Okay so we know that there's gonna eb a Yo-Kai Watch event coming, (something I'm excited about for some reason) and from a Doylist perspective we know how the event happens (Yoshi and Level-5 CEO being the cause)...its the Watsonian perspective that has me curious. I'm wondering how the event would happen in-universe.

As far as my headcanon is concerned? I like to think that, just like there is a confirmed "Simpsons Bubble" for time, there's also a "Hildibrand Bubble" for canon. When a Hildibrand Bubble is created, it creates a nascent space that is within, but without, Eorzea. What happened in Eorzea happened in the bubble. However, what then happens in the bubble doesn't necessarily happen in Eorzea.
For example, Ul'dah unleashed the Traders' Spurn on Sil'dih and claimed it was their doing all along. That historical fact was brought into the bubble. Surviving an explosive to the face that then results in you falling into the ground from so high that you penetrate the soil and are buried up to your waist? Does that leave the bubble? Probably not.
Another example, prayer + crystals = primals. This was brought into the bubble. Gilgamesh wished for his friend back next to a box of crystals and summoned Enkidu. Did Urianger freak out about primal waveforms the next time you showed up? No. Was Enkidu any less a primal because he didn't follow the out-of-bubble laws within the bubble? Not at all. (He really does technically count as a primal within that bubble; it's confirmed.)
Hell, most of the holidays happen in Hildibrand Bubbles; think about how many kabuto enthusiasts you've met "this year". The lore team does the best they can to blur the edges of the bubble. You might not even notice the bubble is there. But sometimes, that membrane really, really matters, lol.
I'm just going to assume in advance that there is now a Yo-Kai-themed Hildibrand Bubble. -

Personally, I'm more disappointed that they didn't manage a collab while Inazuma Eleven or Danbooru Senki were still relevant (as in, the ones I've actually played). The former actually managed inter-dimensional travel to crossover with the latter, so it would be a simple question of whether they thought the bus or the train would work better... </giantfanboy>
Yo-kai Watch, from what I know of it, hasn't made it past the time-travel stage yet, but I guess being a mons series has the advantage of not needing to adapt any art styles.
Either way, I doubtKeita*ahem* Nate will be appearing in person, but there's already confirmation of the Yo-kai Watch itself. I'm guessing it'll be something along the lines of "generic NPC relases ayoukai--*ahem* yo-kai and is granted the titular watch, while the WoL gets one at the end of the quest chain for reasons."
Unfortunately, the Doman Braves don't exist until level 50, or I'd say a crossover with pretty much any modern Level-5 property would fit right into their usual antics. -

With Greg, the whole thing with Enkidu (in the greater Erozea) was wrapped up quickly so there was no need to raise the alarm in the end. Also the warrior of light was there so no one will ever look at the report again if it was made. Godbert seems to be a mainstay of the Christmas event like some of the stories seem based on his anonymous charity work. The pumkin head NPC in Halloween seems to be real. Like everything else nobody is aware of the imps or that NPC or the event being part of something more complex. You are there because some how you're dragged into it like everything else.

Probably like the Shantoto or Dragon Quest events. Someone needs our help to catch a bunch of roaming ghosts accidentally summoned. We then need to Fate farm tokens to get the event items like the Lightning Returns event. All while wearing that bracelet that looks like a Yokai watch.Quote:

To be honest I'm hoping the developers just make this 'crossover' events into something fun but not necessarily canon. When FFIX launched there was an advertising campaign based around Coca Cola to spread the word. That doesn't mean FFIX was in any way linked to Coca Cola (and the game wouldn't be nearly as awesome as it is if something like that suddenly cropped up halfway through playing the game).
I think I'm concerned because 'Hildibrand' type quests are no longer contained to a specific set of quests. The over the top facial expressions and 'humour' is leaking elsewhere and that's precisely the sort of problem that made me grow weary of WoW - because despite all the decent lore it ended up being overshadowed by cheap gimmicks and silly quests. I'm worried FFXIV will go down the same route. -

While there is lore in the quests that makes it into the main game it doesn't neccesarily mean the silliness is canon. Again, personal preference. For example Briardien's appearance outside the Hildibrand quests still has him have his characteristic body language but he isn't there in a comical role and the questline itself is quite serious as a drama.Quote:

I would argue that WoW's biggest problem was it story completely lost a sense of cohesion. Stuff didn't make sense and often seemed either to contradict established facts or were done without taking into account other aspects of the story that made characters who were supposed to come across as wise or brave as foolish, bigoted or violent.
I don't think FF14 is going to go down that root. The MSQ has never really veered into the silly (except with moogles) during HW and generally SE has been pretty good at keeping its silly from it's serious. That said it is a FF and all FF games have had both silly and serious parts to them. Its a credit generally to FF games that they do it without diminishing the drama and depth of the story. -

He's officially a syndicate member, so we know he exists. And yet the Gold Saucer is never spoken of outside of the Saucer itself, story arcs related to it, or holiday events. It's like the Fight Club of Eorzea. Assuming Hildibrand Bubbles exist outside of my own way of making sense of the world, the edges of Godbert's are a little too clean to run a highlighter over.Quote:

It may help to consider the "Hildebrand Bubble" stuff as though it were a story being related by the Minstrel - though unlike the Minstrel's Ballads, which were exaggerated for action and drama, these episodes were exaggerated for comedy. All of the Hildebrand adventures DID happen; there was a mysterious thief, two detectives on her trail, and maybe a few comic escapades along the way - but the truly outrageous stuff? A goldsmith rebuilding a vase from fragments? The blackened-face explosions? Mile-high spinning piledrivers? All embellished for humor.
While it's true that it's never made explicit that the Minstrel is relating these stories, given that the Minstrel is hinted to be a stand-in for Yoshi P, one could argue that the entire game is already a story told by the Minstrel... -

Maybe, since some one is talking about the Hildibrand bubble, I think the bubble is maybe not there. Maybe all the events with Hildibrands craziness, are just ignored. Like people hear about and say ' Na that can't happen, lets forget about it" or someone does believes it but doesn't want to touch it even with a 10 foot stick. Maybe people are thinking " Okay there's way to much craziness going on, maybe we should just stick with the craziness that can actually kill me", so the main story stuff is tolerated while Hildibrand is ignored and locked away in the back of the mind( I love Hildibrand btw).

Only a couple days after announcing the Yo-kai Watch x FFXIV collab, Akihiro Hino decided to mess with my heartstrings by teasing more Inazuma Eleven. If this partnership is going to be a thing now, I'd love a collab event that unlocked emotes based on those special moves. Who doesn't want to flashily kick soccer balls at AFKers in Idleshire?

Strange, this is. The target demographics for Yo-kai Watch and this game hardly overlap; the former is by far the lightest 'mons series I've yet seen (probably aimed at kids 6-12), while the latter is developed primarily for older teens and up.
