I for one am tired of EVERYONE leveling lancer now because its "helpful" in the Ifrit fight. We used to be one in a few, now that is gone! Very disappoint in this. THUMBS UP IF YOUR WITH ME!!!!!!!!!!!

Almost every DD in FFXI went through a phase where everyone wanted to play it at least once. WAR/NIN with axes, MNK, SAM, THF, WAR/SAM with great axe and so on and so on. Changes in the game and community will ensure this keeps happening. Lancer is the flavor of the month.

I'm with you Rokien. When XIV was released no one cared about lancers, now everyone whines how awesome they got, but even before 1.19. palyers changed to lancer als their mainclass... you can't imagine how many lancers we have in our LS. Resulted in; (if everyone had insisted on playing their lancer) our darkhold runs would have been alyways with 3-4, made me angry for all these lancers keep coming - but well, thats childish, i know... can't change that feeling though.^^
I just hope all those "OMG LOOK AT MY DAMAGE"-lovers who keep changing their mainclass won't stick with this job and move onwards ^^
But i can't say that i blame them for changing to lancer now, for the ifrit fight... that's how this game works at the moment. -

I understand your feeling. It's like when we do something with our passion and love, and we feel proud of it, then suddenly, boom! It became a fashion and everyone jumps in. They're doing what you love, but only because it's a hot topic. So you can't help feeling they're not the "real" lancer, but just hitching a ride from what's fashionable/beneficial.
But well, since people can change class at any time they like, I could predict this to happen. I am not main lancer, though. And I must say I still love my Pugilist the best and don't feel as "natural" playing other class as when I am Pugilist.

Personally I don't like Lancer, so I won't start playing it no matter how useful it becomes.
I'll stay with Pugilist, even though it became the worst class ever.

The people who say "Why should you care" I care because my individuality is gone. I'm just the norm now, so is every other lancer. In FFXI I knew people by their job. You don't have that type of identidy now. Its all a big mesh. You ask a person with more than 2 50s, they can't tell you who they are and what role they play. I don't know, I know I'm being silly, but I just like the role playing aspect of that.

Well, you can always just decide what you want to be.
I think this freedom is way better than what you have in other MMORPGs (I didn't play FFXI, I have no idea how it worked there), where you have to get 10 characters for 10 classes.
Here, you can just try every class out until you know what you really are - deep down.
Seriously, if you like roleplaying then you should know that you can become pretty much everything you want.
So if I'm a Pugilist deep down, it does not matter if my highest class is actually Conjurer instead and I know a lot about magic.
For roleplaying purposes and just for having a Final Fantasy story in my mind, I am purely a Pugilist.
And now please stop complaining like a little child who is angry because it's not special anymore.

I think people are jumping the gun on LNC getting nerfed. LNC/DRG will be a crit-based attacker. If you're any kinda MMO vet, you'll know that on average, crit-based attack classes are generally top single-target DPS. I don't see this changing, at all, IMHO.

Oh about the PS: they said the same thing about Damzehl Darkhold, now look at Archer. Also I'm am one of the leaders of an LS trust me when I say it blows to tell Johnny he cant come because he isn't lancer, I want equal rights for all DD classes. -

Over the past few patches we have seen many class/battle balancing changes, which will continue likely into 1.22/1.23.
As it stands now, they are moving classes from the "mix-n-mash clusterf-ck" they have been, and creating archetypes within the game. Here's what's shaping up on the horizon:
GLA: Single-target tank.
PGL: Evasion tank.
MRD: AoE Damge/Trash tank.
LNC: Strict DD.
ARC: Buffer.
CNJ/THM: Heals and/or DD/DoTs.
THM/CNJ: DD/DoTs and/or Heals.
We will be left with:
Two tanks, Two DD (one arguably a tank on trash mobs due to it's high damage output), Two Mages, One Buffer.
Thus, Lancer is not likely to be nerfed in any sense.
What is likely, is a huge buff coming once DRG emerges. -

I think each class has its place in the ifrit fight. Archer could avoid EVERY attack if they are good enough. They still do good damage, ya not as much as lancer on a single target. But they have great AOE skills(not really helpful against ifrit). I think every class has their place in the game, I just hate how everyone is like "LANCER ONRY OR GTFO" It's like.... you never even LIKED lancer before, now you're a lancer junky. They don't need to nerf lancer, they just have to adjust the fight a bit. My pug friend can do just as much dmg as I on the fight. He aslo can take a hit better as well. Again every class has its place, it's just how you use them.

"Original" dosen't carry much weight in an MMO. Though if you stick with it after it stops being a flavor of the month, you'll keep the identity you like.
But that doesn't have to be the result of a nerf or a buff so much as introduction of more content. Not every class is going to shine in every fight, Lancer does with Ifrit. That might not be true with Ifrit, Garuda (which I expect will require some ranged classes to work with. I imagine her being able to fly out of attack range for a period of time, which Ranger will do well with.)
This is just sort of one of the phases the game goes through. Though I doubt the popularity of Lancer is going to wane much untill other jobs are introduced. Dragon is popular just based on aesthetics. We'll see how the mechanics work with it later. But until the classes and jobs flush out, the choices are sort of limited. -
