Foresight is trash

Played DRK and PLD to 60 and have done some raids with it and just picked up WAR recently. I must say, Foresight is really bad and nearly useless. It's been calculated that it reduces damage taken from Physical Damage by ~5-7% depending on defense level. So given that Rampart/Bulwark/Shadow Wall etc last for about the same duration as Foresight, and reduce damage to BOTH Physical and Magical by a fixed %, Foresight should be buffed to be more useful. Since it's a buff that ONLY works against Physical Damage, couldn't it be a flat damage reduction to just physical damage? Even if it was -10% Physical Damage Taken it would be great. Or, to prevent it from being overpowered when used as a Cross-Class, give WAR a trait that makes it -10% Physical Damage Taken only in Defiance? As is, it's pretty pointless as a skill and I think since it only boosts defense against one type of damage, it's extremely weak. Other tank skills block both types, and for a much higher value. A skill that only blocks one type of damage should block that damage to a decent degree (see DRK'sDark Mind).

Foresight scales with gear (specifically your phys. def), so currently it actually mitigates more than 5-7% and it's more around what you want to boost it to - 10%.

It's main use is smoothing out autos, which it does well. It could be better, obv, but none of the tanks really need a stronger defensive CD atm (especially not WAR).

I think Foresight's tooltip is incredibly misleading, but the skill itself is fine. It's far better now than it was in 2.x, because we have far more P.DEF for Foresight to work with. I find it works decently for Brobinyak and other strictly physical mobs.

We have more physical def than in 2.0 but the mobs also have more AP which means that it cancels it out. In fact, in 2.4 with i130 gear, Foresight did mitigate more damage than in 3.0 with i210 gear. It's just like other stats, we have more crit than before but our %crit rate didn't increase at all. We just levelled up so the scaling changed. We now need more crit than what we needed at level 50 to reach the same %crit rate.

Bulwark doesn't reduce magic damage btw OP. Shields can't block fireballs except in Twintania and misleading trailers (also I think a couple dragons have blockable breath attacks but for the most part you get what I am saying right let's keep this sentence going for a few more words my friend)

doesnt it give a trait to war to make it increase m def as well? but only on warrior. the cd is trash compared to things like provoke, convalesence, awareness now even, but thats how cross class skills in general are in this game. its not a must have for either tank, it may make auto attack padding better. But ill tell you what is a crap cross class skill for tanks:savage blade and skull sunder cross classible and not even comboable to do what theyre supposed to. The only time i used either was on a lancer trying to tank for 3 other dps, while i was levelling dragoon.

Everything else scales too, and no it's about 7%. Don't just make up stuff to make it look better.

Also this goes back to "you can't balance things just by looking at individual abilities". Yes, it's not great, but it's available on every tank and it's a level 2 skill. And WAR as a total package is OP, so boosting a skill just because that 1 skill doesn't do much just makes the whole package more OP. Balance has to look at all the job's abilities.

All silliness aside, I kinda agree. It really isn't that great of a skill. It'll smooth out incoming damage some, and is more reliable than some other cooldowns for physical mitigation, but in general it's just kinda lackluster. I still take it because it's a defensive cooldown, and its cooldown lines up pretty well with some other abilities', but I wouldn't mind if they swapped it for something better.

Well foresight isn't really comparable to rampart/sentinel or shadow skin/wall, but war also has thrill and vengeance for the bigger mitigations (and IB too but that comes as a package with defiance). For extra physical mitigation war also has raw intuition, and as many have said, war is already in a better place than the other two tanks, so if you boost foresight by class trait, you're just pushing the gap bigger.

It's true that foresight is lackluster compared to the bigger cds (thrill/venge, rampart/sentinel etc), but I don't think it was meant to be (or should be) comparable to them.

So much outdated and inaccurate information in this thread... The defensive reduction formula looks like rawdmg*(1-0.0001725*defense) Source. With base i240 defense on tank of 2236, with protect you go up to 2571, and with foresight up to 3085. 1000 raw damage (how much you'd take naked with no cds), will hit a tank with protect for ~556.5 damage, while protect+foresight would be ~467.8. That's a 16% damage reduction. If we assume the defense values will scale the same way they have for the last 40 ilvls, at 270 foresight will be approximately 17%.

edit: The 5-7% values were based off 3.0 launch gear of i160-180, where defense values were much lower.

At i239 (all pieces with defence are i240) without Protect, I take 444-487 damage with Foresight and 498-550 damage without it from the level 60 Sphinxes in Azys Lla. That's about 11%-12% physical damage reduction. Not amazing, but it's still pretty decent. Foresight isn't bad.

Foresight isn't bad, and tbh, I pretty much keep it on CD in raid if I do any main-tanking and ALWAYS throw it up when I'm tanking adds. Its not in a terrible place, and its stupid to not use it....

I use it with my pld like this, bulwark+awareness+foresight=equals great mitigation!

And because of this i assume it will get nerfed/changed in future, atm it keeps getting stronger and stronger everytime ilvl goes up.

Probably they'll just rescale the formula when we get the next expansion, just like the relation between gcd and skill/spell speed.

I tested it on some of those rook enemies outside Azys Lla, it's calculated after protect (So test it with that), and the enemy did about 15-17% less damage. Note these are just my personal tests, I encourage anyone around 230 to go try as well.
