What is with the Bard costumes/armor/gear in early Heavensward?

I look like a court jester! It's sort of ridiculous, and sort of funny. But why can't I look a little more "badass" instead of looking like I should be in the circus? I'm level 54...is this just a Final Fantasy thing? Or a Bard thing?! Dragoon armor looks cool!

That is the problem. One thing is to be a bard and another a hunter.

Imagine a nurse doing surgeries as if they were a doctor.

I know what gear you're referring to unfortunately. Some of the magic classes also share that gear and I don't understand why they chose the Jester hat.. It's just an early 50 thing. If you got the Ironworks hat, don't worry about buying that Jester piece.

Bard is thematically classed as a performer, so a lot of bard-specific gearsets are eccentric like that (even though technically this isn't one as I believe it's a version of an old Mage set). That it uses a bow is almost incidental. Personally I love it. :D

Is the Machinist a performer too? As that is the shared set for it too XDDDD

And here is where the bard aesthetics become a problem for me. :D Machinists should have leather jackets, zippers, form-fitting stuff. Not huge pieces of cloth in weird colours.

I'm sticking with my Archeoskin Jackcoat glamour, thank you very much.

It's really only a thing at level 50 as all of that gear was originally designed for bards alone. Beyond 50 I don't think it's as much of a problem as the shared gear tends to look more general and no more eccentric than the sets for other jobs.

I just think a lot of the gear in this game is underwhelming and weird. Maybe I'm just used to the western depiction of armor.

THe LV 60 Esoteric armor sets, the Machinist and Bard each have their own armor set not shared with the other. The Bard esoteric set does not look like some jester or perfermer, as for the Machinist esoteric set it looks very much like the armor set the Elezen Machinist who teaches Machinist skills at the place where you do your Machinist quests.

It's no secret that I am, in fact, the best looking Bard on my server.
Don't be afraid to mix n match.

Bards in this lore are performers that motivate their armies on the battlefield. Hence the training with the bow.

Dragon age bards also wielded a bow and arrow as bards in that game were trained in espionage and assassination.

Bard gear starts to look more archer-like as you get to 60 xD

This thread has inspired me to glamour the Amon gear on my mch, because who doesn't want to look as ridiculous as possible?

The blindfold for the two classes that work off aiming was indeed a great touch, Squeenix

yeah brds have the least cool costumes in the game , outside 3-4 cool sets everything looks ugh.... Tanks get the most cool (plate sets are usually cool), followed by DRG (the snowflake that gets special treatment ) , the casters suffer the copy paste curse.... and look like white/black clones :(

I really don't like plate armor.... I think tanks and DRG have the worst of it TBH.

(bards get the best)

BRD (and by extension, MCH since they share gear) aesthetics have been an incredibly weak point for me, compared to other jobs. Their exclusives have been recolored gear that were previously available to them (and was also previously shared with healers and casters), by comparison of other jobs who had new or previously exclusive models made available . And just to put salt on the wound, MCH/BRDs have lost glamour that was previously exclusive to them entirely when they introduced uraeus coat, which is much much more readily available and is also dyble for all classes.

That, and the amount of robes we'd get that's more fitting of a caster. I could see some resembelence of a BRD/bow wielder wearing a long robe/skirt, but not MCH, and even then it starts to get a bit excessive and disappointing in consideration of their current design.

It is this exact issue that has me looking forward to getting my miqo'te huntress in to her skyhunter set as a glamor, i would have loved a full-on ranger job in this game but it is possible to make yourself look the part with the right gear~

What if they're making you look that dumb with that armor as a means to motivate you leveling out of it?

Glamour is the true end game. You can't out level end game. Therefore, you cannot outlevel glamour and armor.

True, but you also can't outlevel the cheapness of not glamouring leveling gear and the humiliation of looking like the most depressing clown.

All the gear at that level for every job is similar to what you would find in a Victorian Era royal Cort setting.... I think?

A lot of it is pretty terrible (imo), but there are a couple of decent or even cool sets for bards 50-60.

My biggest issue is with finding good looking pants. So many of the pants that I can wear as a bard are just... so awful. Or they just don't look good with/match any of my other gear. It's better once you hit 60 but still. :/

The only pants you need are the Aoidos ones and their....very tight fit...
