(Spoiler) Got the mount from Palace of the Dead...

and I have to say I'm a bit disappointing with the Disembodied head.. Not by the design or anything, but the sound it makes when it's summoned is just the Ahriman sound, and it plays the same music. I was really thinking it would play the music from the 50th floor.

Did anyone else expect more or am I just whining?

Nope, I expected exactly that.

It's pretty much just a reskin. Had two people ride them next to each other. The animations are the same too.

They do change mount music at times though
It could very well end up being the boss music from tam tara hm or floor 50, or something creepy in general over time. You never know.

I just don't know why they don't think of using appropriate music for new mounts in the first place since every time a new mount is released the community asks for the mount to play music from related content.

I can see why maybe they wouldn't have done so with earlier mounts, but this is something that should be common practice by now for the devs and for whatever reason it isn't.

It's like when they used to release event gear and then only make it armoirable in a later patch. Now it's common practice for event gear to be armoirable as soon as it is released.

They need to learn their lesson about mount music now too :P

I didn't expect anything more but I'd like it to be something more. Seems very lazy to simply reskin the Ahriman and play the same music for something that's supposed to be a completely different mount.

Palace of the Dead overall was lazily done and basically has the bare minimum stuff required to be called complete. Even the weapon rewards are just already existing models with the textures taken away and a cheap glow added.

I mean the Bennu is a reskin of the Zu mount, The Red Fenrir will be a reskin of the Fenrir why are you people not surprised? I personally like the mount it's interesting looking the most unique mount i've seen so far is the Fat Moogle and it's badass. I guess SE wants to keep the cool mounts to the Mog Station and the reskins/tedious ones to get through their new content that is tedious to begin with.

some research helps before hand. Saw what it was and does over a week ago and saved myself all the potsherds. Don't need another crap mount I will never use so I got a bunch of T5 materia instead.

Disappointed because it's just copycat of Ahriman, and Ahriman > PotD mount

I like the mount, think it might be better if it's color like the original one but lore reasons oh well.

But yes, I do agree that SE should start assigning unique-related BGM to special mounts on release as well.

This is another level of laziness. All they did to this mount was to just copy paste the texture they already had into the Ahriman mount then. Thats 10 minutes of work... 9 of which is the texture copypaste process.

And there is people defending this, amazing.

Normally I'm not appriciate the re-skin but I like the head because it has no legs..
Also agreed on mount!'s bgm though.
I don't expect it to be edda's fight bgm but at least it shouldn't be ARR mount bgm eithe.

I still want that red Fenrir whenever it gets released..but yeah sadly they missed a big chance with this one all the same lol

worst example are

Unicorn, Nightmare, Aithon, Enbarr, Boreas, Gullfaxi, Xanthos, Markab, Pegasus, Flame Warsteed, Storm Warsteed and Serpent Warsteed are all the same model just reskinned.
Fat Chocobo, Parade Chocobo and Original Fat Chocobo (the white one)
Coeurl and War Panther
Twintania, Wyvern, Zu and Bennu are also all the same model
Logistics System and Aerodynamics System...

and the List goes on with Primal Birds, Chocobos, Magitek Armors, the Gobbue...


to the part of defending it:
i rather get a reskinned mount than no mount at all. i pay around 13€ a month, i have no idea how much i can expect to get for that money, but i think i get a lot. when i would pay more then i would complain about the reskins.

another story is indeed the Palace of the Dead Mount because it is a reskin from a mount wich is not free available in the game. it is part of the rewards for paying the subscription for a while. okay, you get it right at the beginning, but that is not the point. The point is i got a reward for being a long time customer and now everyone can get not the same - but a very similiar mount who is NOT a long time customer.

i feel betrayed for any stuff i payed extra money for and are now reskinned for free in the game.
examples are the Coeurl and Fat Chocobo. I payed extra for the collectors edition and now you can get the War Panther and the Parade Chocobo - wich are just reskins - for free in the game. Same with the Twintania mount. Okay, someone other payed for it, but SE got money for it. And then they put a reskin, the Wyvern, for free into the game.

The ponies are fair enough, they're reskins but they all have different special effects, different colours and different music so they're worth having each one. This however is simply a reskin and that's it.

I've noticed this too with every other enemy (Gobbue and Yeti, Kobold and Boogie Man to add couple), but this is something done in nearly ALL other jrps. I've played Tales of, Valkyrie Profile, and Star Ocean using reskins and palette-swaps with their enemies, too. It seems to be a "tradition" in making jrpgs, than something to be angry with FFXIV about specifically. What I will say about the mount, however, is that it's unfinished. Not only is it just the Tam Tara Deepcroft (HM) boss, but there's barely any color to it. I haven't unlocked it yet, but if it's really using old mount music too, then that's another disappointment.

I got it and was disappointed, should have got 10 materia instead.

Literally was 10 minutes of work, model and texture already exist from tam hard mode, would have taken another minute to change the music.

It really sucks it doesn't have the music, reskins i can deal with but they should know by now we love music so make it common to have unique music for them surely it's not that resource intensive.

This. And so long as the "new content" that's just not more dungeons and raids is only added in "catch-up patches" and doesn't sit alongside tomes / raids as a true horizontal progression option, we will continue to get uninspired content like Diadem and PotD only as a thoughtless means to get us ready for the next "real" patch.

It will most likely be a mog station item.

The pegasus is already in the game, you have to complete 2000 mentor roulettes. It is a 2 seater mount.

PoD was really lazy and incomplete type of content. Has this Diadem laziness going on it. The rewards were also lazy. The mount is not very nice as well. We got hyped about the "randomness" of this dungeon but it turned out pretty boring. Ever since they decided to swift away from the 3 dungeons per patch and try create new type of content they failed. The patches became a bit lazy. The only exception was the Weeping City. That was well done.

Considering we just gotten the fat moogle mount on the cash shop, it doesn't seem likely we'd get the red fenrir mount there so soon unless it was many months down the line.

Red Fenrir will have flame instead of Ice.I believe.

Who knows, it is just a recolor like the Bennu mount and it is on the mog station.

I know, but the timing is the question. Usually, we don't get mounts on the cash shops one after the other from what I have observed.

I really wish they had coloured it. It looks incomplete. Like an empty colouring book page. Its all blank. Why?

It was supposed to emulate/ recreate the guardian statues in Amdapor so that the Padjals could better understand them. But yeah, I don't know why but I thought there'll be a slight glow.
