Features of other MMO you would like to see.

First, I'll start with if it is an idea already acknowledged by SE or in the works there is no need to post it again. :D

Anyways, I have been checking out other MMOs, where I love FF14... still lack end game content. I've seen a few features I though would be kind of neat if placed in FF14.

- Duo Content and Instances.
Yes, instances for two people and maybe leves too. I know you can do leves with two people, I mean leves designed to be done by two people. As a married man, I general play FF14, and other MMOs, with my wife and Duo content is very appealing to me. You can't always find a full party to run a instance or something, I think most people can find one other person to go run something.

-Vanity Item slots
These are gear slot that do not effect your stats, purely for looks. You love how you Black Mage Gear looks and hate to replace it? Place it in your vanity slot so you can keep the look but still upgrade with better gear. Gives you more control over your looks without having to sacrifice stats.

WAR's public quest. One of the most innovative things (albeit a small one) I have seen in a long time. Good bit of fun.

NPC events that happen occasionally (daily, weekly, monthly events)

Smoother and cleaner looking UI

Could you guys go into a little detail about some of these ideas? For example, I have not played Eve and have no idea what the contracts are about. Plus, if you give your insight into why this might work FF14, that would be cool.

All of this is good.

Puppet master was less just me wanting my old job back.

Eden eternal has their "Classes/Jobs" set up so that your physical level was the cap that your job level could go. Basically like how the old system was instead of letting each job take abilities from everything else they could only take skills that were in a class spell set and their more defined job set. A tank could only use it's specific abilities the class has and the specific job meaning being incapable of pulling a cure out of your ass. A hunter can't use Scourge because it's in a different ranged dps class pool.

I might be jumping the gun but i'm sure this is not how the new job system is going to work by a long shot since it's only going to restrict you to your specific class skills.

Edit: Most of what RemVye has mentioned as well. I'm iffy on the training dummies since this is a slower versions of WoWs spam you prolly won't get the same results all the time.

EE's system was based around XI's job/subjob change system, the one thing that differentiated it was you could:

Level class 1 - Learn a class trait
Level class 2 - Learn a class trait
Level class 3 and equip trait from class 1 and 2 if you so chose, which was up to 3 I think? Might be different now since I haven't played it since summerish.

All that's really known about the new job system is some will have dual class requirements, like PLD requires Marauder and Gladiator leveled to unlock, but the exp gained as PLD will go towards Gladiator and vice versa, since he mentioned 'job stones' of some type which means it may be the same way as Sentinel is an 'add-on' to Gladiator, Conjurer and Thaumaturge.

A contract is exactly what it sounds like. A player puts up a contract (sell, buy, or courier) for a certain item that is usually rare and can't be found on the market. There's a bit more to it than that, the specifics of which would take me too long to explain. In EVE it's a good way to relieve dumb people of their money.

It would probably be a bit redundant in this game. What would be the point of them in XIV? Courier services aren't really needed because FFXIV has no PVP and as a result any good ol' bear will just carry his stuff himself. Buy/sell contracts would be pointless because the rare stuff can't be traded in any manner. So basically, it would be a different version of the market wards that is easily manipulated.

I'm not sure who suggested this, but it makes no sense.

I love EVE Online. There's no other game like it, but the only thing I could ever see working in XIV is their market system.

I am assuming that rare stuff can be traded. The most powerful(rarest) items such as 5 materia equipment are obtained through the usage of economy, not fighting after all.

I'd love to see a campaign/conquest system brought into the world of XIV (similar to that of XI).

More dynamic content like that of the public quests in WAR, or the Rifts in Rift.
I like the ability for things to change in the world and people band together to fight them off.
I would love to see "living NPCs" in the world of XIV, most NPCs just stand in once place and never move, get tired, go to their homes, etc. While that might cause issues, they could always have a replacement take their shift... Anyway, one of the coolest moments I had in Wow was when I was in a small town and this big monster walks up to the town and all the NPCs and myself start fighting this mob. It really brought a feeling that the world was alive, even though this town gets attacked by this mob pretty often, I thought it was a nice touch. :)

Most the standard features of the MMO world, others have listed them off and I agree they should be added.

Anything and everything from wow should be added.

SWTOR's companion system would be great.

Theres very little that I liked from Wow...

...That being said...

WoW had a massive world event which even had competition (with incentives) between servers.
It would be great to have something in that vein.

Sure. Public quest in WAR were areas on the open map that once you entered (the designated space) a timer would come onto screen letting you know when the next one started or how long the current one was going and what phase it was in. Depending on what part of the world you were in dictated what level the public quest was. So if you were at the start it the level would be like 1-10 (the mobs). If you were in a higher area it would be like 20-30 - so on so forth.

There were typically (if my memory serves me right) three stages. Once you beat the first two phases of monsters the boss mob would appear (it was never just a different colored monster). Once it was defeated a random number generated would roll. Depending on how well you did depended on what bonus you got added to your roll. So say if you killed or damaged the most mobs you'd get like a bonus of 300 will someone who did less might get just 75. This however wasn't a guarantee on the best number because the number generator was randomized as aforementioned.

It was a very innovative thing at the time. You could get some very nice gear for the level of whatever area you were in. Participation was solely up to you. Join in or walk on through. Parties weren't needed. If one was going on just be in the area and fight. It could add some life to the world. It could be advanced and added to the SL of FF14 (basically made better). Would add achievements - new items to get. It would just fit well and was good fun. Take what it was and make it better.

Eh, it was basically Besieged(Campaign) on a more advanced level. While XI's system was tackled on to a core that didn't quite support it fully, WAR made it possible from the ground-up. Either way the roots are in 2006's XI.

I definitely want to see something like that in XIV, but not have the whole game be based around the premise. It could be an expansion's main selling point though, instead of going the same old instances/raids/level cap/new quests route.

Thanks to the people who gave more details, makes the thread more enjoyable when the feature is explained.

The WAR public quests do seem they would be a tons of fun.

Public quests sound awesome and easily fit into FF14 play style. Would be better than running leves all day.
