There comes a point in your meeting with him when he "eagerly" asks the main character to have a drink with him. The MC hesitates, but then agrees. Its rather interesting to see that hesitation from the MC, after giving stoic nods 90% of the time.

I was usually not too much into the Aymeric romance element. But after the vibe I got from that scene, I started to think there might be something there.

Hope is like also 12 or something in the first one; it'd be a little....weird... if he was a romantic option for Lightning

either way let people pretend to date the hot Elezen man if they want.

Although I don't really agree with cheesy relationship or a John Green/Nicholas Sparks (god forbid) romance plot between Aymeric and WoL. More like a tension.

People interpret that scene and the reaction differently, it seems.

The journal states you were still reeling from the "loss" of Minfillia, and wondered whether a drink was worth it given the circumstances.

You thought it was your character considering a potential date, with a Ishgardian that would be a fine catch for anyone, highborn or lowborn.

I thought it was my character, for a moment, seriously regretting her fame as she's dragged again into a "drink" with a head of state, only to accept it to maintain the WoL image.

Aymeric de Borel had same kind sibling like relationship Haurchefant. Square Enix really good at this as american we really bad at make these relationship to romantic without realize that we push it beyond anything that was there

I won't spoil Lightning Returns but there is so many symbols and allusions and a lot of the extra material/novels supports them as being more than friends, being partners. Note you can be partners without doing anything "sexual." And Hope isn't 12 at the end of LR....

Anytime someone invites the WoL to a drink bad shit goes down.

Leaders get murdered(?).
Protestors get shot.
Envoys get stabbed.
Ambush ruins the party.

Of course the WoL would hesitate about accepting the offer of a drink. We have a very bad track record when it comes to that stuff.

Yeah... personally I find it very difficult to see any romantic relationship between the WOL and any other NPC. The WOL is "the Hero"/ "the Tool" and everyone feels indebted to you (especially Ayemeric), so you are always put in this pedestal... The only character I never really felt this distance was with Haurchefant. Maybe Alphinaud will eventually be like him as well (although i'm still somewhat bitter that he seems to care more about Estinient than the WOL, but i think he did say or hint somewhere he doesn't really worry about you because you are warrior of warriors and you have never failed before kind of thing.)

I could go on onto my personal perception of the very akward scene between Ayemeric and the WOL but that would be awfully long winded.

I sense that the OP has some confused feelings about aymeric and thus had to come to the forums to announce he is straight.

No i sense Cabalabob has confusing understand human relationship that he come to said he isn't straight. first I am christian and since understand thing like david and jonathan of bible. the fact David had 4 wives might explain alot to some folks. second that people through history both men and women have had friend that the consider as close as blood without having to be sexuality relationship. the fact people often run away think relationship the are between men and woman have sexuality of any kind make people stupid. sadly this what culture foolishness done to are world alot time i seen people on facebook think lightning and hope are romanticly involve which doesn't show any of games. it just resent time we run away think a close friendship has to sexuality in nature i blame Hollywood for that.

i bet more Aymeric de borel more romantic interest in Lucia. seem to me first time we came to Ishgard you could see that.

There is quite a bit of ship teasing between Aymeric and Lucia, but my take is more of less how Savagelf sees it.

Aymeric deeply appreciates how much you've worked to better Ishgard. Without much reason beyond the goodness of your heart, you've done everything in your power to aid the city in resolving the Dragonsong war and expelling corruption within.


So yes, the least he can do is buy us a drink!


Hauchefant, on the other hand, had bits of dialogue between the different languages that indicate he was totally into you. It's actually LESS obvious in English!

As much as it breaks my heart, I agree with OP that Ser Aymeric is not into the Warrior of Light... *sheds a single gay tear* ...but that's because Ser Aymeric only has eyes for Estinien.

I...tend to agree with this.

If this thread shows anything it is that you cannot really "kill" peoples player relationship with Aymeric or any NPC really.

It's a role playing game and our characters are supposed to be "us" so people are going to interpret whatever they want to interpret with the characters involved.

When they leave the relationships partially open to interpretation then everyone sees what they want to see so for each of our characters a story might be playing out a bit differently with how close we are with certain NPCs or if our character maybe secretly despises one of them but acts kindly on the outside (like I see my character's eyes rolling whenever Tataru shows up...lol). Kinda all our own choices :)

So one player might interpret Minfilia's high amiability and closeness as possible romantic interest for their character. Another player interprets Haurchefant's very excited behavior towards them as a bromance and another sees Aymeric's quiet admiration of the main character as secret attraction. To each their own! xD

i think what this thread show more that people have different view on how character in ffxiv are i like see aymeric more as a brother like character to warrior of light other have other view on him.

Honestly OP, you can't be a "killjoy" since people are going to think what they want about Aymeric, especially since nothing is confirmed in game

It's fine if you see him as a brother. It's also fine if I want to just...touch his face in every cutscene.

Is this guy seriously attempting to use the bible to try and squash people´s fan pairings on a videogame?

Aside from Haurchefant (In the Japanese version, he openly flirts with the Warrior of Light, in the Western version he is more like a fanboy then a potential love interesst.) and some minor npcs (like the Mi'qotes at the spa), none act in a romantic way. I like Aymeric aswell, but as someone who has seen the cutscenes with both females and males, its very evident that to Aymeric, the Warrior of Light is a friend, one who he can depend on. When Aymeric invites you for a drink, its more like two mates who fought toghter side by side and at the end of their duty, they deicide to go to a pub and have a drink.

As far as I can see, the only cannon romantic partner for the Warrior of Light is another (player) Warrior of Light, the npc act in a casual non romantic way towards the Warrior of Light. There are ships in the game, but unless you are roleplaying, its only npc.

An example:

1. Gaius van Baelsar and Livia sas Junius. We know that Livia was in love with Gaius, but we have no clue if he felt the same way.
2. Tataru and Wedge. Wedge is smitten with Tataru. Tataru is too serious to think about romance, but who knows, maybe one day they will be a couple. (those two remind me of Happy and Carla from Fairy Tail)
3. Aymeric de Borel and Lucia. We have no clue if Aymeric is dating anybody, be he is known in Ishgard for being a handsome Elezen, so I reckon he is either not interested in dating or he has a lover. We all know Lucia has her reasons for supporting Aymeric, in most anime, mangas and comic books, these type of characters tend to fall in love with the person they admire. So who knows, maybe Aymeric might not want to date others, because he is already in love with Lucia or they might already be dating.
4. Moenbryda and Urianger. Moen flirts openly with Urianger and its obvious that they have a bond.

Other major npcs have more of a family relation like Raubhan and Nanamo or Papalymo and Yda or feelings that came from duty Thrancred and Minfilia. Then there are npcs that are a couple, like the gay Mi'qote and Hyur (I think it was a hyur).

So when it comes to the Warrior of Light, unless the love interest is the Japanese version of Haurchefant, the only lover is another player character.


PS: Dont get me wrong, I ship Aymeric with my character aswell, but from what I am seeing, Aymeric sees us only as a friend.
