Future Summons

A quick search revealed no topic about this since the announcement by Yoshi-p that Summoner will appear in the game.

For those of you who have not yet heard, summoner will not be summoning the prime avatars such as Ifrit. Those will be restricted to grand company summons - i.e. top linkshells per server will be able to summon them such as there is never more than one of any given avatar in the world at a time.

Summoner will be able to summon lesser spirits at will. There are a variety of these in the Final Fantasy lore. Here's a list of what I have so far:

There are more, but I think these would be reasonable. I don't expect them to add nearly this many. Adding a single one would be a great deal of work. I just hope that the developers remember some of these great summons for the future.

What, no Fenrir?

Im still pissed Dragoons will not get a pet and summoner class is reduced to lesser avatars.. Why would i want to be a sommoner if i can not summon my Fav avatars?

Ifrit... o ifrit.......

Some of these avatars are great... I didn't list things like Fenrir because I thought it would be too powerful and they'd never include it in a list of possible summons for XIV. For the same reason I didn't add stuff like diabolos, alexander, etc.

Keep in mind we WILL be able to summon great avatars like Ifrit, just not by default. We have to do that as a group of players as a reward. I think it makes things more exciting anyway.

Fixed it for you. It makes it LESS exciting to be a summoner to me IMO.

I do not want the SMN class to be weaker or less exciting because of companies. Why don't they add Huge avatars like bahumaunt or Alexander or knights of the relm or Eden for the company summons and leave ifrit and shiva to the summoners....

Sure it's my opinion, but I think that it's a good move by SE. Making it so that only special circumstances permit the summoning of great avatars like Ifrit means that those experiences will be great, celebratory events. Those peak experiences are what makes a great game.

IDK how thats better for the summoner class tho. Ifrit is a staple..... I think he is not even near the most powerful avatars....

Now bahumanut and Alex and knights of the relm and others are alll beings that should need a company type quest to get and use. That would make sense. they are Kings of all avatars. Ifrit is not a king. I know in this game he is worshipped but then what happens when the real powerful avatars come in?

Its just killing the class IMO.

Just in case: SE might have meant something other than the OPs depiction of how SMN summons will differ from Company summons.

Ffs SE... Why are you nerfing SMN again? You already screwed them over in FFXI. Some of us actually care a lot about how the SMN (and petjobs in general) plays and looks. If you nerf our dmg and mp costs you may as well not even put SMN in FFXIV.

Agreed. Putting in avatars no body cares about is a stupid plan.

I look at summoning this way yes there going to be lesser summon's but that does not take away from the god like summons. For example Ifrit you can attune your lesser summon if it's fire base by defeating Ifrit it grant's it additional power's. Also they could introduce other related quest,battle content to further that concept even greater for any summons making summoner more proficent in that class. Just saying there plenty of way's to make a unique summoner class the primal's teaching you lesser summons to toughen them up and I'd rather have a summoner use that one time summon like ifrit anyone can use it but if summoner there be a noticable difference then say if an non summoner in your group did just saying. This is just may opinion though let you mind be creative on this people :)

Just because we hate this idea does not mean we are not creative. Point is in your idea you are trying to make the class fun..... and important. the best way to do that is just add the avatars we want. Simple as that IMO. Why create this awesome line of story just so we can try to get a result we still do not want. We want to summon classic avatars as well as new ones.

I completely understand how people love summons like Ifrit. Even though it may not be the most powerful ever to grace the FF series it's still incredibly popular. For whatever reason SE has decided that in XIV avatars like Ifrit will be highly powerful company summons. The summoner job will summon other sorts of avatars.

I guess I'm just among those who aren't particularly down on this. If we were summoning things like Ifrit, Garuda, etc I'd think 'ok... well... I saw that coming.' It's expected to summon those things. That makes it a little more boring for me in everyday gaming.

For that reason I'm seriously looking forward to summoning some of the other possible avatars like Golem, Yojimbo or Magus Sisters. They're great.

Many of those in the OP list (Crusader, Raiden, Adrammelech, Mateus, Belius, Hashmal etc..) are hardly what I'd consider lesser summons. But it's a good list overall.

My preference would be create summons from past FF bosses, as well as bringing back some lesser used summons:

• Valefor - Astral
• Scarmiglione - Earth
• Rubicante - Fire
• Cagnazzo - Water
• Barbariccia - Wind
• Ixion - Thunder
• Mist Dragon - Ice
• Deathgaze - Umbral

I'm certain that the summons we do get will be fun. After all they're really only adding smn to the game because yoshi-p feels like playing smn. It had better be fun.

SMN should be added to the game because it's a FINAL FANTASY game. But I'm glad Yoshi-P is a fan of the job. It's always been my favorite part of the series.

Ideally, I'd like to see an 'Evoker' Class (see FFIII) who summons Carbuncle and Elemental Spirits - (no MP upkeep), and a 'Summoner' Job who gets access to more advanced summons (such as the ones I listed) with heavy MP upkeep.

Also, the Summoner Job should be a mandatory component for summoning Primals - even though they are summoned by the Player Company.

Smn being mandatory for a company summoning primals may already be a part of the plan ^^
