PLEASE have some sort of balance in PotD? Introduce some sort of checkpoint system.

So i spent the today trying to complete palace with my friends, furthest we got was floor 180+ this took around 9 + hours of play.

When we first wiped, we thought we would of just returned back to floor 150, or even floor 100. We were shocked to find out if you die, its all over lol. We were really disappointed because we wasted so much time grinding this hoping to just complete it, I think one party wipe and its all done and finished is quite harsh.

I mean PotD had checkpoints, if you die on floor 50 you return back to floor 40-50 so why not add some sort of checkpoint for the new one? cos let me tell you, wiping for 1 bad mistake to loose 150 floors its pretty soul destroying. The party is premade, the classes are set give us a checkpoint with the same party, that same class from floor 51, 101, 151. I know the challenge is to not die but still, going back 50 floors seem a little bit better than going back the entire dungeon. :3

Disclaimer: I am not saying the content is too difficult lol, i dont think anything should change as far as difficulty, i just *wish* we didnt have to waste time doing pointless 51-100 everytime in the same party. Would be cool if as a premade party with fixed classes, and you clear floor 100, you can start at floor 100 even if you unfortunately wipe, on the same save slot. This is just my opinion damn haha - hands cookies to all the angry ppl -

What does this have to do with balance?

Well it's for the players who want more challenge, the failing is the challenge, it's like in the old school game days where if you died you had to start the entire game over, if it didn't have the fear of failure then it would just be a continuation of the normal floors.

So needless to say you have to be more careful.

Yeah getting one shotted and having to redo 130 floors is awful, but just save raising poms and keep one on for the dangerous floors for when catastrophe strikes as a safeguard.

My gf and I have been farming the gold sacks as a duo and it takes like 6+ hours to get back up to 150 to do up to 170 and reset. 180 boss is a pain for 2 players to do consistently because of the soft enrage so we just reset.

Checkpoints would be nice but I doubt they will do it right now. Maybe when the content is dead.

I do think it would be lame if you dced or the server went down and you lost all those floors though. At least our characters don't get deleted like D3 HC.

I think it would have been better that once you unlock 101-200 you can start from there since its the beginning of the challenge floors. Still if you die, you have to start from 101 again.

I feel your pain, we got to 170 and wiped (we didn't have a tank so the sudden cleaves were a surprise) we were unlucky and didn't get any gold bags too.

I think they will nerf it in the future like they always do, and allow us to begin at higher floors int he event of a wipe.

Until then... our 4 man static will try again! (So many hours! lol)

Considering this was seperate content to floors 1 to 100, the party should only return to 100 if they wipe not 51.

Damn! It takes 9 hours to get to 180! Yeah, we need a check point. No way in Hell can I stay playing 9+ hours nonstop like that. I got things to do other than this game. I play for leisure not for torture. I want to finish POTD, but not if its like this. It's my favorite content, but I have a life outside FFXIV and can't be glued to the screen like this.

Christ. The one source of challenge in this game outside of Savage, and people are already crying for it to be nerfed to the ground. It's SUPPOSED TO BE A CHALLENGE. The story ends at 100. They've repeatedly said that the last 100 floors were supposed to be for the more competent crowd, and everyone looking for content with story and plot could stop at 100.

This. Just let us have our fun without having to gather up a static and go raiding.

What I do suggest doing, just to make it a bit more interesting, is making rather rare save point pomanders. These could be used as, just for an example, Bonfires in Dark Souls.
Except it's one time use and after you load back into the game it'll disappear, but start you from that pomander.

Try "wiping" to a bug...

you'll get a save every 10 floors and can take breaks in between, theres no need to rush the whole thing within 10 hours

I would for one, like to be able to PLAY this content first, before i get to worrying about anything else.

You do realize that 1-100 is story related and the floors above that is hardcore/savage type content right? If you are too casual or not skilled enough, it was not intended for you. It has been said numerous times that this was made to be very difficult content for dedicated players.

Yup, because not even taking into consideration that even having one ISP hiccup resulting in a possible wipe and losing all progress is totally a challenge.

There are issues that players can't control that can completely ruin a run, aside from ISP issues, both pc and ps4 players can have a system crash, windows update could cause issues for pc players, psn could go down for the 88th billion time, and even power outages, are all issues I've heard and read people dealing with inside 101+

Implying the content has no flaws within its design and having zero ways to save progress in the event things happen that players can't forsee, is down right ridiculous.

Back when I was a kid and the batteries on my Game Boy ran out without me saving the game, I didn't cry. I started over again. (And yeah, it happened at pretty random times too because as a kid I didn't worry about battery life, I just wanted to play!)

Yup, because SE is entirely responsible about how ISPs operate.

Look, the OP was commenting about WIPING, not dc'ing, wiping. So they full and well took that blow and didn't know that it would reset them back to a brand new saving at F51. I know the OP, and I know they check reddit where there are billions upon billion posts about how wiping at 101+ would require a new saving at 51. Let alone the fact that it was mentioned on the patch notes...

Meanwhile, I am glad that people grew up enough to realize that things can be changed for the better and are motivated to do so, even if they typically limit their actions to complaining about it.

I understand the desire for "Savage" content, but are we STILL going to just conveniently ignore the fact this stuff is still accessible as a level 17-50 sprout? How low do you guys want that "savage" entry level bar?

I'm personally fine with the lockout, But getting sent back to 1 or 51 or whatever seems like overkill in the highest degree. The only thing I can think of people really hurting for after a wipe is the Pomanders? maybe they arent 99/99? then again, wipes remove those...

You already have to "earn" floor 101+, so I fail to see the point in making you earn it every single time a 1-shot mechanic/DC/outage/etc. happens. not to mention the time limit. You earned it once. it requires a fixed party. what's wrong with starting you out on floor 101 again? isn't THAT where the "savage" starts?

I said it in the last PoTD thread and it still applies- "challenging" does NOT mean "unfair" guys. If something is this punishing and otherwise too time-consuming, less and less people will even bother- and thats a NEGATIVE.

I have a question. how is doing 50 or 100 floors in your fixed party over again because of 1 fuck up "hard"? No really. you've already done it. what's there to prove? how does removing THAT aspect, in any way, make floors 101+ any EASIER? because you can just start it again? Should we not make every progression group for Alex start over at A1 just because of a lapse in judgement on A12S?

Now I know this is content I may never reach myself. But the way I see it, Final Fantasy lacks some unfair content.
I say keep the system in place.
Square Enix wants to reach all sorts of players. This is may just be the itch for those Dark Fantasy Soul 14 players they finally decided upon, is all.

if you were to just speed to 50-100 it takes roughly less than an hour, to explore said floors maybe add an extra 30m-1hr
then 100+ we did 70 floors in three hours, with exploration

9 hours seems a bit excessive.

as for the question in hand you kind of answered it yourself, the point of it is to be hard.. 1-100 are story driven which is why there is checkpoints, 100+ is the "challenge floors" of which the rewards are given due to risk, you're meant to be scared of dying, you're meant to work around the playing field to avoid dying (hence pomadors etc) and giving checkpoints to this basically kills the challenge and means people will just farm the end floors for the high tier rewards which are meant to be there for not dying.

and the "its accessible as a sprout" excuse isnt even valid, firstly you need a 4 stack premade to do 100+, secondly you are given all of your job or classes tools inside the PotD, which implies you should be learning what to press whilst in there, if anything make it so you cant do 100+ without a job stone and thirdly the 100+ floors aren't exactly "efficient" for experience.

savage was already killed this tier, atleast let us have something, i mean, it's not hard but it's something with a high risk for "high gain" factor.

To add, with the current savage tier anyway, to get to the 2nd to 4th floor, you have to have a party leader who has already beaten the previous floor that week (so, for A12S your party leader needs to have beaten A11S). I'd actually advocate pushing that further like you said, and making it so EVERYONE has had to have beaten A11S that week to access A12S.

You missed the part in the patch notes that to do the quest that unlocks 101+ requires a lv60. That said, yes, their is an element of "difficulty" that comes from these harsh resets. It induces stress, it creates panic; because it makes everything you do then in the duty that much more important and dire because you know what happens if you fuck up. Disconnections are shit when they happen, but that's a part of life and if every bit of content was designed with a safety net because of something the devs cannot control(server hiccups can happen, technology is a bitch) it would severely hinder the value of every fight and challenge. Floors 101+ were not made for mass appeal. Either you rise to the challenge, or you go find something else to do. I certainly hope the devs maintain their stand with this until it becomes old and disregarded.

In regards to a sprout going into the content, that's a poor excuse and you know it. People will voluntarily go 101+, it's not forced on them, which is why it was set for fixed party ONLY.

On the case of "challenging", it can mean unfair, but not unnecessarily only unfair, it can also mean tedious, difficult, extreme, etc. all these can be used to describe the conditions you must meet to enter, and do the content as well. I would say the A1S to A12S change does more bad than good, while the 51 to 200 condition does more good than bad. Yes, it does mean that you start from 51 again, but it also means you can gain upgrades to challenge it again with a higher amount of upgraded Arm and Armor. Pomanders are irrelevant since you can get them on those floors as well. But the whole point of it is once you screw up on Party KO, you have to restart from 51. It's the same with any content ingame, you start from the beginning of a boss fight/trash pull/etc.

Yoshi did warn everyone 101-200 is there JUST for the challenge. Ofc it was going to be unfair and difficult (esp 150+ from what I have seen). If your looking at it and immediately thinking it's unfair then this sliver of content was not aimed at your mindset. Please don't change it on the people that want it.

The Warrior of light doesn't complain about how hard things are. He gets back up and tries again.

I've soloed my way to around 130 about three times now, and I might be done with it. It's not like I find it unfair or that I'm salty about those deaths, but just thinking about wasting another 4h going through 51-100 again and every time I die... I can do better things with my time.

The challenge is beyond 100, and I want to go back in there and see how far I can go. Repeating 51-100 isn't part of the challenge, unless staying awake counts.

Maybe they should add a mode where you can enter straight into 101 and disables accursed hoard. Would that solve everyone's issues?

Sorry, i probably should have clarified. xD I actually disagree with OP about changing the KO rule. I think that's awesome ... although i agree that the problem of getting a KO count on disconnect is an issue to be looked at.

My problem is the forced fixed party system. Even FFXI wasn't that stupid most of the time. There's a difference between 'challenge' and 'stupid'. If SE is determined to have this operate without Duty Finder, fine, but let us change members freely every 10 floors. People pop in the purgatory room anyway, and the pool of people to go on with or invite will be drawn from those who still have a 0 count. Simple. Done. Like if you were fighting Kirin in Sky and someone bails, you can still go shout for a replacement. It doesn't change the fact you were gunna be up there all night for the fight...
