Where he be? sorta spoilery

Being hopeful here, with the story moving to East shroud, the shroud in general as we go into 4.0 i believe, i'm still wondering where on earth the serpent grand marshal is. We have seen the immortal flames one during 2.x and played a pretty huge role in the story, and as did the maelstrom one with the whole levi questline and currently hullbreaker hm.

Yeah, I'd like to know what happened to him, too. I know he was seen in 1.0, but 2.0 and beyond he's never seen or mentioned.

I don't think he's dead or else it should have been mentioned in the GC chain of command chart. Even Roaille had some dialogue prior to the revelation.

But yeah, I would love to see more of him and his interactions between Kan-E-Senna. Even Heuloix and her body guards have screentime. A shame, since he does look like a hardened war vet.

Grand Serpent Marshal Swethryk Brookstone is entirely absent from ARR.

Grand Marshal Brookstone isn't the only Gridanian npc from 1.0 MIA - has anyone seen Swethyna, the commander of the Wood Wailers lately?

She appeared quite frequently during the 1.0 Gridanian storyline, personally leading the Wood Wailers on multiple occasions as the LNC counterpart to Bowlord Lewin. Now however, post Calamity in the ARR Gridania storyline and after, Lewin appears frequently.... yet Swethyna is conspicuously absent - she's not even mentioned anywhere in ARR as far as I'm aware, let alone physically appears, other than appearing out of game next to Lewin in this Gridania propaganda artwork for ARR (she's the masked LNC in the light purple armour next to Lewin in the top left corner).

Other than that, I am completely unaware of her appearing anywhere in ARR at all. So what happened to her?

Maybe, just maybe Bahamut's rampage altered things on a quantum level? That the Asican Rejoinings can remove people from reality on the "prime" timeline? Maybe Gridania was so closely tied to whatever fragment was destroyed that the Calamity retconned out these people?

...or we just haven't had reason to meet these people directly yet?

Unlike Brookstone, Swethyna's NPC data does still exist, but I can't find it being used anywhere, yet.

I wonder if they're both involved in whatever is going on in the Western Shroud. There was some mention of an offensive going on there in the Gridanian storyline, I recall.

Well, Raubahn has some (massive) story significance beyond being the Grand Flame Marshall, and the Grand Storm Marshal didn't appear until the Leviathan storyline but has since appeared fairly frequently as a side-character, so both of them have had reason to appear in the story. Perhaps they just haven't had a good enough reason to introduce the Grand Serpent Marshall in the Main Scenario yet? As we are heading to Ala Mhigo (most likely) then I could get behind what PArcher said (I never started a Gridanian Adventurer, so I don't know the story enough to confirm that).

Raubahn isn't the Flame Marshall though, Roaille was. And now I think Pipin is.

Umm, I never said he was. And I believe Pipin ceded the position back to Raubahn after he was cleared of all charges following the Sultana's return.

Well Raubahn is flame high commander which is above flame grand marshal Roaille, Pipin is field marshal which is one below grand marshal

I realize my mistake i wrote Storm, I meant Flame, i fixed it in my text, though you still quoted me, T.T . Raubahn isn't the Flame Marshal he's the commander.

and as for Pipin if Roaille wasn't replaced, regardless of Pipin getting a promotion or not, he'd be the next in charge after Raubahn.

Maybe he's the NPC at the extra 3.2 cutscene where he approaches the mask on the table, popular opinion says it could be illberd, but this guy would make for an interesting twist.

Raubahn is Flame General. I think Swift is High Commander. Of course, we're probably not going to get anywhere near those ranks until 5.0 at earliest.

I could've sworn he was present when you first meet with Merlwyb during the lvl 15 quest that unlocks the airship. Because Roaille defenitely was there when you first meet Raubahn the same way

He was! As was the gentleman in charge of the Yellow Jackets (name has left me, but you can find him in the Marauders guide on the balcony watching the initiates). I forgot all about that.

That makes the absence of these high ranking Serpent soldiers even stranger. You'd think one would at least get a name drop, especially now seeing that Kann-e is now making pilgrimages to the Churning Mists Moogles for good will relations, and complete command would be given to him while she was gone.

Yet, nothing.

Guessing they are involved in the whole "white wolf" operation Kann-e-Senna covertly name dropped to the other GC leaders that one time. We'll probably see them make an appearance when we start focusing on the Garleans in the Shroud and heading east.

This smells of Ala Mhigo. Not game wise, but the writers are still fleshing it out for these characters.

I don't know if anyone pointed it already but he has an entry in the upcoming Lorebook, so he's not forgotten. I can't find the pic right now since I'm at work, but I'm 100% sure about it and it's an updated 2.0 model.

Not sure if it connected,but the Adders have a "white wolf"division. Although they seem to be made up of novice/new recruits

Don't forget the gates leading out of the city are named for divisions of the Twin Adders; Blue Badger Gate leads to the Jadeite Thick (Central Shroud), White Wolf Gate leads to Sorrel Haven (also C Shroud), Yellow Serpent Gate exits to Treespeak (North Shroud), and while we can't access it, Black Boar Gate, by the Lancer Guild, leads (presumably) to the East Shroud somewhere (assuming this because the guard tells you to take the ferry there instead. Probably will be an avenue to get to Ala Mihgo soon). Red Otter Gate isn't in any part of Gridania we can access right now; I assume its in the inaccessible (to quote the guard telling you off) "distinguished Gridanians" district

That would be a retcon though, as the gate naming theme in Gridania preceded the introduction of the Grand Companies into the game in 1.0 (the gate names were there from the very beginning under the Tanaka-era development team and original storyline, sans the Yellow Serpent gate which didn't actually exist, where as the Grand Companies including the Order of the Twin Adder were only added after Yoshi took over and re-purposed the storyline into the 7th Umbral Era story). Originally, it seemed the gates were actually thinly veiled references to the traditional FF mage Jobs (which also did not exist at the very beginning - Jobs were only added into 1.0 with the 1.22 patch): Black Boar Gate=Black Mage, White Wolf Gate=White Mage, Red Otter Gate=Red Mage and Blue Badger Gate=Blue Mage.

As mentioned before the Yellow Serpent Gate did not exist in 1.0, the physical location where it's now located was actually the zone line to the Market Ward (where retainers had bazaars) and the entrance to the Ashcrown Consortium's headquarters and did not lead out of the city into the North Shroud. Either way, the fact that the gates' names now do line up with the divisions of the Twin Adder is more coincidence to me at least and probably a retcon at the most. So don't think too much into it. ;)

Swethryk (42) is still Grand Serpent Marshal; he was once captain of the Wood Wailers, but lost an eye in battle with the Ixal after taking a blow meant for one of his men. He worked with the Lancers' Guild for a while after that, but was tapped for leadership when the Grand Companies were reformed due to his experience in the ways of war.

His younger sister Swethyna (37) took over his position in the Wailers 15 years ago and constantly strives to push her limits. She and O-App-Pesi are the same age and remain good friends.

I don't remember seeing a Swethyna during the Lancer quests. (though it has been two years)

When I was trying to map the guild leadership (both 1.0 and ARR), a pattern made itself rather apparent: guilds just happen to be where they are.

Who runs the "classroom" (guild) may or may not be affiliated who owns the establishment (or even who manages its non-guild activities).

In 1.0, Faustigeant was the ALC guildmaster, but Eolande Quiveron was the owner and director and sat on the Syndicate. Serendipity runs the guild at Eshtaime's Lapidaries, but it and Eshtaime's Aesthetics are owned by Lolorito (and maybe managed by someone between the two, at that, considering how many pies Lolorito's got his fingers in). The Maelstrom just moved the Marauders' Guild entirely and took it over.

Swethyna probably heads the Wood Wailers, but has nothing to do with the Lancers Guild, which just happens to be stationed at the Wailing Barracks to train both future wailers and adventurers who would might help the guild (and the Wailers) in exchange for lessons.
