About the freeze on automatic land reclamation system...

Perhaps if it is used in the future, is it possible to get an option to turn it off?

Also could we please be told if the 'countdown' of 45 days inactivity is paused and will resume or if it will reset entirely when the freeze is lifted.
Eg. I have a friend who was at 43 days when the system was frozen, will they need to wait only 2 days to get their refund or will they need to wait another 45 days?

The reason I ask is because people who are trying to move servers are forced to wait on this system or they can not get their 80% land refund back.

This is an option to turn off the EMERGENCY system for those not effected. Not to turn off the reclamation system in general.

And I did very clearly say Perhaps if it is used in the future, since common sense dictates we will not get the option any time soon.

So! To recap the points are;

1. Can we please have the emergency system improved for the future
2. Can we please know if the number of inactive days on our current homes will resume countdown, or if it will start again from 45 days.

The only way I'd see turning it off working is if you like, paid a vacation fee or something.
Going on vacation for a couple months? Fee so it isn't reclaimed while you're gone.

Except the people who want the 80% return.

Which, uh...kinda was supposed to alleviate the sorrow of having your house forcefully taken from you, rather than being a standard refund for returning the house as people like to treat it, which is why you don't get it for simply abandoning it.

But who's even still paying attention...

When it comes to housing people are really quick to witch hunt huh?

What the OP is asking is if there's a way to turn off the current hold on the reclaimation system. This way people can have their house relinquished before the timer restarts on patch 3.4. This would be a GOOD thing for people looking for a house as land can become available sooner from those who turn off that current hold.

They haven't confirmed anything (except that it'll be turned back on in 3.35 whenever that is), but I suspect they'll just start the 45 days again from that point. From SE point of view the system was bought in to free up houses from inactive accounts, not for players to get a percentage of their money back by waiting it out. So with that in mind it's more in the existing house owners favour if they start the 45 days over (and I suppose more in SE favour too as they get more subscription time?).

In order to do that they would have to make the option to switch it on and off at players will which as I said most people would just keep it off.

No.. that would not be necessary. Have default be the 45 days and a toggle for "Allow land to be reclaimed instantly."

I was thinking that the option to do so would lift when the hold itself was removed? It'd be silly to keep it in place when the temporary hold it lifted, no?

Could also be changed to the person aboves suggestion.

Well they only did the option because of the earthquakes in Japan XD, just because they state it once doesn't mean it was to be implemented as a normal option

I think you've misunderstood the idea.
Turning it off would allow your house to be relinquished. She suggested an option to turn off the freeze, not an option to turn off the relinquishment setting.
Nobody wants a non-player keeping their house forever!

In Lexia's defence, I understood it the same way.

In any case, while the intended(?) meaning does sound quite reasonable and desirable, I must also admit that I don't see it as a possibility. Adding such an option would have to arrive with 3.5 at the earliest when the freeze will likely be lifted anyways, but more importantly, it basically condones the idea of claiming refunds on your home which was not the intended idea behind the reclamation system in the first place. If they were going to consider this line of thinking then they'd more than likely simply allow an option to manually relinquish the plot while still claiming a refund since the Freeze is only a temporary measure, regardless of the possibility of it being further extended.

It's meant as a consolation for having land taken away because you were away from game too long.

making it easier to get something your not supposed to want to begin with is kind of counter-intuitive

Something that makes me uneasy about this whole deal of reclaiming houses and the current freeze on the timer is that there are lots of people around the world playing who may be subject to situations outside their control which would make them unable to play for a long period of time. Sickness, natural hazards happening on a smaller area not being covered by worldwide media, etc. In none of those situations they would halt the timer. I wonder, if another natural disaster was to happen here in Chile, for instance... would they freeze the timer too? If they didn't then that would mean I'm a 2nd class customer to them.

That is too complex!

This is not true.
At the first place, some houseless complained no house to buy, they didn't accept they were late or lack of foresight, or not do business with the housing,
and keep complaining and eventually we have this great reclaiming system. ^^;

I'm talking about non-Japanese being second rate customers to Square Enix. They stopped reclamation for a Japanese incident, but it's very unlikely they would do the same for anyone else.

It a reclaim system not a give up system

I love how in 2013 when houses came out people paid money for them and didn't expect to ever get that money back. The house costs that much, they paid it, money gone. Back then it was also considerably more money as well.

But now, because of reclamation, everyone expects their house purchase to be refundable when they want to give it up.

It doesn't work that way. The 80% is a compensation for having lost the property. If you want your money back, then wait 45 days and laugh that you beat the system and willingly gave up your house and got some money back, but please don't expect to get it back before then. Housing is still supposed to be a gil sink, but it's becoming less and less of one.

Yes, but why speaking to me ....
I am not the one need a give up system and I was the one objecting this reclaim system.

I suggested keep subs active (ie. reclaim when n-day no subs) instead of "access your house in 45days" at the first place as many ppl said some ppl will not be able to access their house for valid reasons.
But another group of ppl said "if you don't access your house you don't need it" and eventually we have this great (problem) reclaiming system.

And then yes it happened (unable to access), and SE resolved it by suspending the system.

The refund of 805 is for those who get forced out of the house due to LONG inactivity ONLY. If you want to leave for any other reason like server transfer, well... you choice. So No refund. Demolish it a move server.

I am one to think the "refund" that occurs during reclamation is a motivation for someone to resub again and not to give back someone their money on a house they want to part with. Granted, I'm sure it happens both ways though.

If someone found out about the reclamation system after they unsubbed, they might feel like that's one less reason to come back. But then they read the part about getting most of the money back so they might resub thinking they could just buy another house. After they resub and log in they of course find out there aren't any available but hey!

You're right, it does go both ways. And of course the 20% loss as well as loss of special furniture that's destroyed on removal is a gil sink.

This is just a simple request for information and a suggestion on how to cater for those who are not effected by terrible disasters. Like another person already said, they are not going to pause the system for every disaster in every country.
