Crafting in 2.0 and beyond!

As a level 50 carpenter, all I do is either make bows that nobody wants and spears everyone wants. In 2.0 I really want to be able to make furniture for mog-houses, ls housing, airship parts.

Who else would be interested in doing some crafting for houses and airships, instead of making some armor and weapons.

If possible I would like all the crafting classes to have a roll in crafting things for air ships, and housing.

An Alchemist, and goldsmith, could make the Myst-reactors for airships, if that is what airships run on in ffxiv.

Blacksmiths, could make crafting stations for player/ls houses, with the help of carpenters.

Armorers, could put, armor on the airships.

Weavers, could make the sails, and cushions for seats and beds.

Leatherworkers, could make all the belts that help drive the airships, make nice leather seats for houses and airships.

Alchemist, could make potion facilities for houses, and Myst the fuel source for airships.(again unsure if that is unused in ffxiv)

Culinary chefs, what would a ls/mog house be with out a well stocked fridge, buy at your own risk. :p


Goldsmiths, could make high quality pieces to furnish your house with.

These are just a few Ideas I had while writing this, I am calling on the community to help get some ideas, and maybe one of the mods can come and send these ideas to the Dev team.

Can you build a bridge and gtfo of here?

i think they should have us building war machines like airships for grand companys

I think this been the idea sense release but they never got around it. Free company was going to be release around the start of 2011 but ended up switching to a new team. So everything that follow got delay and i guess now they going back with the things they said they going to add for us.

I remember that, but now that the Dev team seems o be going in another direction, I question if these ideas are still with them. These idea were what really interested me in November of 2010, and I am sure there are many members of this community that would be interested in these still being implemented in the future. To show the Dev team that we are still interested is why I created the thread.

There will definitely be more things to craft especially with the new player housing coming up. Same as in ffxi with furniture but I fully expect there to be a lot more things to craft but as far as airships inside or outside of them.. definitely no. Airships are just like the water ferry's.. untouchable aspect of the game by players except to provide transportation.

Now maybe something for your choc and I could see a supply and demand for choc items and armor since they'll be fighting with us.

The old Dev team back in November of last year talked about adding in player run Airships, and the Player ran airships would go to all the docks out in the world.

Making the Discipline of Hand have more use than simply making small stuff sure is welcome! I, for one, support the ideas for this. :D

I love this idea, I think it would make the world feel more real, and more ran by the players.

You could have linkshell or player company quest where you craft parts for the airships after you craft a certain number of the parts, you can summon an airship to fly to points around the world.

Also I would love to have furniture for my house. Housing with nice furniture just makes the house feel more home, maybe you could invite friends over for dinner or something who knows /blush.

And hopefully they abolish the Random Number Game materia crap and replace it with some kind of skilful minigame or something that actually makes use of your abilities etc.

It would be cool if instead of LS housing they allowed Free Companies to claim non-instanced territory and build stuff on it - defenses and houses and an auction house. And perhaps limit auction houses to Free Company areas so as to provide some relevance to them as a gathering place.

Hmm this brings up a thought, what if players craft a generic piece of furniture, like bed couch armchair or something, but by adding materia, it changes the look of it.

We could use low level materia players aren't really willing to pay for. weapon materia and armor materia wouldn't really matter for furniture so just adding it give it a new look.

I never thought it would come to life that like, haha now that is silly. Soon players will be talking with their weapons and armor.

Crafters should be making Magitek stuff. Mounts, turrets and what have you.

Am I the only one who thinks way back to Puzzle Pirates beta and how each station and crafting had its own particular minigame? Yeah, that's my take.

i don't think it was the old team that was lying since there was already videos before release of making the turrets and cake. may be a good idea to look and see who to believe.

Was it a gameplay video though? All I remember with the cake thing was seeing 2 lalafell standing around doing little working animations then a time lapse with the cake being more complete.

FFS... they explicitly stated they would NOT be releasing player run airships. Tanaka said this.

What they said they were implementing was player-owned ships (like naval ships).

It would be nice if crafters had an impact on the non-instanced world, say:
1. 100 carpenter leves are done by the server at camp horizon/hamlet/settlement and we get a new...building etc
2. 100 alchemist leves ... and we get a new aethryte crystal
say, turning a settlement of one house and 3 npcs into a sprawling hamlet like Oaks Nest

but the downside is that the above can be attacked by garleans and beastmen (think campaign battle) and can be destroyed

"Regarding Local Levequests - these should have a bearing on evolving the camp. Buildings/Tents should be erected and services offered. An inn, a chocobo pen, a garden, etc. Basically merge the hamlets idea into Camps. The Camps at the present time are really not immersive because they all look exactly the same. Yeah I would call it lying. Look at the npcs in the guild they are doing some pretty impressive stuff. It wouldn't be too hard to just make them look busy around an unfinished cake model

Thinking doesn't mean it will happen. Also Versus XIII could do quite a bit and it's on the same engine as XIV, though I've never heard anything about personal airships.

It would be nice to see the results of crafting leves reflected in-game. Something like a hamlet defense that involves not just player DoW/DoM but also crafters influencing defenses and NPC effectiveness via crafted gear/consumables. Engines of war supplied by DoL and crafters. The better the defenses, the stronger the enemy force that is drawn in to the battle (like FFXI besieged levels). At some point the enemy wins and you have to start building up the defenses from stage one again.

How about building an airship that could reach Azeroth? Now that would be interesting. Cid!

I'd be down with crafting things beyond equipment.

Some people get so upset over stuff, really ellohwell, he doesn't work on the game for a reason, because apparently his direction the game was taking sucked.

Who is to say what the new direction of the game could take, they seem to want to take down the competition and create one of the best mmos to date. I'm all for it, but unless they do something that nobody as tried yet I don't see it happening.

I'm not saying my Ideas are law, heavens no, I just want something that players can work on together other than fighting monsters, or pvp (2.0).

Being a carpenter, I don't get much work aside from making spears for people or bows, and trying to get +3s on both, once in awhile I'll get a request to make some shoes, but this stuff is boring, I would like to tackle all types of carpentry. I have a feeling other crafters have the same feeling.

These are only ideas to maybe, start encouragement for the Devs to do something truly amazing.

Please take some Ideas to make crafting more interesting, nobody likes to sit in one spot for 20 days nonstop making the same stuff over and over.

Im not saying its impossible, im saying the statemrnt that SE were ever considering implementing player-owned airhships is blatantly wrong. No one ever said that, not least of all Yoshi.

On that note, the trend seems to be that SE are stripping more power away from players every day and putting all the emphasis on "structured fun" and "scripted events" so I doubt they would put any weight in a player-run airship feature unless it was some kind of instanced minigame or something stupid anyway.

I definitely see what you are saying, even if they could at least, let us craft a airship and this would let us travel to other contents once those are unlocked, or islands. Maybe make it so that would be the only way to visit the new content first.
(doesn't matter if it is a instants where to see yourself flying over water or land, or fast travel, that isn't what my focus is on) Just something to make crafting not so boring, a way to give the player like they are needed to access different parts of the game or a way to change the world.

your ideas seem fun, but I feel you are starting to get into a different game. Once you start building houses, airships etc. where does it stop? sounds like a SimCity type game. I would prefer them to just continue to come out with new recipes for gear and weapons that help us kill stuff.

Never build your own houses, just build furniture, so you could decorate your house, and from what I read of the post above it looks like they already had something planned like that, so that is great.

Airships would be more of moving to other lands, and exploring places that the npcs from your home region don't go. So you would just build it and it would give you more options at the airship docks. That is all.

Great news for people who cared about crafting more interesting stuff.

I spoke a little bit about housing in the 2nd edition of the LIVE producer letter. I personally came up with the basic design for housing. (We have separate staff working on the details, and I feel bad for them that I was so ambitious with my plans)
