It seems like every other role in the game has a sort of dark and melancholy class that one can play except for healers. they are all pretty much the same. I'd love to see some healing with an ascetically dark aura about them.

Cool idea. I'm having trouble thinking of a traditional Final Fantasy job that would fit the bill, but they could invent something new. Maybe a Warlock or Necromancer style of class. There's a lot that could be done with heals that are derived from draining health from enemies, or even other allies. Auto-Revive could be a thing. Or a "Blessing of Undeath" buff that lets an ally continue to stand and fight for a limited time even after they reach zero HP. Sap the strength of enemies as a way to mitigate damage.
I know we already have an "Alchemist" as a crafting job, but we could have a flavour of combat healer fashioned after that as well. If you've seen Full Metal Alchemist, you know how dark that show can get. Lots of potential to tap there.
Samurai for Tanks, Dark Healer class for Healers, and Red Mage for DPS - sounds like a plan! (づ ◕‿◕ )づ
A fallen White Mage that learned everything there was to learn from the holy path turned to darker means to continue his knowledge of healing.
The White Mage level 60-70 skills will deal with more controversial spells dealing with necromancy, witchcraft and the such.
I mean healing is healing, rather you obtain the means to heal from the elementals or the dead, right? :3
I'm reminded of Dark Souls' Cleric, and how even though miracles are holy healing spells, the Cleric NPCs themselves are almost always the most darkest, rotten and insane of them all.
But...but all healers must wear white. It's a rule.
:P
Who said SAM will be tank, we can have 2 DPS and a 1 healer as new class XD
The only rule I follow is "A healer is the sassy queen of the group, follow my order or die under my watch"
.........
Otherwise I would LOVE a dark-themed healer, something that would break the fake holy image of a kind healer
God I hate that, it's not because we got healing skill that we will pamper people :P

It would not be that new look at shadow priest on WOW.
Well in 1.0 Thaumaturge sacrificed HP for bigger heals - http://www.final-fantasy-14.org/abilities.php?name=&rank=&class=Thaumaturge&order_by=&submit=Filter
Yoshi-P has said in the past that when deciding on the tank role for Heavensward, they were torn between making it a Dark Knight or a Samurai. They eventually opted to make it the Dark Knight for Heavensward.
Video from PAX East 2015 speaking to tank role design decision.
This doesn't mean they will be releasing Samurai in the future and this also doesn't mean if they do release Samurai it'll be a tank role, but it was considered to be a tank role at one point in time when deciding the jobs for Heavensward.
There is a necromancer in the ff series; however it doesn't have a clear identity it could be a DPS healer in this game. I would love 1.0 sacrifice to be there main cure it was interesting.
Other than AST, DRK has my favorite aesthetic, so I would love this.
necro healer could work for a "dark healer" aesthetic type
WHM has core staple heal, SCH has fairy, AST has card, i say maybe NCR has skill than can boost your heal or even change how the heal work by using portion of his/her own HP?
basically high risk high reward healer playstyle
It wouldn't be dark themed but I would love SE to add Chemist as a healer. You could use stacking buffs and mix them to make potions to heal with (or dps with lethal combinations!) Just imagine being a mad scientist and laughing maniacally as you throw potions and friend and foe alike!
Remember the old version of Arcanists "sustain" that would sacrifice some of their own HP to heal their pets? I don't remember their reasoning for changing that skill but maybe it's because they planned to release a healer with self-sacrifice in mind and wanted that gameplay to be exclusive to said healer.
Or it could be the opposite and they're really against healers hurting themselves to heal others.
I always thought of SCH as the "dark" healer. Just look at their DPS skills. Bio and Bio II which are poisons, Miasma and Miasma II which are both based on choking darkness, Shadowflare, Ruin and Ruin II, Energy Drain, Virus. Their heals are kind of philosophy/science based as well: Physick, Adloquium, Succor, Lustrate, Indominability... The only things that really dispel the dark/anti-holy theme are the fairies and Sacred Soil.
When he says dark he means on the lines of literally dark magicks and the such. Poisons and ailments that leads to death is a dark way to go but not near the OP's point.
The SCH's healing skills are actually latin words, all almost meaning encouragement.
I'm sure SE can think of a "dark healer" through the Void mages. But right now we don't need anymore healers. In my opinion at-least.
I've kinda seen the ast as a dark healer....their signature color is black and they don't really use sacred or holy magic to heal, they use forbidden magic and tarot cards to heal, not to mention with their spells like malific and gravity, they are basically warping the fabric of space and time to heal.
Just the idea "dark healer" has always made no sense to me. People on the dark side aren't really concerned with saving lives.
What lore in the game says AST is forbidden magicks besides the Ishgardians always saying anything outside of their belief is a forbidden magick? AST magick = Relies on the celestial bodies which are in space. /o/ If anything, dressing up like a stereotypical witch is far from being dark.
Yes to dark healer! Their mechanic could be something like blood magic, lifesteal, necromancy, insanity or unstable alchemy. Sacrifice the HP of the entire group to give buffs, convert own HP to MP, give self a short debuff to do a big heal, equalize the HP bars of all nearby allies, summon temporary creatures to suck the life out of, surrender to madness (sorry for the reference) and increase healing for a short time while draining your own MP, or throw an aoe potion that gives random players the side effect of a dot whilst buffing/healing everyone.
Of course they are; intelligent evil characters are extremely interested in keeping their allies alive. Pragmatic villains tend to be the most dangerous, after all.
Besides, as Greedalox says, dark and evil are not always the same thing, especially in modern fantasy, which tends to be a little more nuanced. We'd be much more likely to see another case of "well-intentioned characters uses dark and/or blood-themed magic for good."
On a side note, I personally I don't want to see any dark "chemist" stuff. Prefer my healers straight-up magical rather than alchemical, but obviously some players would enjoy that theme.
I'd use Oracle/Mystic/Ying Yang Mage as a base, on the condition the healer can switch between a healing aspect and offensive aspect. I'd also look at Revelation Online's Occultist/Necromancer/Life & Death Mage for inspiration (basically a mage that uses dark magic but gets a stance that changes all its dark-aspected attack spells into light-aspected healing/buff spells). Here's a vid someone made with translated skill names. Just replace the poleaxe with a scythe.
A dark healer class would be nice and all, but I'm also in favor of simply having darker outfits for healers. Kind of depressing that almost every outfit that comes out for healers is light colored when your personal aesthetic is darker... (I'm looking at you, 24man raids.)
Something that involves self sacrifice (aside from MP lol), deals with voidsent, perhaps BDSM aesthetics like chains and whips.
Or evil fairies, bound to a Scholar's will, that use offensive magic/debuffing magic... because fairies aren't quite lovely in old folklore- they're as bad as demons.
Vampire needs to happen.
I already consider SCH to be a dark healer. At least my SCH is anyway :p
However, I do like the idea of draining the health of your foes to heal your allies. Just not quite sure how that would fit in this game when in the hands of players.
What kind of self sacrifice are you imagining? WHM can, story-wise, already cast from HP, but it's extremely ill-advised. I'm assuming most jobs can actually do this in some fashion like Moenbryda. Dealing with voidsent sounds like a hilariously bad idea that would get you hunted by everyone with any amount of sense. What would we even gain from this? Voidsent haven't been shown to have any powers that we ourselves aren't capable of. They're bound by the same rules we are, assuming we're on the same power level of course.
As for your fairies idea, they'd have to develop completely new lore, because implementing that currently would mean your character is essentially a slave owner. Lily isn't some sort of spirit we've bound to our will. She was a living person who's actually working with us. She's shown she has her own, separate, mind when she defends Surito Carito.
