Should Dancer branch off Rogue/Thief or Pugilist?

Would it not make more sense for Dancer to share abilities with Ninja instead of Monk? That is assuming Dancer is even sharing a class with another job. Dancers can use a similar weapon to Ninja since Dancer typically uses knives/daggers as a weapon.

The devs have flatout said they won't ever do another hybrid like SMN/SCH due to how difficult it was to balance. If we do get Dancer, it'll just be a job in the same way DRK/AST/MCH were.

Yes, if we assume dancer is in the game AND we assume it branches off another job it would make more sense to branch off rogue. I even know how the lore would work for that. Sneaky rogue infiltrates castle posing as dancer..and the rest is history.

But Yoshie-P said there won't be branched jobs ever again and currently only red mage is confirmed for stormblood (well 99% confirmed).

I wouldn't mind it. I think Dancer would meld right in with a dagger wielding class. Or like twin ring weapons, not sure what they're called but yeah.

IF dancer was confirmed, and IF they'd ever have a job that branches off something else again, I'm quite certain it would be arc/brd.

I can't get myself to believe a dancer to be some kind of pure DPS thing. To me, it got way more of a supporting role. Buffing people, reducing their CDs, refreshing MP/TP...
Hell, I can even imagine it better as a healer than as a pure DPS.

dancer branching off a class that uses poison, assassination, mutilation, hiding so no one can see you dance, mugging, sneak/trick attacking ppl....makes sense?

dancing around with a bow? that's really no different than singing around with a bow. how would a dancing archer be different than BRD?

Poor Red Mage is swept under the rug by this Dancer speculation that is apparently confirmed by the community. But anyways, if Dancer becomes a thing, I want it to be something brand new, not a rehash of something already existing. So I would vote for not Rogue or Pugilist. That'd be terrible.

To be fair, RDM is all but confirmed, now. Very few people actually believe it's not coming. DNC is still very much up in the air, with lots of folks believing its coming and plenty who believe otherwise, so it makes some sense that folks would debate more about it.

I, too, highly doubt that DNC will split off of another class, but if it did, my guess would be from PGL, not ROG. If the lady in red from the Stormblood trailer WAS meant to be a hint of DNC on the way (and not just a really sexy MNK), it's clear that DNC will be a class that uses hand-to-hand martial arts.

I think it's unlikely that they will make any more jobs that split with other jobs on the same class, but I wish they would. I'd like to have more, and potentially subtle, options rather than more and more classes to level and gear separately.

Also it should be noted that SCH/SMN was a problem specifically because it filled two different roles. If they made dancer a DPS, it would be far easier to have it be an alternate job crystal from another DPS class. Given that they are only adding job abilities, and not class abilities, it wouldn't even cause a big problem going forward. But on the other hand, it would let them re-use some gear and animations, maybe even weapons. Like I said, I think they should do it, but given the public statements about arcanist and the general feel of wanting to phase out classes, it seems unlikely they would.

Eventually, when Dancer is added in whatever expansion (clearly not Stormblood) I'm sure it will be a Job only like the other new Jobs. As they've said OVER and OVER they won't make branching class/jobs as they did with ACN/SMN/SCH previously.

And no it doesn't make any more sense to come from rogue/ninja than it does pugilist/monk. Which either way, it's not coming from either it will be a stand alone Job with cross class skills as MCH, DRK & AST are. Why would this suddenly change when they've made it clear it is the model they will be using for new Jobs?

Dunno about dancer, but red mage could have a rapier, use spells instead of weaponskills, and have the buff oGCDs be magic flavored (e.g. have Brave be the attack buff, some sort of lesser Protect as the defensive buff, stuff like that.)

I agree it's unlikely RDM will be a tank, but why wouldn't dancer be a DPS? Dancer has historically been a damage/support class like Bard (heck, in FF Tactics Dancer is the mirror image of Bard). Even in FFXI, where Dancer can operate as a healer, it's still also a DPS class.

Dancer should be it's own job, not a subclass or advanced class of an existing job

It's not THAT ridiculous. Our only other existing branching class has SCH come off of ACN, and minus two spells (and discounting support abilities, which PGL also has), ACN is all DPS. Granted, DNC's level 30 ability (assuming the job is unlocked at 30) would need to be pretty spectacular so that it can successfully operate as a healer with only one healing ability from levels 30 through 34, but that just makes it difficult, not impossible to implement.

Again, though, not gonna happen. Not because it can't be done, but because creating a new, class-independent job is just so much easier. The job branching system is simply too difficult to be worthwhile.

The only reason they were able to split ACN into a healer role at all is because it was a summoning class. Changing Carbuncle into Eos moves a lot of DPS into healing. A similar method would not work on a non-summoning class; to split any other class into two roles would require some entirely novel approach.

The last good branch class I could have imagined would have been Archer > Ranger/Bard or Rogue > Thief/Ninja/Assassin.

May as well let Dancer do its own thing. Chances are it'll homogenize itself just fine regardless...

i would not be surprised at all if within 2 expansions scholar and summoner become their own jobs split away from the acn class completely and in that time, classes themselves would probably get removed entirely. theyve already mentioned a revamp of the cross class system, it probably will no longer require you to level classes to get the cross skills that are role=based. All of these and bonus stats come as a relic from 1/x which this game is rapidly moving way away from atm

I expect in time Scholar might become its own 'advanced job'. It's just the easiest route.

However, the other way to do it would be to stop class advancement at 30, tie everything after that to the job stone.
So Pugilist for example gets Demolish from the last class quest and then that's it, done. Fists of Wind, Mantra, Enhanced Greased Lightning II, they're all from leveling the stone itself. If you wanted to make Dancer a job branching from pugilist for some reason, you'd then have 40 levels free with which to differentiate it from Monk.

I don't get it. HW trailer was basically about dragons and derplander being drg, and other dragoons. So it was basically job/scenario trailer.
Stormblood trailer is basically derplander being mnk, in a very mnk-like setting.
so......why would a dancer be fighting a monk, on top of a "buddha" statue??
what part of her says dancer? that's she's doing kata/qigong or whatever it's called - it's common in every eastern martial art movie/setting; that doesn't make martial arts movies, musical/dance movies.
like; just watch any martial arts movie, and basically every master, will be doing that stuff.
it's not dancing, and she's not a dancer.

Dancer requirements will be level 15 and to have traveled to all three cities and picked up the dances from the quests.

The line between dance and kata is an extraordinarily thin one. For folks enthusiastic about the Dancer job, it's easy to point out how very differently the two are dressed, how dancelike her initial movements are, and so on and so forth.

Even if you find it unlikely to be true, it shouldn't be so hard to see why folks are grasping at these straws.

As for why a MNK would be fighting with a DNC, if DNC is an Ala Mihgan job (most likely developed as a method to continue practicing combat while under oppressive Garlean rule, passing it off as a harmless pastime whenever the authorities started getting suspicious), they likely have the same roots. The man is practicing traditional MNK martial arts, while the woman is practicing the new DNC style martial arts. It's not unheard of for practitioners of different styles of martial arts to spar with one another.

Honestly, it's most likely a pipe dream, and she's just a MNK wearing an exaggeratedly sexy version of the modified qipao women in martial arts flicks sometimes wear. That doesn't mean it's not fun to speculate!

Thankfully this, at least, shouldn't be a problem. SE has acknowledged that certain quests - including job quests - will be accessible in Stormblood without having to complete Heavensward MSQ.

Endgame, on the other hand, will likely still be locked away. So you may still burn out, but at least you'll be able to do it while playing as the new jobs!

that's sort of an eastern thing - female martial artists are fighting in robes/dresses, and they make flashy combat scenes centered around extravagant movements "because that's obviously how women dress and fight, using their dresses as weapons and feint-attacks, and make ppl think they are more frail than they are"

If Dancer is identical to Monk, then what's the point of adding it?
ya ppl have been grasping at straws, concerning new jobs, since ARR was released.
So far SMN was a disappointment (Egis) NIN is neither THF nor dodge tank, and DRK wasn't dps.
RDM probably won't be what fans expect, and DNC isn't in the teaser :p
Speculation is fine, except when it makes no sense, which is most of the time when ppl speculate about future jobs.

and folks still think dancer is coming to next expansion :(

Somehow I doubt the Garleans would see people dancing and be like, "Oh, let those crazy kids have their fun." Based on what we've seen, I would assume it's more akin to, "What are you dogs doing dancing instead of working, back to the mines!" followed by beatings and weeping and gnashing of teeth, so on and so forth.
