You don't get to be lazy anymore.
Pretty much, it forces alliances to pay attention otherwise the rest of the raid pays the price for a derp.
Good stuff.
Who or what is a "Ozma"? o_O
Reminds me of Ozymandias the watchmen from that Movie!
Does Yadis translate to anything in German cause on FF Wiki I read this on his IX Page
Yadis name for unidentified objects? I'm curious.Quote:
Ozma is a fictional character in the Land of Oz, created by L. Frank Baum. Project Ozma, an early SETI attempt at finding extraterrestrial life, was named after Princess Ozma, and is likely the inspiration behind the UFO-like Ozma.
The name is probably taken from Princess Ozma from the second Wizard of Oz novel The Marvelous Land of Oz (or, if you've never read the novels and only know of the film versions, she appears right at the end of the much maligned 80's sequel Return to Oz) - as Yasuhiro mentioned above.
Funnily enough in the original novel she was actually genderswapped into the form of a young boy named Tip and was only restored to her true form at the end - this idea of not having a true form seems to ring true with the FF Ozma's lack of form (as mentioned below).
But as Evangela mentioned, Ozma was FFIX's superboss (the supposed reason for why it was a floating sphere was that it was apparently a summon that lost it's shape because like here in XIV with Primals being a 'wish given form', the eidolons in FFIX were embodiments of myth and legend, and which would change form as the stories that gave birth to them also evolved and changed with each retelling. Hence Ozma was believed to be an eidolon (summon) whose origin stories had died out and was forgotten, and therefore lost it's shape, becoming nothing but a giant featureless multicoloured orb, perhaps showing the eidolons true form.
Anyway, that's enough FF lore-regurgitating from me. Carry on! :D
EDIT: Sniped by Yasuhiro :D
Please, take the credit xD I never knew, yours was way more detailed and I just spent 2 seconds on FFwikia with a C+P for information I never even knew about and just wanted to ask someone what his alternate name might mean in other languages.
Unpopular opinion but I like the name Orthros when referring to Ultros. Just sounds more eight legged? That's a terrible reason I know.
It's a fun boss but it usually takes a few wipes to clear, some people are using macros in alliance chat that explain the fight for others and it has been helping get clears.
I have 3 full clears so far and am done for the week but it has sure been a struggle to get those 3 clears trust me.
Really enjoyed some of the wipes and some of the reactions people had to things. Ozma is considered "the pug destroyer" and I think that's kinda cool.
It's not a terrible reason at all, as it's fairly likely the original intent behind his name in Japanese. "Der Richter" is also the original name of Penance in the Japanese versions of the game that have it.
For another piece of trivia related to this tangent, Ozma's name as shown in the original design diagram for FFIX is "O.Z.M.A." It's possible the localization team either didn't have access to the source and just translated directly from the pronunciation, or simply decided it was easier to call "Ozma."
Ozma was an amazing fight, wiped a few times but it was amazing especially when you beat it!
I can only imagine what it would be like to have ozma as a school teacher. No will fail in class.Ever.
I wish most of my Wiping City groups even got to Ozma. All but one of my attempts at this raid ended at the 2nd boss.
I love that ozma fight !! It's so fun and visually appealing, I love the black hole. And it's SO easy! The phases are so easy to read. Now the guy before him with the zombification and mega deaths now THAT MOFO! He can go shove it >:[ I had the hardest time understanding his mechanics.
If you recalled the Yunalesca fight in FFX you should have gotten the reference to the Megadeath mechanic fairly quickly. The only part where I failed was realizing that one puddle = good, two puddles = bad. It didn't occur to me that it would apply both stacks of the zombie debuff at the same time so I beat on our poor SMN for a while with my Astroglobe after.
The thing I like about ozma is that in ff9 he really wasn't difficult, there was just no guarantee you would win when you fought him, like he could open the fight with meteor and wipe you before you even got a turn.
In ffxiv he's not difficult really the mechanics are very basic. But there's no guarantee you'll win cause if the other alliance wipes he drops their meteor on you. So it's kinda well represented of the ff9 one. Lol
I'm happy how boss 3 of both 24man raid of HW are telling people : "Sorry lazyness is prohibited, move your Ass and help your team"
Carrying the alliance as a great healer duet from 1 team because the 4 remaining healer keep dying and and can't save their life is a fun expérience XD
Mana horrifying and tiring... but fun to do !
We're sitting in front of a tv screen / monitor for hours on end and throwing the word lazy around :-)
While I agree that Ozma is a "needed" less for how the game is not supposed to be played lazily, I'm not surprised if they'll nerf it within a week or two.
Remember Pharos back in 2.1? I certainly do.
Enjoy your Ozma fights while it lasts....
I really enjoyed Ozma ^^ Ironically.... as a healer (not my main) I was usually alive most of Ozma... it's the 1st and last boss that kept getting me... I'm too squishy (ilvl213) =(
I especially enjoy seeing newbies enter the fight when people rage and then they have no clue they can fall off the sides BEFORE we even pull :D
I always get a chuckle from seeing them pop up and I'm preparing a protect and their hp drops from 15k to 0.
Seeing as it WILL be nerfed sooner rather than later I doubt it will be this lesson it will teach, same with Nidhogg... I'm expecting a nerf within two weeks at best and we'll have a real easy ,albeit boring, time doing this raid and the rest of the "too hard" content of this patch... So enjoy it while it last because it won't last too long............ :(
ozma not even hard he has like 3 mechanics lol people just lazy and wan to be carried well to bad!
The hardest part of Ozma was dealing with the struggle of laughter and shame when I walked off the edge before the fight even began.
They waited for me to come back before the fight was started. Good times.
On a more serious note; in my limited experience, we wiped once on each of the 'harder' bosses. But slew them easily our second attempts. It was good fun and the mechanics are easy enough to learn.
Most of the time, it's the tank that will screw up with those beam mechanics and wipe their alliance. So just make sure that your punching bag understand it.
lol at all of you just claiming everyone asking for (or needing) a nerf is just being lazy*. This may come as a huge surprise to you, but not everyone plays games with the same amount of skill, and so it may actually be too difficult for some people.
I personally am not asking for a nerf. However, from all the content and patches that have come our way, you should realize XIV is not a "hardcore" game. Perhaps it's time to stop whinging whenever the inevitable nerf happens.
*Of bloody course there will be people who are simply lazy. But painting everyone with the same brush is not the way to go.
Well... DPS standing near/behind their tank are in fault too
And those who stay on the ring when cube appear
Or those Who stay on the platform when pyramide appear...
Which are most of the time DPS xP
Understanding mechanics and implementing the required responses are two different things. As I mentioned earlier, you have to understand that everyone in this game plays at various levels of skill. While one particular "dance" may be a complete joke for one player, it could be quite frustrating for another. And as the past has shown us many times, SE appears to cater towards those who need the helping hand.
Thought so, speaking of which the FF wikia has renamed nearly all mentions of Ultros to Orthros, I visit that website (cause it's my home page :P) every day, never seen that happen
You're right, just looked it up, a two headed dog to be precise, interesting trivia.
I feel that this patch is a major wake up call from the devs. It's like they heard all the complaints about non-Savage/EX content being far too easy, and they decided they needed to get the community to collectively get better at the game. Considering how the raiding population has been sharply declining since the start of the 3.x series, having a major gap in difficulty between raid content and everything else is a bad thing for the longevity of the game. I came from another game that had that exact problem for years (to the point where raiders would proudly declare that there was no reason for them to do anything but the yearly raid releases, so they essentially didn't play the game for 3/4ths of the year), and now the game is basically dead.
I think it's a good decision. The design is as such that special snowflake types can't be carried through anymore, or at least it'll be much harder for them to justify 'playing the way they want to play' instead of actually coordinating with the rest of the group. It is now blatantly obvious which people are holding the group back, and a lot of egos are getting crushed.
sorry, but if you got that far into the game, you should be able to handle the 3? mechanics.
it's kind of sad if you got that far, and didn't pick up any sense of mechanics, along the way...it has nothing to do with skill, just common sense, and paying attention - i have ADD, and even i can manage that (most of the time)
There will be no nerf for Weeping City of Mhach. Yoshi-P officially confirmed in Yesterday's Live Letter. And the timing of Nidhogg's Ultimate, Final Chorus has been adjusted for normal and extreme, but nothing else there has been touched.
