LOL the reaching is real today.
Alphinaud's clothes have always been blue, and the red outfit on the right is Alisae's new clothes, post-Heavensward.
Pray, keep thine pantaloons firmly equipped.
Can't you tell that the elegant sway of Alphinaud's ponytail clearly suggests dancer?
Dancer with weaponized ponytails confirmed.
Three characters on one image? HL3 confirmed!
Yeah we all have a good laugh and then watch her teach Little Rocket-Boots how to use a sword in 3.5 and this actually happens.
You know what. I'll put my faith in op, I'll take the picture and I'll believe we can have Blu.
... But I want Sam also
If Alphinaud is a blue mage, he'll learn one move per one mistake he's been doing.
You sir, are a genius.
I would honestly laugh if it was that easy to figure out lmao
I think Alphinaud is about as much of a Blue Mage as his sister is in love with me--not at all.
Trip trap, trip trap....
If Alphinaud were not portrayed very clearly as an Arcanist, I may have fallen for this.
Instead I shall take this as further (albeit reaching) evidence that Red Mage is a class associated with Sharlayan.
Well his sister was always a arcanist and out of nowhere she pulled a rapier out of her book who says he won't pull a magical scimitar from his book? Actually if BLU is indeed our second new job I wonder what twist their weapons will bring. If they did it for RDM I doubt BLU would get a same old generic scimitar. Perhaps they will get gunblade scimitars? Or my favorite suggested weapon a scimitar whip?
I have yet to do the Coils of Bahamut, so I don't know how accurate this is, but to my knowledge, we've never -seen- Alisae using her book like an Arcanist would. By contrast we have -seen- multiple times, Alphinaud summoning Carbuncles, Casting Ruin and Healing with Physick. Given that Louisoix gave the twins the books and said the true knowledge within would be unlocked when they used them together, I could possibly see a Blue Mage connection, but the sudden and drastic shift in class/job for Alphinaud would seem strange and maybe a little forced. Especially as Hoary Boulder has given us plenty of teasers about Blue Mage in his own training when he was off.
That and I'm not sure Blue Mage would suit Alphinaud. We don't know what the class is yet, but a long-ranged caster placing aether constructs between himself and harm's way certainly seems to fit Alphinaud as a character. He's a strategist, a chess master. Blue Mage would necessitate putting one's self in harms way just to learn.
That's a mood point in this game characters change jobs all the time before ninja thancred was considered a bard or gladiator then out of no where he became a ninja. Before 3.0 the WOL was a warrior then he switched to dragoon. NPC like the players aren't locked to jobs forever there are hints that they can job change as well.
I can't disagree with that too much as we do see characters changing their job/class to a degree. Thancred used a single dagger in the 2.0 storytelling and switched to two daggers when Yugiri was involved. That strikes me less as a change of job and more as an evolution from one job to another. Alisae was a blank slate, holding an arcanists' tome, but never actually having used any arcanist spells or abilities (to my knowledge). The Warrior of Light isn't really an NPC at all, and derplander is a fill in and will use whatever job is themed appropriately for the next expansion.
Hoary Boulder was a Gladiator/Paladin, and if the speculation is true, became a Blue Mage. Given the melee nature of Blue Mages in past games, that training as a Gladiator would certainly give him the experience and skills to be a successful Blue Mage. By contrast, for a caster to become a melee class seems very forced.
I'm waiting to see what the next class is before assuming Alphinaud will even take a new class to begin with. There is some overlapping in the Scions right now, after all. Urianger is an Arcanist as is Alphinaud.
Except Daggers were in fact Gladiator weapons before Ninja came along and Thancred did in fact use Rampart, Fast Blade, Savage Blade and Rage of Halone all of which are Gladiator abilites.
And in past games Summoners were able to call upon the Summons themselves, do we have that in 14? I wouldn't say past games means things arnt subject to change. In fact I would say out of all the jobs Blue Mage would be the most flexible to fit into any playstyle, melee or magic user. Hell I mean Alphinaud isn't even guarenteed to be a ranged magic user indefinatly when new jobs get introduced.
Nope Daggers were used by Gladiators all the way up until Ninja's release in 2.4.
You are presuming it would be without knowing anything about how it would work tbh though. Imo everything atm is pointing towards Blue Mage and there are leans towards Red and Blue. Who better than Alphinaud who's twin is Red?
Presuming something without any information is not a great argument as to why it's a bad idea.
Well, we -don't- know how BLU works yet =D Yet it seems unlikely (though not impossible) that SE would add a second Ranged DPS Caster Job to Stormblood.
I'm in the camp of thinking it'll be BLU next. I don't argue with anyone on that point. I can see how it would be other classes than BLU as well, but I think it'll be BLU. What I find hard to swallow is this idea that Alphinaud will be a Blue Mage, because Alisae appears to be a Red Mage. We've had no buildup at all to suggest Alphinaud will be a Blue Mage. It would feel completely out of left field. Perhaps over the course of Stormblood we could see this gradual growth, but at the moment it feels like it would be forced.
Why would it need to be dps? :D
Blue Mage is flexible by it's nature, it could fill any role in the group without tarnishing what the job is. White Wind for example is a heal that Blue Mages have always had for the group, Mighty Guard boosts defense dramatically etc. It's not like a Black Mage ^^
I was working along the train of thought that Alphinaud would be a Blue Mage, and therefor the Class would suit his character's current existing combat style. Even if Thancred went from Gladiator to Ninja, that's still not that big of a change. Still a front line fighter. Alternatively, if BLU were a healer I think that'd suit Alphinaud fairly well. I just don't see him falling into the melee category, but BLU (from past FF games) seems to require melee range and even being hit at times. That's something Alphinaud has always avoided.
Granted FFXIV's BLU can be vastly different in acquiring skills, so all bets are off. I just don't think Alphinaud would match up well as a BLU given its past incarnations.
I have a theory... :O

What if the siblings go their separate ways again and Alphinaud falls in battle?
it's gonna be a dnc; spider produces silk, plus dancer prefers silken garment/weapon
Pantyhoser job confirmed. Alphinaud the man-girl also confirmed as official mascot.
I feel that BLU will be a tank in this game because we currently have no "Mage tank" and they seem to fit the role Best since they get hit by monster magic. My gut is telling me that this expansion will only feature mages because people have complained that there is a huge lack of Caster options, and in my opinion RDM (DPS)/BLU (Tank) remedy that. And I doubt Square enix would release their two most requested jobs at the same time. So here is how it will happen I think.
1.) 4.0 = RDM (DPS) / BLU (Tank)
2.) 5.0 = SAM (Tank) / DNC (Healer)
I want to believe, but I also feel like SAM/DNC are more appropriate to an expansion about Ala Mhigo, than RDM/BLU are. Those would be better saved for 5.0, which seems to indicate we'll be going to Sharlayan. One of the Live Letters described how the current expansions are telling the story about the rebuilding of the Eorzean Alliance. 3.0 took us to Ishgard, 4.0 takes us to Ala Mhigo, and this story will end after 5.0, or more specifically, at the start of 6.0. Of the Six nations of Eorzea, all that's left would be Sharlayan, a Magic-Heavy nation by all accounts. If there was an expansion to release a bunch of Mage Jobs, that'd be it.
Not going to lie but I am standing with my opinion that 5.0 is the Garlean Empire Expansion where we may get the Gunblade Job as one of the new Jobs for 5.0 either as the Tank or DPS Job.
The entire story has been building up for the final battle against the Garlean Empire once Eorzea is fully united which will become united once Ala Migo becomes fully part of the Eorzean Alliance in 4.X era.
Not to mention the constant hint that the garlean Empire is getting ready for another Invasion to Eorzea and with Ala Mhigo free from the Garlean Empire the only path into the Garlean Empire will be open.
We've all got our own opinion, but Eorzea isn't united until Sharlayan joins the Alliance. 6 Nations. 5/6 doesn't give us a United Eorzea. My hope is that 5.0 will be about Sharlayan and ramp up the war with Garlemald severely, causing us to push into Garlemald itself as a counter-attack. If Garlemald got its hands on Sharlayan's knowledge of magic and Aether, well, we probably WOULD see a resurgence of the Allagan Empire. Garlemald has the tech, and Sharlayan has the magic.
I could remotely entertain the idea of the SamuRaimi theory if it was at least a shirt from those movies, but it's not, and Spider-Man is associated with a whole slew of people before you can think about the director of some of his movies.
On the flip side, some people have said "Blue Mage because Spider-Man's costume is red AND blue, just like Stormblood will have Red Mage AND Blue Mage!" but there's no blue on that shirt, so that theory doesn't really hold water either.
