Why? Not all of them would work and such a move only encourages the developers to continue creating hairstyles to fit the 'androgynous' and 'feminine' aesthetics rather than the 'masculine' aesthetics simply through the very nature of trying to design hairstyles to fit every possible race and gender combination out there.
Personally I'd rather there be less focus on hairstyles moving forward given that we've been given a lot already since the game relaunched and other aspects of character creation have been neglected as a result.
They can still unlock all hairstyles and release masculine hairstyles aswell. I too want more faces, tattoos etc, but SE has said that the memory blablabla is full on those parts, that is why Au Ra can not mix faces and horns.
Customization in general is very lacking in this game, but unless they fix the hardware/software issue that keeps being mentioned, I see no new faces or extra stuff like beards etc.
I agree. Of all aspects of the game currently, I'm not hoping for an improvement in hair styles..
I don't see what benefit could come from removing gender restrictions either.
If anything, adjustments for clipping are what need to be addressed, not a lack of hairstyles. Because we have a lot.
The amount of hairstyle variety in this game is actually quite pathetically low actually. I mean heck there's literally trashy F2P MMORPGs out there with far greater hairstyle variety! It's pretty sad when a game you have to pay to play can't even manage to supply a greater variety of hairstyles and character customization in general.
Besides it's not like creating a few extra hairstyles would take away from the other development aspects of the game. Heck they wouldn't even need to bother thinking up more on their own if they just make all the runners-up of the hairstyle contest into actual hairstyles in the game.
I would like to ask for it all, more hairstyles, fix all clipping issues, remove gender/race restriction as well as addition of more customization options in total, all current options improved and expanded should be their goal. Kinda tiring to always have to settle.....imho, SE needs to stop being "settlers" before it catches up to them. -.-

I would love more styles but on the other hand i appreciate diversity between races and enjoy the differences. Would be nice if they paid more attention to clipping when designing hairstyles to begin with.
Instead of duplicating styles from other races/sexes, I'd rather they focus on new stuff for EACH race/sex.
There's no fun when everyone looks the same... I like the exclusivity of some hairstyles. You can say this or that hairstyle is a clan thing or some other fun storyline/lore head canon.
I'd like long hair styles...actual long ones, like Icehearts :/
Not necessarily. It can still have the same samey effect if everyone goes for the more popular choice.
Then you should definitely advocate allowing every style to be used by everyone.
Imagine you can make 5 hairstyles with a given amount of ressources. You have 5 races. Which yields more variety, giving all races access to all or making one cut for each race that serves as one and only option? Simple math: One yields 5 options whereas the other yields 25.
Furthermore, assuming you only play race X: How much value do the hairstyles or exclusives for race Y generate to you? Typically very little to negative value, because you cannot actually use them. They might as well not exist and you'd be no worse off.
So yeah...as long as a hairstyle can physically be pulled off by another race/gender, it should be available to it. IMO.
Why? Just cus u want it?
Races r unique and one of the most obvious visual proof to this statement is the hairstyles. Sure I'm jealous of Au Ra's badass styles, but that's Au Ra.
Stop begging for equality just cus u want it. theres two sides of the coin either u want everyone to be different or u want everyone to be equal but i say neither, go for balanced. WE get both race exclusive and shared hairstyles n honestly u should settle with that and be thankful SE released hairstyles as much as they do.
I asked OVER A YEAR ago for facial hair and u know what they said? A community rep told me they were pretty much too busy with hairstyles, which was popular demand.
They need to just section the hairstyles into like Front/Back and...I dunno how else you call it but side or extra stuff. Say take number 3s front with number 10s back and add a flower or bow or whatever. Would at least allow a lot more choices while not really taking or adding much but would allow much different styles all around. However I still say let us have em all. I am sure some Sephiroth play-boys out there would love long flowing silver hair. xD
That is SO great because by opening them up to everyone, you will see it far more often and thus get an even greater enjoyment out of it!
And the people who do not value content they are excluded from are happy too, because they are no longer excluded. I call win-win!
That's kind of what Fantasia is for. Or the obvious fact that you choose what you prefer when you make your character. People seem to take that lightly, but then believe they apparently care about customization later, like it's something that shouldn't be taken lightly... lol. What you refer to as "self entitlement" is exactly what gets in the way of getting what you want.
It's obvious that some people apparently prioritize customization in this game over all else for their things to complain about, but customization is clearly NOT the focus of this game. The longer it takes for people to realize this isn't some Skyrim clone, or whatever game offers a potential to prioritize visual customization, the more ignorant they become. Potentially heating up over this matter for XIV is not going to help get you what you want.
I daresay it's possible you may never get what you want, just based on what I said, and that's fine here... despite what you may believe. If the devs want there to at least be some aesthetic identities between the races, they can. Coming from an old school mentality, they probably should too.
I said this is a previous topic about this and I'll say it again. I'm really against this because it removes race/gender identity. It's bad enough that each race (minus Lala) were created off the Midlander body design and slightly modified. At least with the hair restrictions, there is some form of identity. It's just as bad when people ask to hide the tails from Miqote/AuRa. If everything looks or has access to the same thing, what's the point in having different genders or races? I rather SE add more to body customization because it's been severely lacking for about 3 years now. We need more diversity in this game. As it is, people want gear to look the same between male and females. That's just a very pointless idea because as mention before, it causes the Dev Team to focus on one particular gender, to create short-cuts. How about more designs that make the races and genders shine, then having them look all the same via copy-and-paste?
I'd be happy if I can just have the Highlanders ponytail hairstyle.
But yeah, I feel there should be endless hairstyles from which to choose from AND customize.
Your logic makes no sense.
Group x has 10 hairstyles to choose from.
Group y has a different 10 hairstyles to choose from.
Group z has access to all 20 hairstyles.
The odds of a group x member having the same hairstyle as another group x member are 1:10.
The odds of a group y member having the same hairstyle as another group y member are 1:10.
The odds of a group z member having the same hairstyle as another group z member are 1:20.
It's inane to think that opening up all hairstyles to all races will make everyone look samey.
I don't think people are asking to take away people's individual name's. They merely want more options to style their hair. And taking from other races options would be more cost effective then waiting a few months for 1 or 2 new ones. Furthermore it gets even more skewed when you factor any female can don Minfilia's/Lightnings hairstyle and any male can don Snow Villiers. Isn't that taking away from those characters individuality?
Race and gender locks are fine as long as you have the same amount of options as some one else. I would prefer they make something new (either for all, or a set number per race/gender) rather than make what little racial aesthetic flavour we have be diminished further.
No, he's just bitter over the fact that when he apparently asked over a year ago for facial hair he was told they were too busy with hairstyles which were more in demand. So now he's pretending his reasoning has anything to do with caring about racial individuality, when he's actually just taking out his frustrations against people who want more hair options.
I have my doubts that there's going to be much in the way of 'equality' in this game when it comes to character creation options. A lot of the 'new' hairstyles that are available for both genders end up looking very androgynous or feminine as a direct consequence of being designed to fit both genders and numerous different playable races. Then there's the fact that the Minfilia outfit on the cash shop comes with an exclusive hairstyle for women - which is fine because it'd look ridiculous on male characters - but the male equivalent, Cid's outfit, doesn't come with either his hair or beard despite there being quite a lot of people expressing a desire for some new facial hair options for male characters.
Then there's the push to make gender locked dresses available to male characters as well...which doesn't really do a whole lot to bring about 'equality' since it doesn't solve the issue of a lot of new gear being designed quite obviously to fit women first and foremost.
I reckon the whole androgynous or feminine look is a reflection of how males are in countries like Japan and Korea. In a way it kinda makes sense that this image is being reflected to this game. While Japan is still hush hush with homosexulity and transsexuality, they are pretty oke with androgynous or feminine look, because this is a look that alot of the young adult idols are showing.
Then there is the whole cost of making a hairstyle and if its cheaper to make 1 hairstyle that fit both genders, then its no suprise that they would go for a more feminine hairstyle. The same can also be said for shared gear. In the end its more acceptable for females to have masculine traits then males having feminine traits and this is probably why they are OKE with females having male outfits, but not males having female outfits.
I do agree with you that Cid"s armour should have included his hairstyle and beard, but I think they might have left those out, because Cid is still using the same hairstyle and beard. It would not suprise me if we see Cid with a new outfit in 3.3 or 3.4.
