Exorcist/Samurai Job Class (Mobile Burst DPS)

this is a complete new interruption of the samurai job. so concept is very fresh.


Samurai's and Exorcist Great Katana Via Spirit Blade no simple weaponsmith could forge. a weapon that not only cleave's the foe but cleanse the spirit. these weapons are known as "Katana" weapons that are made from spirits of mighty esper's and finest of metals

One Weapon is all it takes
Unlike other classes where you have many different weapons to choice from. you only have 1 from moment you start this class your katana levels with you. and you get to customize as you would your own appearance.

Complete Freedom too Customize your katana
when you level so does your katana. and stats on your weapon will too. at level 1 "Dex" will be already be on your weapon. watch also grow as you level

then when reach lvl 5 stamina for free and a choice "Betweeen critical hit, Determination, Skill Speed" this continue to happen every 5 levels as well as increase over time

this makes it one of cheapiest dps classes to play cause you have only one weapon

of course there gonna be merchant to buy it if you lost your current katana

Exorcist/Samurai Ability


Byakko's Talisman: Third Eye - Your weapon would emit a white Electric electric glow. when you use a skill it as 100% crit rate for next 3 skills you use

Suzaku's Talisman: Vermillion's Wing - your weapon would emit blue fire. is able to use your melee attacks into ranged ones from a distance by shooting small phoniex's like birds at your enemy

Genbu's Talisman: Snake of the deep - your weapon would emit a snake like finger made of water. your attacks poison the target dealing 10+ potency for 30 seconds this can stack up 5 times making it 50 potency

Seiryu Talisman: Azure Dragons - Your weapons would emit runic symbols that are azure you deal 50% more potency from melee attacks

Kouryu Talisman: Gold Dragon - Creates 4 copys of yourself that deal 50% the damage you do. have same hp and stats they last as long as your tp does or they die. while this is active all your actual combat will use your rotations on there target turning you making you deal ungodly amount of dps and can buy a healer time to raise if tanks dies sense monsters cant tell watch one is watch

while talisman's are active they drain TP per second i mean alot of it. won't be able to keep them active for long

Banish - Banish - Deal 150 Potency: Combo Action deals 300 Potency if an talisman is active. Consumes Talisman (this is a ranged attack)
Banish 2 - Deal 300 Potency combo action Deals 550 potency but consumes talisman upon use

(these probably only ranged attacks you have)

every other attack they have melee attacks. that deal "Huge amount of damage"

Zengutzu - you grab your halt. you channel for about 5 seconds. then your charge your enemy lightening speed. and with one slice of your mighty sword Deal 1500 potency (if your attacked at any time this is disturbed)

You probably see highiest potency on attacks on dex based dps class

But Black Star's an assassin who uses ninja weapons and in the video you linked, he barely even uses Tsubaki... >w>

I do have a few thoughts and questions on your job's design:
~ I like the idea of it focusing on one weapon and the ability to update it is interesting.
~Are they only allowed to use one Talisman at a time? It seems kind of unbalanced if it can have 100% Crit Rate, +50 Potency, +50 Melee Damage, and 4 clones that deal half the damage all at the same time.
~Zengutzu is way to clunky for a melee job, that has to constantly avoid AoEs. I also think the potency is way too high. You're getting 300 potency per second, versus say Dragoon, who in the same 5 second span only gets 116 per second with using Fang and Claw and Wheeling Thrust once you get Blood of the Dragon, their respective buff, and positional.
~Kouryu Talisman: Gold Dragon is WAY too broken. You're increasing your DPS by 200%.

Well it's definitely a more interesting take on a job I'd otherwise find absolutely unimaginative. That being said, its lack of overall balance and more concise spell names on top of a weapon system which would never really happen in this game unfortunately make this particular Samurai concept merely a flight of fancy (which is honestly how I think the typical Samurai stereotype should be).

On the plus side, it does actually raise an interesting question of what exactly will the devs draw influence from in the creation of Samurai. Although there are more than enough elements from the history around Japan and the multiple images that come to mind, it also wouldn't be the first time that manga or anime sources would be a point of inspiration for job development.

Wind Blade would've worked as a ranged attack, or some other sort of strike that creates an air wave. Honestly I liked the concept of adding Exorcist because it was something different, and I'd think that more from that could be added into the Samurai design to prevent it from being just "another melee class", which I think that overplayed armored shogun stereotype would do.

As for the anime, I think the only reason why the devs used the manga "Berserk" or whatever it was called was used as an inspiration for Dark Knight was because they ran out of ideas from European influences. Since there are more local influences on their end for Samurai, my guess is that using any animation source as an inspiration again would be less likely.

Sure, but probably not that powerful. Maybe around half that, or something more inline with the other standard ranged attacks from melee jobs (javelin, throw, shield lob, tomahawk). Either TP cost would be 10 or 20 more than those or there would be a cooldown to compensate for the addition of a silence.

Interesting idea. It's would be a nice spin on Samurai. It reminds me of my concept of how SAM should be in XIV.

I love your idea If we could merge ideas we can make something very unqiue your melee combat skill ideas and exocist ideas

Zengetzu does do alot of damage but its so hard pull off without propar cover

to me samurai class should be action packed dps. having amazing movement stick and and move.. using that movement and able dash to point a to point b while dealing high potency attacks. that can also be a con. constant sticking and moving before anyone says ninja. those little stabbers are not katana with picture katana I picture "Sephiroth"

My take on samurai, is a melee dps with 4-5 combo skills, that can be used in any 3 combo order, but have different effects at end depending on certain orders, one could boost your defense, another boosts your offense, one applies a dot, etc.

With a few unique skills thrown in, such as a jump attack that basically has you dash through the enemy. A super powerful attack that can only be done while weapon is sheathed. Maybe ability to wear different banners that apply weak party wide buffs?

Don't mean to burst ur bubble or idea but since Samarai is based on historical Japanese warriors. If I'm correct from the edo erea sorry about spilling mistake. There is no tail or lengend that I know of where a Samarai had the ability to do a exorcism. It's never ever been in amines to this day. I like the fact that ur being creative but I can't see SE doing it. Like someone said there more likely to take an idea from a anime or a movie. But ur idea is really cool.

I like this idea. Very interesting.

I was thinking about ur exorcist attack what if it was a soul weaken attack instead. When you use it there would be a timer that counts down from 50 to 0(once the time hits 0 you have to wait for the cool down to finish before u can use the attack again) and every time you strike you steel the mobs Dex and strength. Which automatically convert into ur second attack allowing you to do more damage. Now because of this the cool down would take a lot longer to complete before you can use it again.

As has been stated previously the FF Samurais have been mostly based on the versions from Japan's history and many FF games draw mainly from their own history and rarely from outside sources. So when designing any class you should look to FF first and then the rest of the world second. With that said there are precedence for a more supernatural Samurai.

The Samurai of 11 were dispellers of demons. They had the warding circle and demon killer abilities. The Samurai of FF Tactics were even more on the spiritual side of things. They had the ability to "draw out" the spirits of a Katana for some sort of AoE ability. I think we could possibly come to a compromise between the old school honorable warrior and the supernatural destroyer of evil spirits.

I am intentionally not specifying things like potency as these are all just ideas that would need to be balanced by a SE.

This class should retain many of its weapon skill names from 11 and could use them to combo with. Things like Tachi:Enpi > Tachi:Jinpu or Tachi:Yukikaze > Tachi:Gekko > Tachi:Kasha. Each of these combos would have 2 additional effects. One would put some sort of debuff on the enemy like slow, or bind, or an elemental weakness(this is your reference to the FF11 Skillchains). You could name these additional effects after the old Skillchain names. The second effect would weaken and steal a portion of the enemies soul.

One of the primary mechanics would be the Samurai absorbing the soul of its enemy into its katana. This would put a stacking debuff on the enemy that has a small but incremental effect and would place a buff on the Samurai that would do two things. One would be to place a buff on the weapon used that did something specific to the type of creature who's soul was absorbed. Every successful auto attack and weapon skill would absorb a portion of soul, while a successful combo would absorb a larger portion. These soul points would stack up to a certain amount that would increase while leveling. Some examples of absorbed souls could be extra fire damage from a demon, aoe life steal from undead, or increased armor from stone based creatures. The second effect would be that these stacks of soul points would be used as a resource.

These stored up soul points would blast out from the Samurai in a more powerful effect based upon the soul absorbed. This ability should be on a semi long cooldown and expend all of the stored up soul points. This can create all sorts of utility based on what is being fought and could possibly create some unique situations in boss fights with different types of adds. There could also be an ability to instantly absorb a large amount of soul point from a target. That should also be on a semi long cooldown.

I feel the honorable dueling of your opponent is what should be taken from the Samurai's history, so I would be inclined to have some of the positional requirements of skills to have Samurai in front of it's target. This would create the need to move out of the way for tank busters so the class feels a little more action packed and still maintain the honorable duel feeling.

This has some old stuff and some new stuff and also adheres to the established FF lore. What does everyone think?
