Palace of the Dead still needs to be tweeked

Three times in two days, I've had someone bail at Edda so they wouldn't have to do 41-50 all over again, and in luckily, we've been able to make it, but it puts everyone in a very precarious predicament when someone leaves like that. The first two times we had someone come in at the last minute and we were fine, but this time we only had like 10 minutes left and couldn't risk waiting around so we went for it. One DPS went down, then I went down and the PLD finished her off with 100 hp left.

As much as I hate this guy for ditching, I honestly don't blame him. There's just too much range surrounding those silver chests and having to repeat 1-40 again to get back to where you were is a whole lot of work. So, I propose this.

Get rid of the gear syncing and level to floor correlation and just make the RNG a flat rate. You might have some chests not upgrade at lower levels, but you'll have a much better chance of them upgrading at the higher levels, which is causing a lot of frustration. Also, have an automatic upgrade at every boss. This will assuredly stop people from bailing because they don't want to repeat 1-40.

All they really needed to do here (if they don't want to make it any easier on us to upgrade) is have made it an option so that you don't have to save your progress at the end after you complete the run. If they had made it like this from the start, people would still (rightfully) be considered dicks for bailing like that. As the way the system is now though, where you can still easily have a crap 41-49 run and not feel like completing it because you would have to repeat 40 less worthwhile floors again, I really can't fault people for bailing. Yes, there's the whole "d/c yourself for 10 minutes" trick, but that's more of an exploit than anything else, and the game never actually tells you you can do that, so many people still don't know you can do it.

The problem is, even if they make that change now, there will be people that are used to the way it is now and will keep leaving before floor 50 out of sheer habit. It's like changing a dialog "yes/no" option's default choice a year after it was a certain way before. Even if it becomes more intuitive, you will upset some people by doing it because they had gotten used to their muscle memory by that point.

I would rather all bosses give upgrades, scaling up with Edda giving 2+/2+, as the current reward set gives a high amount of exp or Lore tomes for the amount of work put forth for every round.

I had to do about 4 full runs, and 5 partials ranging from 10 to 30 floors for my only Padjali weapon as the RNG was cruel. Despite that, it's such easy content that I can quickly hop in on any role that I didn't mind doing it. I capped lore for the first time in there.

They will have to change this for the further levels which are going to get harder and harder.
If people are bailing now because they don't want to run through easy floors again, imagine the reaction to getting nearly nothing and having to run through 49 escalating difficulty ones for another chance at getting nearly nothing.

If it's not changed expect a major increase in bailing on future levels.

I've said this before:

- Further levels should be added to the Duty Finder as it's more than likely a standard group format will be needed.
- The one fail wipe mechanic should be changed for higher levels - make this more in line with standard dungeons, or at least let the party have one more go before kicking the whole lot out.
- Bosses should give a higher reward at later levels to discourage players from bailing
-> or remove the rng from higher levels so all party members are rewarded equally.

That person is a moron for not killing Edda. He threw away his potsherd and +1/+1. The lower levels are not a drought of silver chests til 41-50 anymore. In fact, I got from 30/27 to 30/30 in 3 floors on 11-20 just yesterday. Those people are morons for ditching, and wasting their own time. 1-10 is way faster and just as likely to upgrade them as doing 41-50 again.

No way, that would churn out weapons so fast! I've gotten 3 already, and I really only casually do it a couple times a day (sometimes up to 4, but that's sets of floors, not 4 complete 1-50 clears).

entered a 41-50 and only just three dps, cleared it just fine with 20 min to spare. I agree by edda it probably could be 2.2 im on my 4th weapon though, took 7 runs to get my first weapon, the other 2 less that 5 runs each, As annoying as it can be, ive been casually doing the 3.0 relic since release, and using my zeta to skip the first step. Casually, im on the 240 part, but still need probably 20 more umbrites, im on my 4th aetherpool weapon, and its only 5 i levels lower...so..yeah. The RNG is bad but the grinding factor to get it isnt so bad, compared to relic or nidhogg ex weapon.

agreed 100%

silver chests although more abundant at lower lvs is no way a guarantee of upgrade. also i have ran floors 41-50 and at times have seen 0 silver chests, not one even appear. thats sickening.

always relying on rng is the bad thing and se obsession, some will indeed see many upgrades most runs and others cursed with so few to none for the majority of their runs, one guaranteed upgrade/set of floors is not a lot to ask at all.

Just because you can get upgrades on earlier floors now doesn't mean you usually will.

I still throw away dud 41-49 runs. Why settle for just a +1/+1 on the last boss when you can get a good upgrade run AND the +1/+1?

Whilst I don't agree with bailing, it's no surprise to still see it happening.

I guess the chance of having an upgrade on lower floors is still higher than the chance of founding a silver chest, which doesnt explode or be a mimic (especially on higher floors).

I got 4 upgrades (26->29 and 26->27) within the first 20 floors (from 15 silver chests). But for the last 10 floors, i got only 2 upgrades from the last boss. The 4 silver chests from floor 41-50 were 2 mimics and 2 exploding traps.

I dont even understand that gold chests are so easy to find, while silver and bronze chests are very rare. Why is silver so rare, when gold is not? It must be the opposite, right?

I believe every boss should give at least a silver chest with one guaranteed upgrade, a +1/+1 would be better, but at least you would get an upgrade for doing bosses again.

I don't just leave the group, because I know about the logout trick.

But I am not one bit surprised to see people that either don't know about the logout trick, or know about the logout trick but aren't willing to stay logged out for 10 minutes until the instance closes.

Which is about the same rate I was doing it, and look, first weapon 2 days ago. I'm just suggesting a way to take away so much reliance on RNG so players aren't put in the position of abandoning a team being their better option.

Well, Edda would only be 2+/2+, the rest of the early bosses would 1+/1+.

Also, in all those runs I did, I saw one potsherd from a bronze, but bronze are so unreliable that I had multible groups skip them.

I love how everyone thinks they "deserve" to get +1/+1 on every boss, and even +2/+2 on Edda. Amazing. Look, it's NOT that bad, it's one of the fastest weapon grinds, and even better because, if you have them you can level your lower level jobs with almost no effort. You can get the basics down of most jobs while leveling them too. It is not a difficult dungeon, tho it can suck sometimes. RNG in this particular case is not the devil. If they guaranteed upgrades on every floor and increased the silver chest rate, then people would be done with POTD in a week or so. THAT is poor design, and goes against all the complaints of "Quit making content that gets ignored in a week." a la Diadem.

I didn't bail, but now I'm at 30/29 and have to run the whole thing all over again.

I decided to have a try at doing Floors 1-10 to see if I can get lucky at getting that very last upgrade. I was also at 30 arm 29 armor.

I got it after three runs of 1-10.

Still, I believe this place could still use some tweaks. I am still finding it hard to believe that they actually upped the percentage that silver chests would have a higher chance of upgrading your armor when they made an update on a 25 July hotfix.

You guys know if you get an unpgrade you can't leave or it resets; it's obvious they're gonna leave and do 41-50 again to get more upgrades. :P

Not to mention that if you do the full run you get the V materia to upgrade other pieces as well. I got my two weapons I wanted and by the time I was done I had 8 V pieces that looked real nice as an upgrade for the weapons and some other pieces. People however will nevr be satisfied. The age old half full or half empty

I'm honestly okay with PotD the way it is now. Even if I'm not convinced that they made changes to the chances of silver chests actually giving you that +1 instead of blowing up in your face/not changing/turning into a Mimic.

It seems like (to me) that going through Floors 1-10 repeatedly for the last few of your upgrades is easier to do than having to climb 40 floors again to do 41-50. Again. Where I've found that most of those silver chests just explode in your face, anyway.

Well, I've seen many 41-49 runs where no one got upgrades because they either all exploded, were mimics or silver chests didn't appear. You could very well get a worse run or even worse, get all your upgrades and then wipe on the 49th floor because some dipshit drg facepulled, triggered a lure, brought them to you guys and stepped on a mine (I've seen that happen). The courteous thing to do is just chalk up the loss and settle for the +1/+1, not be a dick and ditch the party putting them at risk of wiping at Edda. Players with your kind of attitude affect other players negatively, and you need to realize that.

It was made possible after the patch that boosted the odds. Still RNG no matter how you slice it, but it makes starting over less of a chore.
