I think a GM whisks you away to their gm jail where they talk to you for a bit. Not sure what happens after that, or how serious the consequences are.
Depends on what you're being reported for and the GM that responds to the report. For most offenses I'm pretty certain they only give you a warning or temporary suspension. If you're a repeat offender or do something particularly egregious it might result in a permanent ban.
Well it's funny that you ask and the answer will be not sure. It seems to depend on the day the report has been made. Out of experience I do know that in most cases nothing happens to those players, maybe a warning and that's about it. There have been many times players are reported and GM's of course will tell you that they can't give you any update or personal information regarding the report/case. Needless to say, that's just some general answer and means as much as we don't care lol. Not saying that all GM's are like that, but sadly we are seeing it every day, houses are still sold on PF etc.
hopefully i never get in trouble and find out
Well, no one really knows....we need someone to try :p
More seriously, i guess it depends on what you did, how many times and how many ppl reported you.
You insult someone out of rage but you never did it before, has just loose you temper and explain you are sorry, i guess you just get a little slap on the fingers.
You created the housing mafia, your life is just stealing, trolling and insulting...;well....considering SE's politic regarding this you probably get a little slap on the fingers ^^"
I think the mods on this forum are harsher then in game GM's :p
On mobile and can't edit.
If you're trade spamming people who are trying to teleport, that is childish trolling. If you do that, then I hope you get banned.
It's probably easier for them to research stuff here than in game. The process to report a player in game is much more complicated than here. We've been asking for an easier way to report problem players since launch but for some reason, SE cannot or will not implement it.
I've been reported by 7 people at once ( a whole FC basically, the tank got his FC m8s to report me because he knew his case was a nonissue). Still to this day nothing has happened.
Well, they do investigate. I had a couple FC mates in the past get thrown into GM jail for harassing RPer's back on Balmung. The number of people reporting probably only has an effect on how quickly the GMs respond to the reports, not the severity of the punishment for whatever they find.
Still, it would be nice if false reports would get some kind of infraction as well.
Unless posts\character mysteriously disappears.....
It's pretty clear that the GMs *do* take action on at least the most egregious offenders, which I'm grateful for.
Short advice for the OP - just don't be a jerk. It literally gets you nothing in life and people won't like you. You're kidding yourself if you think folks don't remember the players who are generally unpleasant and will make sure not to group with\help them. You really only hurt yourself if you are deliberately trolling others to the point that they are reporting you to the GMs. Trolling people for the 'lulz' is at best immature and people won't like\help you, at worst ban-worthy and you won't get to play at all anymore. Just don't be that guy.
oh believe me, they made sure i knew. The FC leader was asking his friends if they'd sent the reports and all were saying yes. funny thing was they didn't want to get involved in what was happening, but I'll say no more, don't want those old cringe-worthy memories to resurface.
I know that GMs do take action if they feel the report is justified.
I've been banned from the forums once because I made a statement that someone interpreted as "targeting a group of people who speak a particular language", although that wasn't my intention whatsoever.
Someone simply read too much into it and reported it, and a GM thought it was inappropriate. So I got a 2 week ban.
So yeah, you can never be too careful because you never know what someone might see as "reportable". Or what GMs consider an "offense", even if it seems completely innocent to you.
I have also reported someone in the game for having an inappropriate character name. While their name wasn't a curse word per se, it was not suitable for the rating of the game, and their name made me feel very uncomfortable.
He was a mentor, but because the server is 99% Japanese speakers, no one probably knew the meaning of his name. But I can understand a lot of English, so I knew. As a female, I felt sick to my stomach when I saw that name.
A GM said they would look into it. Within a day his name was changed.
I'm pretty sure every report is investigated regardless of the severity. Obviously canceling someone's teleport once isn't going to give you the same punishment as selling gil or being offensive, but it's still classed as harassment and you will probably get a warning or ban if you continue doing it.
Not to mention it's completely childish.
Another thing (can't edit my previous post) - like someone else mentioned, often people are banned through misinterpretations or light-hearted comments that are taken the wrong way. I made a comment on the forums to someone that was mildly rude and only in reaction to what the other player said, but it was taken offensively and I was banned for a short time. Just be very careful as words are not easy to interpret via text and also each GM is different in the severity of their punishments.
