They teased samurai and red mage so you will get your wish.
Personally, I feel we need another Blunt dmg dps.
Mace users please.
Unless Samurai is a tank and Red Mage is a healer...
I kinda wish Dark Knight was either using a blunt blade (we can totally work that into the lore, right?), or was wielding a two handed mace... Delirium and Dragon Kick annoy me...
Lmao knowing yoshi he probably will do that.

Yes! a Healer that can compete for spots with AST finally!
Well Red Mage is know for being able to double cast the same skill at once so why not give it a mechanic that allows Red Mage healer to double the healing potency resulting in using 2 of the same healing skills for 1 cast and 1 skill cost.
That way Red mage becomes the Burst healer type Job.
I feel like the devs already said something about how they needed a sword using dps. If im remembering that correctly, then samurai is gonna be it
Personaly, I am tired of the mage like healer. The next healer class should be different, like maybe use TP and MP and if possible, not wear robes. Maybe the next healer will get healing power from a stat like dex?
Sword based dps and maces are quite underrepresented overall.
I would love to see double cast be a major thing for RDM. Personally i kinda would like to preserve the melee thing, whether its a healer or something else, for a healer it wouldnt be impossible just tricky much like all melee supports are instant cd, id see a majority of functioning heals as cd based(lustrate, indomitability, bene), which could either make it underwhelming, or op if not balanced perfectly. i guess it could have a staff and stand back and cast, it just would make me frown.
There already is a sword-ish DPS. Rogue. Sure, they're rather short swords, but still, sharp bladed thingies!
Seriously though, I'd like to ask... do we REALLY need yet another DPS?
Allrounder here, so I dont mind whichever role we are going to get. But if SE were to only add 1 class, which role do you think this class will have? SE has shown so far that they will cater to the majority. We know that DPS players outnumber the Tank and Healer by alot. I doubt SE would release one class for the tanks or healer. Knowing SE they want make sure that majority of the playerbase plays their new class, otherwise it would be a waste of resources and time.
On the tank forum there used to be a thread about how effective the Dark Knight was in converting DPS and Healers to play a Tank. The reponds show that majority of the Dark Knight who play the class as their main, were already maining a Paladin or Warrior. A small group converted into a Tank, but the rest leveled the class and benched it.
So to answer your question with a another question, do we need really a new Tank or a Healer class aswell?
Yes... having 3 tanks and 3 healers is quite... rubbish, I can deal with it til 4.0. Just look at the current meta, every group I've seen runs a WAR and SCH. Now look at the DPS side, its quite flexible.. sure there's a meta with the likes of MCH and NIN, but I've seen many groups run without these 2 jobs as well. I can't speak for Tanks and Healers, I haven't seen a single group without those 2 jobs, I'm sure there out there, but very few I can tell you. Creating 4 tanks and 4 healers MIGHT break needing these 2 essential jobs.
I can see where your coming from though, they'll always be more DPS then tanks and healers and people using the argument saying "Do we need any more DPS?" is quite silly, there are 4 DPS in raid groups, and more DPS players overall. Its much easier to balance DPS then Tanks and Healers. But I can't take your quote seriously UNTIL 4.0 where we have 4 tanks and healers. Sorry to go off topic here.
On Topic: I personally would like to see SAM Tank and RDM DPS using a Sword or Rapier of the likes, would satisfy both sides. Just my opinion though.
If they introduce SAM, then chances are it's going to be that sword DPS. Funny enough, this would further solidify WAR's spot thanks to SE, unless SAM got their own debuff and it wasn't a major DPS loss for them to maintain it compared to NIN.
Or we can give RDM Double and Triple, skills that are already in the Game, and then be done with it
Depends, are you fine with ALL the queues being just as bad as PVP queues. Because that;s what gonna happen if they release just DPS classes.
Not really. The main reason Warrior is essential is because of the Storm's Path/Storm's Eye debuffs. These allow Warrior + Dark Knight and Warrior + Paladin to be more optimal with any combination of healer and dps than Dark Knight + Paladin.
A 4th tank might make the current situation worse or end up leaving the current situation mostly unchanged. Warrior + Dark Knight/Paladin/New Tank being optimal is not a situation I want to see and Warrior/New Tank + Dark Knight/Paladin is hardly better than the current situation.
The healer problem is more because of how underpowered Noct stance shields are for PvE content in comparison to Scholar shields. White Mage + Astro(Noct) is just not as good as White Mage + Scholar or Astro(Diurnal) + Scholar even though it is still viable.
I'd rather see Samurai be a Katana wielding Maiming gear wearing slashing DpS with its main combo applying a version of Storm's Eye/Dancing Edge with one of its secondary combos applying a version of Storm's Path. This should solve the "Must have a Warrior" problem.Quote:

I'd like Red Mage to be a Rapier and Buckler wielding Scouting gear wearing melee piercing/magic support DpS.
On the DPS side... they've done a fantastic job. Why doubt them on Tank and Healers? Hell, if you want to argue about the most optimal composition for DPS raiding its actually 2 Mch's, 1 Nin, 1 Drg. But we don't see that, like at all.
This isn't the only reason SCH is so viable.. the noct AST shields are actually stronger then SCH shields if not crited. Its all the utilty it brings, being able to spread a single target shield onto the whole party + burst heals + pet healer + highly sustained DPS while keeping HPS up. Its the same for WAR. WAR isn't only viable for its 2 debuffs or DPS, its actually very close to DRK DPS. What WAR does great is its self sustain on top of all its utility, having one of the most on demand mitigation skills in the game on top of its ability synergy.
Your literally describing WAR as a DPS. Also 2 DPS? This is shooting the tank population in the foot.
I'm glad someone cares. As much as people say not many people switched from DPS to DRK, it did do something for at least the first few weeks and peaked some peoples interest in changing roles and sticking to it, we can't just shove that point away.
I fall under that category as well, had raised WAR to 50 but had no real interest in tanking, decided to give DRK a shot and now I am the MT for our Static Raid with zero issues jumping into dungeons as a tank. Just need a class that appeals to people to get them in the door and keep em, sure some may turn right back around but if even a percent of those people stay instead of staying as a DPS or Healer, I call it a win.
I just hope SAM uses a one handed sword. Truthfully I want a freelancer.
Why do we have a gun wielding DPS before a simple sword DPS?
I ask this in all honesty why do we need a sword DPS class? Many ask for it, to say it wouldn't be popular would just flat out wrong, but in looking at the iconology of the sword one has to admit that the fantasy of the sword lends it's self to those commonly seen in front of the enemy (i.e tanks)

I am not developer, or any such creator of popular media, however without any of those credentials I feel that the reason two of the thirteen jobs wielding swords was not a mistake. Simply as a way of conveying a character as a hero, the image a swordsmen fighting against evil is just iconic.
Conversely the look of a sword through... lets say back...

(i was actually surprised i had a bit of issue finding a sword to the back image that was not dagger size)
looks much less heroic and somewhat villainous. I am admittedly more than likely wrong and i thank everyone before hand for telling me so... However imo in the drive to paint the picture Sword wielding hero, it is simply easier to put the blade in the hands of the person in front. Even if it means giving them the responsibility of standing there.
I would prefer Samurai tank and a rapier wielding Red Mage as the sword DPS. Oh, and Dancer as the healer, maybe with chakrams.
Well if they go the route of Samurai as DPS, and Red Mage as healer... we would always have Blue Mage? Though that job would be hard to implement in this game.
Ninja kind of counts. They dual wield katanas which is a type of short sword.
Actually... we could get Rune Fencer, caster sword DPS.
Why do you have to call them Katanas. They're not. Katanas have one bladed edge, not two. We don't even get a rogue dagger that resembles a Katana save for a few exceptions point is its not normal for rogue. How do you argue throwing Daggers. Would you throw a katana?
Needs more Red Mage Tank in here. Send Samurai to die in DPS congestion.
Jesus. Why do you all have to count ninja as a sword wielder just to say we already have a sword wielding class. This is a sword that is a dagger can we move on?
Find better arguments.
Actually we sort of do. WAR and SCH are the only jobs with that are guareenteed a slot in an optimal party ass the off-tank/healer. (Though as one pointed out the PS might not be the deciding factor but the utility, which is also true for SCH). It doesn't have to be SAM, but we do need some competition for the Off-Tank slot.
Also DRK was usually described as being offensive to the point where they harm themselves to attack, and in XIV, its a Tank. Ship's already sailed there
yeah they could just make all of the most anticipated jobs tanks, then run their characteristics over with a bulldozer just to make it be a tank with the same tank abilities to make it a tank, so it can tank like the other 3 tanks that tank.
SCH was kind of a mistake why do you think we never got more jobs that shared classes. YP was trying something new.
WAR is op I don't think we need more like it. Our next tank might be offensive I'll give u that since our last was DRK n we gotta keep up with variety but Imo WAR is fine
