Insane theory: New Job is Freelancer

I posted this in anither thread, but thinking about it long enough, it could be plausible, but still have a feeling I'm insane.

I have a thought about the shirt's suggestion that is wildly out there, and based on something very minor, though I'm unsure how it would work out.

Let's not look at Spider-Man, but look at Peter Parker. What is Peter Parker's profession? Let me quote Marvel's own site for those unfamiliar with the history.

"To help his Aunt May with finances, Peter took a freelance job at the Daily Bugle selling pictures of himself as Spider-Man to publisher J. Jonah Jameson."

What if the new job is Freelancer? Think about it for a moment. They want to compact cross-class skills. Why not make a job based on someone that could do anything? If it starts at 50, it means they can add the skills commonly used to that at start. I have no idea how you'd get cross-class before then though.

Though has there been confirmation that the second job will start at 50? It could start at level 1, and replace the class system entirely. It can use all weapons, and just like now, you get your quests from that guild's leader. But rather than gear, you learn the general skills that would've all been cross-classed with each quest, rather than leveling 2-3 jobs to get everything. All 1-30 new characters post-expansion are freelancers rather than a class, but they can still choose a starter weapon.

This way, people won't have the excuse that they don't have a skill, because they can learn it all with one class at the appropriate level.

I'm not sure what they could do post-30 though, other than adding some more abilities.

Once you switch jobs, the ability that you would've had will be placed in the same place as now.

This is just a rough idea I thought of during my break, but that's almost over so maybe I can add more later. :D

You're right, this is an insane theory.

It probably won't happen in FF XIV, but it's fun to think about combining your favorite actions from many different jobs into one job with no regard to balance.

Freelancer is also essentially the lack of a job in the terms of FF. Clue for the destruction of the entire job system due to everyone playing Red Mage anyway. XD

I think they would go Mime for a "do anything" job before they went Freelancer.

Most popular new class is Samurai. Then comes Blue Mage and Dancer. I dont think SE will implement a completely new class into the game. I guess they want to add all "traditional"/typical Final Fantasy classes/jobs first.

Sorry to say, but the next job will be Samurai. I would wonder, if SE would announce a different job next year.

So Freelancer is like a class with the 1.0 armory system (can equip every learned skill from other classes but without the trait boosts) as a job?

I would make a MNK/WAR/AST hybrid job

I'm suddenly reminded of how much fun it was to break FFV with a party of Freelancers.

Yeah, yoshi said they should think more closer to home than to speculate samurai from spiderman

it's literally impossible to implement in the current game systems which they have said they aren't planning to change, but it's an interesting perspective

yes, because lying when asked such a direct question is so out of the question. Yoshi P wants an air of secrecy and speculation surrounding the tshirt, of course he is going to deny everything.


Also to the OP, this idea is about as probable as having the moon as the new housing area (wow... now I want the moon as the housing area).

Gunner/Corsair are common in other FF games. Nothing new here.

Only AST seems to be a completely new class here. But instead of 3 new classes/jobs (1 Heal, 1 Tank, 1 DD), we get 2 new classes/jobs (2 DDs?) now.

Imo all jobs are either old jobs with a new design or mixes of old jobs
AST can be considered as Time Mage (kind of skills, source of his powers "spectral/star magic/time manipulation")
MCH can be considered as Canonier or Ranger with extra gadgets
PLD is Knight with cross classed WHM skills in Heavensward PLD becomes a real PLD with his own white magic skills
MNK is MNK...nothing to say here
WAR is WAR with som Berserk flavoured skills
DRG is DRG...nothing special from old incarnations
NIN is a mix of THF and NIN from older incarnations
BRD is a Archer with songs and got some Ranger skills with Heavensward
BLM and WHM are mostly like their old incarnation
SCH got his balance between white magic and black magic aka balance between DPSing and healing but he changed his personal itembuff against the fairy
SMN got changed from using summons as one time casts to permasummon their pets and got the DoTing and stack burn mechanics.

So imo more than half of our jobs have a modified or mixed incarnation/interpretation in this game than their "classic" interpretation and just a few are more or less true to their "classic" interpretation.

tl;dr: From my PoV their are no "new" jobs in this game, just old ones mixed together or in a new coat and/or a new name
