So to start off let me say, I love logging onto this game, I love my character and I love most of the world and the community. However the actual system of the game is flawed, and here is what I think it is.
There is no actual midcore content once you get your iLvl high, regardless if you do savage, or lore/midan gear. What is midcore content? For me its basically content that does not require the best of the best stats/gear, overly complicated choreography like savage, and does not require a static to complete. It is also content that can not be steam rolled, and memorized, and has rewards outside of raising your artificial ilvl. As it is right now, if you complete savage, then what do you do? If you don't enjoy savage but have a high ilvl from midan and lore tomes, what do you do besides that? Sure you can do stuff you already have in the game, like doing your relic (which is essentially repeat content) do your dailies, level a new character, do gathering and crafting, but your new shiny gear isn't being used at all.
I'm earning all of this new shiny stuff and not putting it to good use. There is no middle ground in the game, you either do the faceroll content or the headbanging on keyboard content. The one thing that could've been good for ilvl is PvP, but its synced to like 150? Why? If everyone could theoretically get their ilvls to 220-230 why sync us? So PvP is out. Diadem tried to be midcore, but it quickly became a diabloresque grind fest, that again, was faceroll. I understand that it may be difficult to make midcore content, but I capped my tomes in 2days, I didn't even play that much. Then I found myself logging on with little motivation to do stuff, sure I got a few lvls on lower jobs, got a few crystals for relic, but it became draining, its stuff I've had to do a hundred times. The more classes you cap to 60, the more tedious the game will get.
Does anybody else feel the same way or am I just crazy? It feels like there is content missing in the game. Something I should be doing when I log on but its not there. I just got my sexy lore staff, I wanna blow something new up with him. It may also be the artifical limits SE imposes on us, like a week long tomes cap, or how many times you can roll on gear in a week. You can basically cap lore, and get your Midan drops in one day. Thats no bueno. And since the game is subscription based, SE isn't losing anything from you not logging on for those next 4-6 days. Problems of a theme park game I guess. I just enjoy the game a lot, but its a weird empty enjoyment lately. I log on expecting something exciting but its not there.
Thing I really enjoy in the game are the Fate bosses in the open world, like Odin, coeurlgina, Ultima, an dbehemoth. Maybe its because I haven't done them much due to how they spawn but theres always something epic about them. 24man raids were cool, specifically CT (which really got me into the game) VA was okay, but not CT status fun. CT also didn't feel as faceroll as VA. Now VA lasts for like 15minutes. It could be added to expert roulette at this point.

Lately, I've found that "midcore" is actually getting some pretty decent treatment. Void Ark (Cuchullain in particular) and Alexander (both Midas and Gordius) both presented mechanics that you couldn't simply faceroll at time of release. You could go in there with random pick-ups, but folks needed to know what they were doing and actually cooperate in order to succeed. Certainly, as gear ilvl increased the ability to start ignoring mechanics presented itself, but that's more or less inevitable.
As for "rewards outside of raiding your artificial ilvl" - what did you have in mind? Glamour? Glamour and ilvl are pretty much the only things this game has to offer, and that limitation is is one of its weaker points. That has nothing to do with -core, though - it's the same across softcore, midcore, and hardcore. -

we need content wich makes use of the high ilvl we have besides the savage raid. all "casual" content gives us gear wich is nothing worth outside of hardcore content. but even with that gear most people will never be able to beat the hardcore content. we need easier content wich makes use of the high ilvl without ever trying to push us into the hardcore content.

Swapping out different bosses could be cool so each run isn't a copy paste of the last. More difficult things to accomplish in the open world, that spawns at a reasonable rate, maybe once a day rather than once a week. Tougher monster that drop items in the open world that have some worth.Quote:

Pre 3.0 I was never really that pve focused, I spent pretty much all my time in game focusing on pvp and end game crafting. Pve really didn't interest me that much until I walked into T5, that's when I actually started to like raiding. What really started to kill my drive was rng, beating T10 well over 100 times probably close to 200 and not getting the one drop I was actually there for...I gave up with T10 and moved on to T10, beat that over 100 times and once again NO DROP. Yeah fuck coil.
I went to pvp and stayed there till feast, it was a real shame to see what SE did to crafting with all the lockouts and worthless gear that could be made so I didn't bother continuing crafter (plus I had enough gil that I didn't really need to craft).
During 3.0 pvp held my attention, but SE pls...you rekted pvp with feast. I actually moved servers in preparation of the ranking so I could join a more pvp focused server for premades, then the news came out premade matchs were separate rankings and diamond rank meant 0 in terms of rewards (thanks for that). So the only way to get these rewards is solo queue, no worries I'm a pretty decent healer I can carry these randoms....oh nice this dps is afk (hi just here for eso and cap lore) yeah fuck pvp.
What had kept me entertained for so long has been crushed, at least thankfully this time around crafted gear is decent.
I have started to see what pve really has to offer now and have managed to secure myself a static, we got a5s down Sunday and moving on with our a6s progress but outside of that I find content (once learnt) is just too easy and limited, all we have that's classified as hard is Thordan and seph ex. It's already over geared and trival.
The ilvl gains are just too damn fast and makes all other content face roll, on top of that there really isn't many choices. There's no special stats, there's no special abilities it's just stack you relevant secondaries as high as you can go.
Now you don't need the best gear for your class outside of savage but hey it would be nice to have that option, I main blm but have started to take a liking to drg. Although I will be only using drg for seph ex below I would still like to have the best gear drg can use, but at least this time around crafted gear is pretty good.
Everyone hates the comparison but ffxi had a lot more content to offer, diadem, as many expected, was going to be a bit like dynamos with it's time extensions and stuff but instead was just stack Dino island and zerg for 90mins. (O look no credit 3 dps are gathering for their own profit)
Things like nyzle island, sky, znms, nm, sea all kept you busy. You could even make your challenges like soloing nm's, if anyone remembers avesta from ffxi.
Right now as it stands the only mid core content is Thordan (even though it's silly over geared now) and seph ex.
I'm finding myself running low on things to do in this game, I really don't want to turn into a raid logger but with how little there is actually to do I feel I may go this way. -

Small group content is my jam, and while having a static would make it easier, I feel like being able to cheese mechanics and ignore tankbusters shouldn't really be possible in an instance until the next gear tier. -

I went with a small party before and got to do some actual exploration, which was amazingly fun, but there weren't really any exciting rewards to go along with the exploration. We were so disappointed when we went into one of the caves, fought all the mobs, and all that was there was a chest that dropped an unimpressive piece of gear! ｡ﾟ(*´□`)ﾟ｡
I'm still enjoying the game, but I'm struggling to find a reason to bother raising my ilvl when all it really does is save me 5 minutes off an expert dungeon and prepare me to be 30 ilvl higher than the next set of dungeons coming out in the upcoming patch.
(doesn't help that the lore gear makes me look like a sardine...haha)
I wouldn't mind if the next tier of Shadows of Mhach was a little bit more like LotA or WoD. With the weekly quest sending me back to those raids they definitely feel way more exciting than Void Ark does since there's some mechanics that require people to be (semi) awake. -

I think my issue with the lack of mid-core content is the lack of steps on my vertical progression path.
As it is now, i feel like I am walking uphill, uphill, downhill, and then all of a sudden rock climbing to the top. It would just be a much more fun experience if you worked your way up with progressively more difficult content at each step.
Right now it's ->
(2) Void Ark for Eso upgrades to 210
(3) Midas for 220
(5) Seph EX
(1) Expert Roulette for 230
(10) Savage for 240
The numbers on the left are to represent relative difficulty, where it would be much nicer if we went 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10, instead of 2 3 5 1 10 -

even if they add mi-core content , that content life cycle is so short.... SE needs to add content that can last more than 2 days...and isnt superhard... i wont mind farming tomes on it (cough Diadem .... :( )
VA: Easy and boring , forced for the materia V
Expert : Easy nd boring , farm lore
Alex normal : Dont bother anymore (still do M4 for the gear meh)
Trials : Once are on farm and u kill it 10 times no point going back outside 0,2% birds
Savage: the only thing that last more than days , because is hard and req coordination ...but is 4 turns, for 6 months...
Hunts : LAWL no comments
and thats all u can do at max lvl....for DOW/DOM that let u "advance" somehow... -

Except we only get 1 of these sort of fights every patch cycle, and Alexander's tuning is adverse to people who don't want to commit a lot of time but are still longstanding players. They could have the final fights for each raid tier be hat hard, but at that point it really justifies it. When every fight is tuend that way (or worse, tuned with a disappropriate curve, or where future fights are arguably easier), it becomes a pacing issue.Quote:
