I am kind of over the whole Loot system, Cast lots, pass, need or greed or what ever and the current drop system is just random and stupid. It always causes countless problems for MMO’s and I feel for a new generation MMO we have out lived this system.
Why not have everything currency options for things like Ifrit and Dungeons, ok chests are alright that's pretty cool but even so.
In FFXI there was all kinds of currency added to the game for types of equipment in all the expansions. They still had a loot system but all the currency stuff was so cool, this was bought from NPC with the currency you earned.
I think FFXIV should have a similar thing but for end game why not just make everything 100% available for everyone but still make it time consuming.
Heres an example: Say your doing Ifrit and you win then you earn an amount of Fire coins that go towards Ifrit gear and weapons they could even make the amount you need an insane amount if they were worried it would be to easy.
This way it's still hard to obtain it's just that you can eventually choose what weapon you want rather then waste your time doing it and wining 50+ times without getting what you want. Those 50+ times could be earning you currency towards something you know 100% you will be able to obtain given you put in the time and effort.
This will also remove all possible issues with people complaining about drops, or it’s not fair I never get the item blah blah blah. It will also stop people from being controleing thinking they own people and have the right to decide who gets what, for what ever reason.
People who desruve the item will earn it with Currency and the people undersurveing will not obtain it. Why should someone who never plays randomly be able to get something out of luck with a loot system but someone who played endlessly with no luck never gets the item it's stupid.
The Currency system also favors people who work and have real life commitments, they can play the game freely at there own pace and earn the equipment as fast or slowly as they want.
Point System = Best Option.

Point is ok but it shouldn't be in everything, it makes the said events repetitive and feels like a chore.
The feeling they should build is like how guildleves are being done, you get faction points as a bonus. When you accumulate enough point, you can attempt faction NMs. When people were doing guildleves, the factions points wasnt the main target (of course there are some people that does it mainly to accumulate points, but definitely not majority), it's something you get as a bonus. -

I just had another idea for NM's and HNM's. Why not have like normal NM drops as they are but have the really good gear earned with something like Bounty points. Coins type thing Lowest lvl NM's could earn you bronze coins mid NM's silver and stronger NM's Gold and HNM's could be like Platnum coins. They could even have a bounty hunt board something like on FF12 type thing, completing bounties could earn currency.
Each type of Coin could go towards gear. All types of coins could be required for the best gear. -

Token systems are okay but sometimes you want loot to come from the hardest mob(s) in the game to bottleneck the content. Skill should always be rewarded.

i'd rather having effort-based system, where you might get what you want over time by just putting effort on it and saving points, than a luck-based system like the ifrit is now or Dynamis was in FFXI. -

I don't see why they couldn't have both... Decent/good gear that can be purchased from our GC's, guilds or specific locations, and then rare drops from NMs bosses and chests.

points are better, if you remember how horrible the loot system in ffxi was there’s no way you want it to be the same for FFXIV, not only did you have to camp a HNM for months or more before seeing the item you need Drop into loot pool but also when it finally did someone else would out lot you or your link shell leader would prohibit you from even casting lot’s, if you did cast lot after being told not to you would just be booted form the party and then no one would play the game with you because it destroys your reputation.
Things like dynamis in ffxi were really really long winded and just painful to even get the equipment you wanted, I Wish it was points when I played ffxi.
I Played it for 7 years and was very well geared it took me about 2 years of that to get my treasure hunter 4 Gloves (AF2 hands) and that was due to Link shell leader Controlling all
Gear distribution and low drop rate. (I personally did Dynamis 2X a week )
My worst experiences with Loot systeam are as followed
Sea, jailor of Love
I killed this thing about 40-50 times with my 1st linkshell which I had been in for a full year before even starting Jailor of love, I watched about 30 Torque’s go to other people Desperately waiting my Turn
And finally after months it was my turn However when the torque dropped for me the leader decided he did not want me to get it and gave it to his friend who was a Dragoon over me their only TH4 thief.
The leader then told me they wouldn’t be doing Sea farming again for 6 months needless to say I told them to f%%k off and left there linkshell.
HNM fafnir
Ok well this one is more about drop rate on FFXi ill admit but it still point’s out why point’s is better
Fafnir camped on and off for 5-6 years saw a total of 13 rdill’s drop all went to other people ether I was outlotted or LS leader gave to someone else if it was point based like u get 500points for every fafnir killed and it was like 1mil points to buy ridill I would have it but I never got that item.
Last one is about KSNM’s
Ok in FFXI there was something called a KSNM where u spend 99 kindrid seals to do a boss fight,
Well linkshell leaders loved this coz it gave them the power to abuse lot system once again.
So There is this KSNM to get a speed belt worth about 50mil on the AH and I tried it about 25 times
Over a long timeframe with my linkshell anyway this once day I went to do it with them and the item finally droped I was so excited but the leader of the linkshell started spraying some ball crap about the linkshell take’s the speed belts for linkshell bank to fund people relic weapons I was really pissed off all that time I lotted it anyway because it rightfully mine but they just booted me and took it anyway, let me tell you loot system is not fun.
Also just incase anyone says linkshells need funding for relics that’s no excuse because its my hard earned item I played my seals and the leader’s had no intention to fund me a relic only themselves ….as if leaders don’t get enough from there members. -

I would like a points system, but to be a bit more in depth how about having a final fantasy 12 style system with bounties. They could easily incorporate bounties into leves.
It would be a lot of fun.

it be boring due to the fact that it just coins how would a linkshell work with this type of system? you wont even need a linkshell you just do it and everyone get a set amount of coins i guess that ok with casual but i agree with what someone said it should not be for everything maybe only for bcnm type events.

Can has a mix of both? Multiple systems, none particularly dominating the entire field of gameplay or design space? Although, uh, I do really love currency-based systems.
Alternately - and say what you will about the rest of Abyssea, love it or hate it - the system of "obtain eight/ten/whatever items, each with an individually high drop rate, from a set of NMs, and then exchange those items for equipment" does a pretty good job of balancing a sense of consistent reward against saturation of content. -

Special loot consist of ingredents for crafters to make high quality gear and weapons. Look again at the FFXIV logo, the illustration of every class revolving around laborers and crafters. Without them there wouldn't be any fighters or mages. -

Currency every time, yes it does get a little repetitive but its so much much better when you can buy the item you "actually" want and not some random piece of crap you will never use.
That being said they need to make U/U gear worth a damn before I even care.
