Praising the apartments! 3.4 is great! Some feedback and suggestions to consider..

Hey there - I am the self appointed strata president for The Mist, 9th Ward Apartments in Excalibur and there's a few concerns I'd like to address.

First and foremost - the addition to said apartments were great! Thank you for that! It was well needed and takes off a great deal of stress until you're able to open more wards and Ishgard respectively.

Now onto a few concerns and questions.

Concern A) The apartments lack one key thing I feel is needed - and that is a mailbox. While I love how there's a market board and a summoning bell right there, a mailbox would be paramount to anyone who utilizes it as much as I do (and many others given the feedback)

Concern B) A lot of us are in an FC and it's a bit of a wayward situation. Some of the other FCs in the apartments expressed that they would like to be able to operate Airships much like how people who have FC mansions do as well. Is there any plans on incorporating a community workshop that would be instanced to the user and the party members so that they can at least be able to carry on some kind of planning for instance - the Diadem. We actually transferred from one server to Excalibur and that was one main concern of our own we had for ourselves and that was the need to do some exploration and expedition runs. Are there any plans to do something like that to assist those stray FCs without roots to lay down? I feel this would alleviate a lot of headaches for both parties.

Addendum to this - perhaps an option to have penthouses for those FCs? This would solve so many problems and offer a gorgeous view of the city they are living in - the best part? It's super easy to do than taxing your servers with more plots (or so I'd like to believe)

Concern C) A community garden. It would be ideal to have one of these. While we have Chocobo stables (YAY!) we do need to feed, level and color our Chocobos. As with the instancing idea I was mentioning for the airships, would there be any plans for something like that?

Concern D) Guest access - Yes I know it was mentioned that we would not be able to share the room with anyone, but some players who are starting out would benefit being a roommate to one person so they can at least be given time to level, get a feel for the game and be able to properly position themselves. The apartments are great, but they are slowly filling up and this would at least give that player who otherwise can't afford or technically be able to purchase an apartment some kind of base of operation for themselves.

Just an fyi, you can grow chocobo food/treats in your house using the flower pots. In addition the Vath sell chocobo food as well that's actually cheaper than growing your own depending on soil prices. G3 shroud soil avg 9k + krakka at about 3.5k = 12.5k for 18 krakka after 3 days of tending/grow time. That comes out to about 695g per krakka and you're waiting vs 348g for a variety of chocobo food from the vath that you can buy instantly.

Oh neat! Thanks for letting me know, Dusty. Our only concern with this is that we also do a fair bit of cross breeding for plants so we can try to get seeds to grow other materials.

Airships... I miss my airships too. I won't lie =(

Are you asking for widespread drama? So much drama was (and still is) still going on people getting stuff "stolen" out of a community chest (which I won't go into the specifics of what community means since some still don't understand the meaning. Maybe a different time or place) in a FC. I could only see this end in a devastating disaster. Just kill (or catch on fire) this idea now.

Concern D) Change your access to allow people to come in, but no roommates. The places are small enough as it is. If someone wants a "feel" for the game, they can join an FC with a house and pay a lower $300k price for a private room. There is no limitation on getting an FC room except money.

Asking me if I am looking for drama can be considered drama in itself to some, you know. My risks are my own and it's extremely minimal as my FC mates are also my friends and family in the real world. Because people abused privileges, the rest of us are made to suffer for it? The risks are there in the open - I don't need to be "protected" or blanketed because someone else in another FC, in another server made a mistake in judgement.

Nonetheless I appreciate the concern you are directing, but I won't let the potential "what if's" and others experiences change my opinion. Don't punish myself or others like me because of the mishaps of others. That's my risk to take.

I am aware that Square Enix deigned them for individual use. How much change has happened when many are opinionated in the same way? I'm allowed to have my opinion and I'm not alone with them. Weather or not Square Enix listens or considers, that's another story. But for now, just because it's suggested and designed that way now doesn't negate my right to feedback or an opinion on it, thanks.

If you scroll up, I already addressed that, thanks to Dustytome well before you commented in regards to the gardening.

Again, see my first paragraph reply to you in regards to the apartments. To me, it sounds like you're echoing that of the printed restrictions that Square Enix have put into place. With respects to this, and I mean this full well in terms of respects, if you don't agree with me, fine, but please do not base your argument solely on what S-E laid out.

Also, for all intense and purposes, maybe I don't want to join a populated FC with people that I don't know. You propose easier said and even easier done rhetoric, but given your tl;dr reply of what S-E has already said, I've built trust with the people that came over with me and we want to be free in of our own community. Many other communities and FCs like us who don't have a house make do with what we have, and we enjoy doing it. You sort of make it sound like "well too bad, that's how it is, eat your bologna sandwich and smile because you're belly's full" well sooner or later you kind of get sick eating it. You want to do things like mass gardening, design houses, airships and have a hang out spot where you can all craft together and have the same priority - whatever your FC's priority would be. I shouldn't be restricted to at least airship building and deployment just because S-E didn't fully think the housing situation quite properly.

If you read my post initially than just skimming it, you'll see that I was praising the apartments and S-E's effort to Band-Aid it until they get a permanent solution. In the meantime, what's wrong with suggestions? At least if you're going to argue, have some individuality on that subject.

You can put down the white knight shield and stop reading from the manual. Guidelines, manuals, rules and regulations gets changed all the time.

Since it seems so important, I would just like to preface this by saying that I did, in fact, read both your posts in their entirety. I still don’t agree with most of what you said, even if I do not dispute your right to hold or express such opinions (and am just as entitled to hold and express mine as you are yours.) Moving on…

I agree with you on the mailboxes, they are sorely needed and I really hope they get added soon. Anywhere by the MB, lobby, or even as a personal item inside the actual apartments would be most welcome.

I’m not necessarily against having roommates but the rooms really are super tiny and I can’t see two people feasibly sharing the space when for a measly 500,000 people can have one for their own. As for the ‘give a place to people who are too low lvl or broke right now' reasoning: SE has made it very clear that they are going to be constantly expanding the buildings, so it is likely that once they do have the lvl and the money, there will be a place for them either waiting or coming soon. You can't share your lvl 60 gear with someone new to the game or still leveling up so they can 'get a feel for it.'

As saberchic pointed out, apartments weren’t intended for FCs. And there is nothing wrong with that. The point of apartments was to give people an alternative to FC rooms as well take some of the pressure off of the housing crunch. As they are now- sans FCness- they accomplish both those goals perfectly.

If anything, overhauling them so that FCs could purchase them would overtax the housing situation even further. How would that even work, anyway? A FC buys a whole wing? What if 15 rooms aren’t enough? Can they buy up even more space? The ward’s whole building? You can see how this would quickly spiral out of control and, if they are like private homes and a FC could own both a house and apartments, could easily end up making things even worse than they are now.

If I am being completely honest in my opinion (and you already made clear how important it is that people can have opinions,) and I mean this full well in terms of respects, it’s a bit gauche to be constantly asking for more and more things, especially right after receiving a huge upgrade. I’m not saying it’s wrong to ask for things you would like but, on the other hand, there is something to be said for smiling as you eat the bologna and waiting patiently for the steak.

Simply and quickly put - yours is a reply I can both respect and appreciate. Still doesn't mean I entirely agree with you but I certainly see your points. My feedback is not without faults, sure I won't shy away from that. It does leave room opened for discussion on how to improve on it - so yeah, mailboxes because what apartment building doesn't have a mailbox?

I can also rethink the method of the FC and housing issues entirely by touching on each issue as best as I can.

Airships: Okay - not a perfect method to limit them to FCs with houses. But think about it this way: In the way that the apartments exist, what about a separate workshop in the wards where it's instanced to only your FC? Much like the house is with the company, you purchase the space needed to allow your company access to its own workshop. I do feel it can be incorporated the same way we have the rooms in the apartment. But one other question comes to mind and that is "what if you want to buy a house?"

Well, this is where around the time they get things sorted they incorporate the "move" function that was discussed by the higher ups. This function would work in tandem with people who wish to move FC houses as well as the FC leader who wants to just purchase a house for the first time for their group - the workshop would just move along to the house from that point rather than accessing it from the instanced Airship hub.

The same thing can also be said and potentially done for the "public" gardens. Apologies, I clearly misworded it. It could also just be another area that's instanced to FC members only.

The housing in general... the situation still kind of sucks for what it is. The apartments are too new for an FC "wing" or whatever. Introducing the apartments shows that S-E are trying. The other side is that the people who have FC houses who I've spoken to feel that the airships should only be limited to the houses period. it's that sense of entitlement that separates communities and shines them in an elitist light. It also makes me feel that they just lord them over people like us who otherwise don't have the ability to just go out and get a house. I promise I'll get one, and I'll wait as long as it takes in the meantime.

I hate bologna... with a passion. Much like how I hate waiting in general. But I'll still do it. I'll just move to Salami next - the apartments being my salami. With this being said, feedback and suggestions I'm fine with. I'm just as fine if none of the mods or devs take this feedback seriously or even read this at all. I appreciate fully the work and love they put into this game and my dedication since 1.0 should show this. But as a loyal fan, I feel I wouldn't be doing my duty to them as such if I didn't recommend something or anything. No matter who disagrees with me or what feedback isn't taken.

It's nice to have the free option of recommendation. Even if you don't agree with it, it doesn't close the door. It gives you room to capitalize on a revised idea or ideals. Instanced FC Workshops and Gardens aren't out of the question.


FYI - I probably built your shield. Payments are overdue =p

WHile you can grow stuff in your flowerpots, I find it lackluster.

But I can't help but feel saddened by it.




Also, the fact that interacting with your flowerpots only does the generic item use animation...
I miss having the watering can animation, or the pulling weeds animations...

It just leaves me feeling a bit dissapointed.

I'd like SE to reconsider sharing of apartments also. I had hoped that when the patch notes first came out, I'd see it being allowed with at least one person but, nope. While I'm not against the idea of personal airships, I don't think they should be limited to FC only at all. Personal houses should also be allowed to their own workshop. But I'm also for a community airship hub for FC's that otherwise can't get houses and only instanced to said FC members.

I would like to suggest a notice board of some sort for the apartments.


IIRC, when you're in an FC with a stable, when a player cleans the stable or trains a chocobo it's listed in the activity log of the FC.

Apartments don't have that.


I've been feeding the other tennants chocobo's and I don't think anyone even knows.
Just tonight I had to send a tell to one of them to suggest they take their chocobo out to level.

Since, training them won't actually level them up, it'll only provide them exp until they reach the exp till next level.

That's actually a great idea! I thought our FC mates were doing it but it turns out theirs have been getting fed too. I would like to thank whoever in our apartment building has been feeding our bo's. Somehow actually repay their generosity!
