To new healers.

Dear newbie healers,

If your tank loses threat on his mobs, and they come towards you.

DON'T RUN IN BIG CIRCLES!

Doesn't help AT ALL. Just go to the tank and let him grab aggro back. You make both yourself and the tank look like circus clowns when the mob chases you, and the tank chasing the mobs in circles.

Unleash the inner warrior in you and show the tank how to tank
Heal yourself and spit at the face the monster that try to have a piece of your Ass

And remember, the heal are the one who decide who win the battle !
And you're not going down until you choose to go down.

OR you could say f*ck it, heal yourself, pop CS and show 'em how it's done with a Quickcast Holy > Assize > Aero3 to grab EVEN MORE hate, turn off cleric stance and tank like the true boss that you are.

I had to giggle but you forgot to add divine seal and presence of mind to make heals even more potent so more hate and cast also regen and asylum on top of it :p

This should apply to the dps aswell, I remember losing agro back in my tanking newbie days and the dps players would always run away from. Today, I was doing a dungeon and I was going to do a big pull, then the healer threw a regen one me while I was pulling the first mob. The rest of the flock turned their agro towards the healer and started running towards him/her. I tried to cast a flash or shield lob, the healer kept running away from me, which made the mobs run away from me aswell. After 5 minutes of running around like headless chickens, the healer noticed I was running after her and she/he finally stopped running and came to me. I got agro, explained him/her to not regen and always run to me when they have agro and we moved on and finished the dungeon without any issues.

I remember a few times, in other games, I would end up sitting in the middle of the room waiting for whoever it was that took aggro to stop running around so the tank could catch up and grab the mob. In fact, until I'm comfortable that the whole group is knowledgeable enough about basic crap like this I won't use any gap closers.....I'll save them, in case I need to chase something down after the tank regains aggro.

I am a "in my first month of the game" healer. I try to run any mobs that spawn and fall for me over to the tank, but in some boss fights the tank is busy and lots of enemy AoE is going off around the big bad so I may have to kite a bit while a DPS kindly nukes whatever is chasing me. :)

But yeah if the boss gets frisky with me I run straight at the tank, often hopping like a bunny. Or in that Big Bridge fight like a frog.

I got agro as AST a few tims even with *new changes to sects* sometimes i just stand there and heal waiting for tank to take back agro >.>

Good tanks will keep threat all the time :D. Bad tanks not so much or better yet tanks so need to make a hot remove macro so healers dont pull when ur chain pulling

I get what you mean, but wouldn't it make things easier/faster to recover if the healer were to stand still instead of both healer and tank running around?

This should be a task in the Novice Hall, monster come at you with aggro, you run to a tank npc that flashes repeatedly and make the tank pull the aggro off you or something.

I get pissed as a monk when this happens. Forget my positions, I can't even catch the damn thing.

I've seen some healers decide they're going to run all the way back to the start of the dungeon for whatever reason when a monster is on their tail, can't tell if it's genuine greifing but it's either that or what OP mentioned about running around in circles like a lunatic.

NO WAY! If I grab agro as a healer, all bets are off. It now becomes a race to the start of the dungeon. I turn and use sprint if I have to, but I am getting to the dungeon starting gate first! Woo Hooo!

Sometimes we have no choice >= I've had many a tank ignore a mob that I aggro'd, and it's either I pop sprint and run and try to live, or I just sit there next to the tank hoping they decide to do something.

Though yes, most times running next to the tank is the right answer.

This really sucks when the healer does this since with a dps that doesn't follow directions like that I just let them keep aggro and pick the mobs up when they die, but with a healer if I do that, I will die also.

It can be difficult to alter habits picked up from other MMOs. After years of it being customary to run away from the mob smacking you in the face, it probably won't occur to new healers, and damage dealers, to run TOWARDS the tank rather than away. I've often given out this tip to newcomers in the dungeons. And I've started to apply this in other MMOs as well. Which makes things interesting for other players, as they're not accustomed to having the one whom stole aggro to run towards the tank.

Short story: when I was leveling my WHM in cutter's cry, I got aggro from the adds at the queen and ran them right to the tank, who then did nothing to take them off of me. I was dead in seconds.

When I asked why he didn't pick up the adds, he told me I was expected to kite them, or what new healers know as "running around in circles."

Yeah. You actually are expected to kite those adds, but people generally ask beforehand. I usually just spam regen on myself and the tank and run around the entire area. If your team is competent enough the Princess should be down in like 30 seconds.

Yeah, that's one of the few instances where healers should kite because it makes the encounter easier. Glacier Sprites in Sohm Al is another great example. Sometimes abusing that heal aggro makes things easier on the party as a whole. :3

I only use Fluid Aura as like... an "execute", if you can call it that. I only use it when I know the mob will die form it, or almost die (which I then just cast Aero to kill it).

Yup, totally get that and would have been happy to had I known. I'm actually really good at kiting.

My post was just an example of how important communication is. It has been beat into my head to run to the tank if you pick up aggro, and this is a rare instance when you don't since there are more adds than can be slept. Die and learn, yeah? :p

Reminds me of leveling my WHM there. First run I kited the adds almost die (but hey at least the party is healthy,except me). XD

Second run, everything was smooth until chemira, which I was busy myself with a bit dps here and there, keeping the party healthy again forgot my own health ( also forgot to see the boss moved which was my mistake), a party member died raise him also full hp. Rinse and repeat till boss at 5% and I died. XD good time.

Maybe we could have a sign for "tank please take aggro", like doing the Manderville dance. No, no... that should be the sign from the tank that says "Healer just kite it."

It's not just healers but most of the non-tank players I met. They think that those trash mobs could kill them. In fact, they couldn't, unless you're way too undergeared or letting them hit you like 20+ times.

Lol, I was lvling my monk in vault right before I posted this thread. The WHM was running in circles with the PLD chasing. BLM and I just stood in the middle of the circle watching. I couldn't be bothered to chase the mob with them.
