Listen to music scrolls anywhere in eorzea! (an idea)

Wondering your opinions on this idea.. MP3 type miniature orchestrion in our pocket/key items. Works the same way as the orchestrion menu, selecting the song and shuffle etc however you can listen to your scrolls whilst riding your mounts, going to different cities, just hanging near your fc house etc This idea gives people a chance with no housing/no fc to still be able to use all the scrolls they have collected. Im aware there is a orchestrion in our inn rooms however we are just locked inside a tiny space. I personally would love to go through camp drybone whilst listening to twilight over thanalan with all the background noises and stuff like in 1.0 days. Maybe going into duties, trials etc would just be the original music, but its just an idea, one that i really really like and just wondering your opinions \o/ maybe if enough like it we can get this :D

While I'd love to be able to listen to any music I want anywhere (who wouldn't?) I do think this has a high chance of compromising the game's soundtrack. If you can always listen to your favorite song, when are you going to listen to the new stuff?

So if they did this, I feel like it would have to be restricted to areas from previous expansions, and then everyone would be mad it wasn't available elsewhere. And people with primal mounts would be annoyed that the music part isn't special anymore. But I don't have any of those so I'm all for it. ;)

Er .. unless you actually LISTEN to the new stuff you'll not actually know if there's something NEW that you like!

We can already do this in any inn or housing with an Orchestrion, and we can buy scrolls of music we've not yet heard in-game .. there's no difference, you're making an arbitrary distinction to make an argument against something you appear not to want.

Wait, what? I think there is a miscommunication here. I'm saying that if users can use Twilight Over Thanalan all the time, they may never actually hear the 4.0 music. I don't personally care (I just wouldn't do that), but if I were the game designer I'd be very much against giving users the option to completely ignore a large part of the game. That's all I'm saying.

I believe it would compromise the soundtrack in terms of sales... of the soundtrack. They sell the OSTs for the purpose of listening to your favorite music whenever you want. Just mute the game music, create a playlist on whatever device you like, and go nuts!

There have been times where I in fact did listen to Twilight Over Thanalan on repeat instead of the in game music. X)

haha yes, same here my friend. well i did say "Maybe going into duties, trials etc would just be the original music, but its just an idea," meaning we would still have the pleasure of listening to all new music in the trials, and dungeons etc, this is lik so we can change the music at mist and lavender beds and south shroud :)

I suspect most (all?) those who buy the OSTs, like I do (I have the two Before Meteor and one ARR OST, not to mention umpteen other FFXI CDs) listen to them anywhere OTHER than in-game, I really think your fear is groundless.

Would that not end in chaos? If everyone change the BGM of a map every 1 sec? ^^

OP's idea likened it to a music player, so I'd imagine it would be personal.

Of course, as Seig said, you can already do that by flicking on a playlist containing the released soundtrack, so it's kind of a pointless suggestion.

Oh, no fears here. I was just trying to point out that we technically already have an option to listen to any of our favorite tracks from the game while we play; not necessarily that it precludes what the OP is asking for, just that the option is certainly there. Albeit, if so much as one person who would buy the soundtrack to listen to while playing FFXIV decided not to because they had full control of the music in-game, that would technically be a compromised sale. X)

But then there's streamers like myself. If the music is coming out of the game (say I could be sat down during a BRB scene in my apartment with the orchestrion playing), and you can see my character sat down in-game, then yeah, I can livestream that even with BRB graphics. Copyright will be OK. An in-game portable orchestrion, would work the same way as far as copyright goes, because you'd be pumping out the music from in the game client itself.

I mute the game BGM 90% of the time.

Then I use YouTube or my own mp3s to play what I want when I want.

Some of the time I play FFXI music...

Just add an Orchestration to chocobos. If we can customize the look of them, why not the music they play?

Well, if you add streaming into the equation, then sure, I can certainly see the unique benefit there.

A personal orchestrion player sounds dope as fudge.
