Nidhogg is a part of the main story, so no, it will not match the difficulty of Bahamut.
Maybe they'll have a Nidhogg ex after the story, like thordan ex or ultima hard.
Not sure Dragonsong would go with Nidhogg, I personally think he should have a darker version of Midgard's music. If we ever have to battle Hraesvelgr, he should have Dragonsong as the battle theme.
I always thought nidgogg round 2 would be the same as the one from the arey, but without the de-buff from the eye.
Or maybe the final fight with him will be the arey hard mode dungeon.
Epic=challenge/difficulty by most players in this game. I won't expect anything too flashy.
So they're not going to put extra effort like with Final Coil because it's not designed to be for a tiny minority for players? That doesn't even make sense.....
I think they need to make it an 8 man trial (normal and then extreme) kinda the benchmark.
The only issue with that since there going 2 extremes due to the warring Triad and then Nidhogg ex. Although I suppose that can post-pone one of the Triads in favor Nidhogg ex/ or release Nidhogg ex much later on
Still, as enjoyable as a solo trial like vs Raubahn was ... I'd rather not Nidhogg follow that route
They want to make sure everyone can clear the storyline, if they have a fight like Bahamut in story, only the 'tiny minority' will clear it. 'Epic' fights require it to have risk, close calls and tough to beat. Not sure if you just want fancy looking moves in your terms of epic or not.
Edit: They could add an Ex version in similar to Thordan, but they don't seem to like adding in more than one at a time, and 3.3 will most likely have Zurvan, and 3.4 Sophia. I believe they said 3.4 will be the last of HW.
I think I'd like to fuel interject and just say... Neither of those, Save Thordan-EX, left much of an impression on me. But, even thordan-EX, when compared to Bahamut Prime, pales in comparison.
It's because Bahamut Prime was more than just a challenging fight at the end of a long road - it was the culmination of 1.0's ending, as well as 2.X's raid scene. It had everything going for it, and on top of that, it was challenge and a hell of a fight to overcome.
thordan? We didn't struggle in the least. Hell, people failing mechanics was kinda "Lulz", and it took away from the feeling of the fight. The only thing I felt that was good about Thordan (story) is how narratively complete it was - that is to say, the fact that the Boss basically goes into a "Blind Desperation" after his final attack. That was well done.
But otherwise, it was a foot note that I hardly remember. And that's partially because there's no challenge to it to make it feel "Built up to" for me.
I guess I can't really comment on it too well as I've never done T13, but they're up there with entering the fog door to the Lord of Cinder's room and hearing that music play for the first time while he charges right at you for me (Dark Souls). It did definitely leave an impression on me, that's for sure.
I'm assuming you're a 1.0 player? Given that, it's unlikely that anything is going to match up with Bahamut considering what he did and the ending of 1.x with the end of the world scenario. No matter how challenging they make Nidhogg, nothing will really compare to a dragon that almost destroyed Eorzea. We faced one of the most powerful Eikons alive, Sephirot, and that was a huge letdown because there was no build up or anything remotely intimidating about him (let's face it, we face giant monsters all time).
Just don't see how they could make Nidhogg on the level of Bahamut without having him torch every city state to the ground, but I don't think that's what the OP is asking for. More of a flashy fight, amazing atmosphere and with perfectly fitting music, or something similar at least.
