Wondering When Information on HQ revamp going out

I recall hearing that the system for determining HQ is going to be altered in 1.2 but I'm not sure where that information was and would like a bit of help from the community (or a rep) in rediscovering it again if it's not too much trouble.

Been saving HQ mats for this lol.

Well, Yoshida has given conflicting statements on the topic.

Back in 1.18, he mentioned they'd make it where HQ mats made an HQ end product. But more recently, in one of the 2.0 interviews, I believe he mentioned a two part synth process with an insta-craft option with very low HQ chances and a mini game with HQ crafting in mind.

Would be nice to see some clarification as I've been hanging on to +3 mats myself.

Yes, it would be nice if a community rep could come out on the record to let us know if one of the bombs the devs will be dropping in the following week(s) would be one that touches on this topic.

This is only my guess. People have been asking if there's any quicker ways to go about crafting, namely if you're just trying to skill up. I think the quick method may still HQ if you use all HQ mats, but it's going to take some rng if you're using no or not all HQ mats. Then with the slow method, HQ mats=HQ synth, and if you don't have all HQ mats you can still attempt for a HQ item but you have a little more influence in trying to do so (careful synths, touch ups, etc).

I'm curious how chaotic elementals will ruin said HQ crafting to. I think that's why Yoshi might not be so "If you have HQ, it will come" at this time as we get closer to the reveal.

I also hope HQs get more relevance with the bonuses also applying to the non-materia stats outside of DEF/DMG. Maybe in the future they could even get their own textures (a bit more fancy).

Did anyone get a sense of what will happen to current +1/+2/+3 gear? Will they all get changed to "HQ", or will they be preserved as they are?

Should I be spending this time trying to make +3 gear? Or will it be downgraded upon 1.20?

SE has been mum on that point. From what I last read, I got the sense that only +3 would be HQ. Still, that's only my perception based off tidbits.

"1.21 - Change to synthesis with all HQ ingredients - Adjustment of base value when using HQ ingredients exclusively so players can aim for HQ from an earlier stage"

So if the newest Letter From the Producer is correct...we won't be seeing this revision to HQ% until 1.21?! This saddens me a little with regard to the HQ mats devouring my inventory that I'll have to wait longer until this is finally in.

Well, if you have varying qualities they're at least consolidating them in 1.20.
