get penalized for a disconnect (30 minute restriction on Duty Finder I believe)?

Most everyone has had a disconnect issue in some form or the other. There have also been times that people purposely disconnect for whatever reason (IE not happy with current party, time constraint, etc). There are a plethora of reasons why someone may do so. But punishable on a more "extreme" scale? That's a bit unnecessary, in my opinion at least.

Actually PlayStation Plus isn't required to play FFXIV :)

If you don't kick them after they DC, they should be right back in the dungeon when they reconnect (unless they changed that). They just hope you will so they will avoid the penalty.

So it's like with purposely AFK people, you either can't afford the time and kick them, or you don't preventing them to cheat the penalty and they end up wasting their own time as well and not just yours. ¨

Personally I don't like to let them go easy because it encourages their bad habit :p
Unless they're DPS, because having to queue again as DPS is penalty in itself, but because of that it's rarely DPS who want to be kicked. Also they're usually easy to replace.

I will admit to doing that in Palace of the dead. Joining a 4dps or 4 healer party is just mind numbing. Another strat for 4 dps is to wipe it right off the bat to get another group (if they all agree to it, of course)

Actually you only get hit with a DF penalty if you voluntarily leave. If you're vote kicked you can queue right back up with no penalty, something people have already requested having a penalty added to. It happened to me once in Amdapor a while back, I DC'd before the first boss and they immediately vote kicked me. Once I got back in I queued back up and it dropped me in the same party. It definitely made the rest of the dungeon awkward.

It's impossible to know if a person disconnected on purpose or it's an accident, unless they confirm it themselves. If they did, you can report them. (as someone mentioned above)
Otherwise, don't waste your time. It sucks, it happens a lot, but there's nothing we can do about it atm and in near future.


Forcing a leaver penalty on someone kicked is not an option, since i saw a lof of unfair kicks and as i was solo (tank), 1 vote is enough to kick someone from your party and i can't even prevent that. Before that, i would like that they change awful kick system first, i.e. 1 person initiates + 1 his friend vote "yes" = 100% kick, this is awful beyond imagination. The vote kick system in FFXIV is really bad and unfair. 2 people should not be able to 100% kick ANYONE they want at ANYTIME (assuming that enough time passed for vote kick initiation).

On one hand I do agree that some form of penalty should happen if you're kick from a party because of those that do purposely dc. On the other hand placing a penalty on a person that is kicked from a party is unfair, I've seen my share of people being kicked because they dc'd. I used to have bad net and have gotten kicked from a party for dc'ing once, I've also been kicked from raids because I didn't know the mechanics for it because it was my first time doing it.

i think it is more of a community issue than it is a gameplay issue. one reason i prefer to play with friends

giving any sort of penalty in the current system against a "victim" will open the doors for abuse far more than the intended purpose.

there's too much power between 2 people as it is. Just imagine trying to give advice to that ice mage... but they take it as an attack and their tank or healer girlfriend comes to their aid, aaaaand....
you're gone after 1 or 2 bosses. eating a penalty, wasting your time spent in the dungeon, and you STILL have to wait for that queue afterwords. The system needs to be a bit better before I'm willing to give more power to the "DF community".


Although, I have to ask, because I never understood the mentality of avoiding the penalty if the excuse is "I have to leave" or something.

If you're leaving, you shouldn't be back before the penalty is gone. and it's not like even the worst DF roulettes take that long, considering you were already 5 minutes into a run to even get kicked. and if it's a dungeon you don't like from a roulette.... well you're asking for the boot, and that's going to take 5 minutes?

Yes it is reportable & if you have chat confirmation then the GMs will act on it. You can copy the chat text into the report as suggested in the information box.

As I've said in the OP, it's understandable when a persons net is actually acting up, or the servers just aren't working right. But when you have a person actually -say- in chat that they aren't running the dungeon anymore, because they don't want to deal with one of the longer dungeons (Neverreap) and then dc right after...that is just a really horrible way to play a game by.

Not to mention it alienates people who actually -do- have net issues in general. Initially I did want to just sit and wait for the person to log back on, but that is just wasting my other fellow party members time trying to deal with a troll like that and go through the dungeon even slower.

What frustrated me wasn't people who dc from actual issues, but people who purposely manipulate the system and feel they can take that attitude with them wherever they go without punishment. I have never seen it in my 3 years of playing before, and I just want to prevent others from picking up that very same terrible attitude and ruining what is otherwise a very awesome community. Now that I know it's reportable with chat logs, I will keep that in mind for future instances, thanks~ :3

As others have noted, if the individual explicitly mouthed off about the d/c being deliberate, report them. If there's actual in-game text evidence, the GMs have a lot more to go on than just some irate player who's SURE that they did it on purpose so why aren't you punishing them gawd GMs are so useless!!1!

Sadly, very few people are actually stupid enough to spell it out when they're abusing d/c. Most of the time, like after the third wipe when the tank just so coincidentally happens to d/c, they just quietly disappear. There's not a lot that GMs can do about that - and as others have said in the thread, granting PLAYERS the ability to apply punishments is a dangerous step to take. While it's extremely frustrating to see someone shirk the abandon duty punishment in this way, it's certainly the case that folks DO kick people for petty reasons - something that's bad enough even without stacking a thirty minute penalty on top!

Speaking from a strictly personal standpoint, however, I WOULD like players to have the option to apply a penalty to their kicks; an extra checkbox you can tic. I tend to be more concerned with punishing the guilty than I am with protecting the innocent, and I am not so cynical to believe that abuse of this system would be widespread. The fact that you actually have to tic a checkbox for the punishment to be applied means that only the trolliest of trolls will bother, and for those cases accumulated GM reports will eventually punish the kickers anyway.

A system that'd automatically punish disconnects on the premise that it may or may not be to get out of a duty is really odd to ask for.

I mean, I'm pretty sure someone deliberately saying they're going to disconnect is grounds for a report anyway.

Everyone is giving advice on situations that don't even pertain to the discussion at hand. Everyone knows some people lose connection for multiple reasons, that's not what this thread is about. This thread is about people who disconnect on purpose, and state as such, so that they will be kicked and avoid a penalty. Discussing situations where people lose connection due to bad Internet or whatever is irrelevant to the discussion.

How exactly would this be abused? If there is a stipulation in place that they have to actually mention that they are doing it on purpose for the above reasons than you wouldn't be able to effectively report innocent people.

I would like to ask how a computer/machine can tell the difference between someone pulling the plug and someone having legit internet issues?

I usually just leave and level crafting. it's more fun and efficient. Especially if the DPS suck ass which is about 50% of the time. I don't even wait for a wipe. If I notice the first boss is taking forever to die, despite my DPSing as a healer, I'm out. Don't even say anything. I just abandon and go craft, re-queue in half hour, rinse and repeat. Usually after 2-3 abandon and re-queues I get a geared group that just speed runs the dungeon.

As someone else said, I don't think there's a way to prove it was purposeful unless they specifically said something in chat that would allude to it.

Question. People are saying that the op is asking for an automated system. I have not been able to see her say this. Can someone point to where they specifically mentioned an automated system?

because thats how invoking a penalty works? it's either automated or involves human interaction

it would either have to be all or nothing. meaning it's player controlled- tying a penalty to a D/C regardless, leaving open to far too much abuse.

OR

The game (i.e. an automated system) would invoke the penalty for a D/C'd player, based on if it was purposeful or not upon getting the boot. which leads back to if a computer can or would tell the difference.


Unless you really think the OP meant, implied, or said there would be GM handling every single individual case.... which is far FAR less realistic than assuming an automated system.

Sometimes life gets in the way. They have to disconnect and don't have time to let you know why. It happens. There are a lot worse things I would rather see them do something about, like the auto invite to friend a Gil seller or the constant Gil sellin at Limsa. I dont care if people leave they can if they want to, they must have a reason but I see NO reason to be exposed to the Gil sellers constantly. Resources need to be allocated to something that is against play rules not a disconnect. Real life gets in the way bots are just a creation to take advantage of a game aspect THEY should be dealt with.

You can report directly to a the GMs who will then communicate with you via the ingame function. There are ways to report behavior outside the automated system, and I've seen it used before. To automatically assume that the only way to report someone is through the automated reporting feature is rather ignorant. The game has customer service and GMs for a reason. Granted the manual way of reporting takes much more time and effort but if you feel it is worth there is no reason not to use it. Also, how does one report someone for abusing a parser on indirectly insulting others in their group? Reporting someone else for harassment may not see action through the automated feature, but may find resolve with a GM. Unless you are telling me that if I report for harassment that a GM looks over the chat log manually anyway, which would completely discredit your point.

Yes, and I never said it isn't. I was pointing out that people were bring up irrelevant situations that added nothing to the discussion at hand. Someone claimed it could be abused, as in people could report others for no reason, which I have a reason as why it couldn't be. Don't really know what you are trying to say.
