To the developers: Thanks for listening :)

Besides all the new content we're getting on 3.4 when I read the patch notes and saw many features and QoL adjustments the community has been asking for a long time it felt like a love letter telling us "yes, we do listen" and "yes, we do care". Granted, you can't do everything we ask for, and everything at the same time, but this was a strong sign that you do care about our feedback.

In those patch notes I saw many things requested here at the forums at some point. We're finally seeing an option to directly report RMT spam, finally getting our cooldowns reset on wipes, finally getting rid of all the bloat and nonsense of the glamour prisms of different grades on top of the type, added the 1v1 duels that some people have requested for a long time and you implemented it in a way that doesn't break the rest of the game, added LoV to the duty finder and made the matching datacenter-wide, added retainer bells to the Gold Saucer, and a couple other things I may have missed. Some of those features or changes are aimed at larger parts of the community, others for smaller groups who enjoy certain activities, but that doesn't mean it's not important to listen to them too.

But the message is clear, you are indeed listening and doing what you can in due time. I'm aware that you're hard at work not only on these content patches but also on the next expansion, and that not every complain can be addressed swiftly, but for me this patch is a solid message and I wanted to say I'm thankful for all your hard work and that I'm looking forward to all the new content you're working so hard to produce :) Maybe not all that content will cater to me, but I'm aware that I'm not the only one playing (something I wish more people on the forums would figure out) and that you're doing your best to produce content for everybody.

So, TL;DR: Thanks for all your hard work and I'm happy to be part of the Eorzea we're building together :)

I think you vastly misunderstand the de facto purpose of these forums.

You have to cry about what you don't have, or don't like about what you're getting, and especially what you don't understand.
There must be some other place to vent this kind of "appreciative" nonsense. It certainly isn't here.

I agree that having the devs listen and respond with the QoL issues and updates makes me feel better about paying a monthly subscription. Ever since the pre-patch notes came out, I was grinning everytime I got a RMT spam because my worst annoyance is going to be lessened (if the system is enforced). Housing may not be perfect, especially on larger servers, but its getting incrementally better. Cross bars will be dimmed or transparent. Players won't be getting ripped off with 40 different types of glamour on the MB. I'm sure I will be drinking cordials on my mount (huge for me you dont know).

But across the board the game feels clean, bug-free, and presents itself as a professional product. We all know it didnt start that way with FFXIV 1.0 (i never played but I gather second hand from the forums) but the devs should be congratulated for making this a more enjoyable experience for all of us.

This thread's rather the breath of fresh air.

There's a difference between providing criticism and feedback, and just complaining.

And a lot of what's on the forum is sadly the latter.

Feedback is feedback. good or bad SE would rather know than not know, remember that.

Agree with a proviso:
It's how the feedback is given.

Someone can be unhappy with a game characteristic and still put positive adjustments forward.
Too often though, we just see negative troll bait titles like "Why is Yoshi P turning his back on the playerbase that loves this game........"

OP - I'll second this. Updates never give everyone everything they want. The game has such a large geographic playerbase there are bound to be wide differences in wants & needs.

The latest patch is the result of a tremendous amount of work by the development guys, and deserves thanks.

Thing is there is quite a difference between giving feedback and critical reception and just complaining for the sake of complaining. Let alone the typical "the game is dying thread". Complain away if you must, but if the person isn't offering any kind of way to make it better. Then it's just complaining for the sake of complaining..which sadly happens a lot more than I'd like here.

Now the real question is which forums had the most weight, the Western ones, or the Japanese ones ?

This is a generalization. It still stands true that without critical reception that change might not otherwise occur. People will complain about anything just as people will also praise things that should not be praised. I like to comically think of it as White Knights vs Black Knights.

I don't argue there are a lot of complaints but that wasn't always the case. In fact, there was a time (mostly all of 2.0) that most negative threads got bashed to death by "white knights" (i use that as a general term, not an actual thing). The fact that more and more negative threads indicates a trend or possibly a pattern. Now what the trend is is definitely open to interpretation but there are definitely some concrete factors that contributed to the issues we see in the forums and in the game.

I definitely 100% agree with you that people that come on to literally say "xyz sucks cuz it does" are just adding more fodder. In a perfect world the threads would be a bit more consolidated instead of having many people making a thread on the same thing.

Hah that's easy. The Japanese forums will always have more weight cuz JP pride yo! But more seriously, really it has more to do with them keeping things to one thread. It also helps that their population don't have a massive disparity in comparison to to ours. Say the JP community was only 10-15% of the playerbase, maybe then NA would be listened to more. However, I will add that is just an opinion, I have no say on how well they listen to us in particular.

There's no unwritten requisite that every average person must have an establish mutli-paragraph article on how they feel. Complaints carry just as much importance as any other form of feedback; a person is unsatisfied with a product in some manner, demanding they put in the work to tell you extensively why is not how you establish and maintain good business. If they do it, that's great, all the more helpful,but it isn't required and it isn't wasting your time. It isn't always easy for someone to define what they like, quite the fact that typically most folks don't actually know what they want. But it's easy to say what they don't like, and taking that in you inevitably figure out what they can like. And in a manner of balancing interests you weigh what one person doesn't like to what another doesn't and find a compromise that in the end can at least satisfy on average.

For you to complain about people only complaining and belittling their opinion is not only hypocritical but shows that you haven't even the basic understanding of customer service. Every bit of feedback should be considered and never brushed off just because it did not fit how you would do it.

SE decides what is a worth feedback and what it isn't, not us.
But yes, I'm really happy with many things in this patch. There are so many little improvements. :) Absolutely love this game, it's not perfect, but it's a game that I'm not ashamed of putting my time in it to build something.

Offer advice if you will, but you still complained about there being complaining, which at its core is hypocritical. Nothing stopped you from just offering the advice, but you clearly felt to present your own opinion while at the same time brushing offer the opinions of others.

Trust the OF to turn a positive thread about how awesome all the new things are into a discussion where people complain about complaining about complaining...:rolleyes:
