Its not like SAM is even confirmed its just for fun, hell if this gets less likes then w/e. As it been said in other threads the job is already done what they have is what they have, and us saying anything at this point will hardly make a difference, cause if that was the case am sure DRK would have been dps as well.
At this point it will be either a DPS or a tank and it would be far too late to change that. They aren't going to completely overhaul a class less than 6 months from release.
I will say this. If SAM is announced and it is a DPS then they better introduce a popular tank class or DPS will have very long dungeon queues when stormblood launches.
Getting two new DPS classes for Stormblood would be awesome. I already am thinking of maining RDM but having the option for DPS SAM would be fantastic too.
As much as it would be nice getting new healers and tanks, more options for different playstyles of DPS would be the best. There are too many times when I want to play damage but I don't feel like playing anything I have XD.
You already have a new dps.
It's called Red mage.

Yeah like how RDM was gonna be a tank

DPS is always the most popular so of course any requests for any job to be a DPS would be showed with praise by people, I said it before but if we had to vote on it we would never get another new healer or tank again.
Yes, please.
Reasons:
1. Already have 2 swordsman jobs for the tank role.
2. Still no sword user job for DD.
3. Ninja is the only slashing DD.
4. Yoshida-san said that Samurai would be a DD and we all know that he's a man of his word.
RDM doesn't exist, yet. not count.
this I can agree with, but if they want to make a Tank then use a Tank job don't take what is a DPS "Dark Knight" and make it a tank just cause we need one, hell add in 100 tanks and healers just don't use the jobs that are defined by most as DPS and turn them into one. In turn then never being able to play them as DPS in the future.
There are already enough DPS jobs.
Now this here is an issue. Look up the definition of Samurai. People need to own the fact that what they are really pleading for is less responsibility. You are correct in that adding a hundred Tanking jobs wouldn't make it any more popular, however you are wrong in believing series hallmarks like the Genji armor, Drawout skills, Cyan (a literal Knight of Doma), Seigan + Third eye, are just a few of many staples if the job and series, by all means look that up as well. Samurai in FFXI was a Tank, the path of least resistance made Ninja a Tank and reversed it's intended function there.
As important as your enjoyment of the game is so to is the that of a populace not represented enough through all mmo's. DPS are a dime a dozen, with more options than any other role. Even when it come to cultural representation. Should not an Eastern job show that can also Tank? Or is that the providence of Warriors and Knights? I guess Samurai in your book could never stand among them in vanguard then? An argument often used is that no roles exist in non online offerings of the FF series, however in most cases a Samurai could use heavy armor... imagine that. In FFXI as stated before it was meant for the front line. If we take the definition of Samurai it means what? So tell me again, apart from anime Ronin what definitions of Samurai are you going by?
Can we have a referendum for this? Use democracy to solve this issue.
I very well aware Samurai was a tank in FFXI I main it and loved it even tanking in that game, even have an Amanomurakumo I lvl 119 to prove it, but that game is different in that it allowed any job to be nearly anything they wanted to be if you put enough effort. And in this game its one way period no room to experiment, so if I were to choose which part of a samurai I like the best it is DPS
Well I won't deny it uses a sword but when I see people say sword DPS they mean a DPS who mainly uses sword attacks like a Samurai. From what we saw RDM won't be mainly using sword attacks even though they have a sword. Also they have been classed as a RANGED dps even though they have a sword which implies they will be Ranged most of the time casting spells and here and there going in to use the sword but not too often. just a theory of course nothing set in stone.
Our 3 tanks and healers should be balanced before announcing a new one. As it is, PLD/WHM can be removed and people would go "we had those?"
Now the Red Mage is DPS, then yes, I want the Samurai be a tank. Don't be fucking greedy.
And we cannot vote. The "democracy" works always if all peolpe is in the same terms. But the 80% of the community is DPS. Every class youvote, will be DPS because is majority alwas. So, waht the hell? Tanks are minority of the all minoritys, we will enver win a single votation. We deserve too nice things. And no, a Hammer tank is not what we want.
And Why this suddenly post? You all are conviced than SAM will be a DPS. Ask for being a tank is more logical, since everyone asumed wil lbe DPS. Or... do you fear wil lbe tank when Red Mage becomes a DPS isntead of tank?
Anyway, if the next one is Samurai (let's wait till Europe fan fest), his role is already determined. I will say only, put 2 DPS classes only will break the entire game (Duty finder wise). So I hope the Devs realised that before put 2 DPS classes.
That depends if you sit within melee range or not :P
Anyhow RDM isn't a melee dps, it's a ranged dps that carries and can use a sword. I'll give it a shot it sounds fun. In all honesty I wouldn't be surprised if Samurai came in as a Tank considering they considered Samurai for the Tank role in heavensward, but I wouldn't be as elated if it was a Tank than if it came out as a dps. But I'm willing to bet Samurai might be held off until 5.0 so get used to 5 million more TANK VS DPS SAMURAI threads. Unfortunately, we keep torturing ourselves with these threads.
nah, lv cap goes up to 70, so ppl will cap their mains first, which...is spread out across all the jobs. so if you start doing SB MSQ right away, you won't see a single SAM or RDM, anywhere; you might see someone after a few hours, cause they are insane speed runners, but it will take a few days before it starts to become noticeable.
We need another INT job and another STR job (DPS, tanks are VIT). It looks like RDM will be the former, and SAM is a valid candidate for the latter. So why not?
We got Red Mage which uses a sword so . . Samurai will most probably be a tank.
Or we'll get 2 new damage dealers and their queues will be.. I don't even want to imagine.
The Tank will be dancer.
Redmage support
DPS samurai
I actually think SAM makes more sense as a DPS. Since I believe it can bring something unique to the table vs being a tank. I won't main it either way though (now dancer on the other hand, that has my attention if it comes in Stormblood, but it better not be a DPS), so I'm not really biased here.
Oh my God are you serious? Red mage already a DPS, yet you want ANOTHER DPS? Seems so unbiased, no really. The problem is that we need a viable tank role and Samurai as a Tank is the best option: heavy armor, good for parry etc. And is appealing for the MAJORITY (I said majority, so no not all tanks but a good some who actually main tank) want something nice. How many more DPS jobs do u want? Fk Tanking if yoshida isn't going to give love to tanks, might aswell go to DPS and yolo.
