Exception for Military Deployments, Extreme medical situations

I have been with a Final fantasy fan for my entire life. Also i have been with Square Enix for over 10 + years since Final Fantasy xi. I got Deployed and Lost 2 houses, mine and my Wife's She only plays the game with me. There should be some exception for military members. Not just come back and GM says I'm sorry for the inconvenience. This is insane especially for die hard fans to come back and find your house has been demolished. at least change it that if u pay the subscription fee you can still keep your home, but to log in every 45 days is attack on all military final fantasy players. If your fighting a war u can not LOG IN!!!!!!! Also if you have a medical condition and are hospitalized its unfair to punish people who have illnesses. This makes me not even want to come back because not only are there no more houses for sale all the wards are full. But also i can not get any of the hard earned gil i made back. THIS IS NOT FAIR FOR ANY MILITARY PERSON!!!!

There's pretty much no way they're going to make an exception. What they should do is change how the system works. Not getting any of your gil back is definitely the worst part.

This is just my personal opinion so take it at that.

I think it should be tied to your account status/activity/whatever you want to call it. In that not that you have to walk into your house every X many days or you lose it, but as long as your account is current and paid for you are ok. That way as long as you are paying for your account you could take a nice long vacation without having to care what happens to your little imaginary home. I mean you pay rent for your house/apartment in real life and you get to live there. So it would make sense that if you pay rent/game time in this game you get to live there.

Now if this really is how it works and I just slept through that detail then yay. I always thought you had to go visit your house within X amount of time no matter what (currently paying or no).

But keep in mind I am terribly sleepy if this makes no sense to anyone but me!

I have never understood why someone who continues to PAY for the game & its content loses it because they log on. I also think that Military members should have the option to suspend their game time & face no penalties. In the UK almost all utilities & services offer this option as it's recognised that military personnel are not in control of their deployment & are doing a wonderful service for the greater good. It's actually rather disappointing that SE don't offer this. Maybe worth getting a military support service to discuss it with them.

Why did your wife just not log into both your accounts to save your homes? What happens with housing is well known by now. The information has been sent to you over, and over, and displayed on many websites and blogs. (Maybe she was also deployed).

I think it may be taking it a bit too far in saying this is an 'attack on all military final fantasy players'.

There's no feasible way for SE to implement a military exception. Either it's on the honor system, and everyone is all of a sudden military, or it requires a level of verification that would throw up privacy and and other hurdles for an international company.

But yes, reclamation should have been based subscription, not on entering the front door.

Jokes aside, how the h*** would you implement this? Just be common there is so much stuff being unfair in the world besides loosing a virtual house. I think you know this more than me.
But there are rules and systems in place, you surely can´t make everyone satisfied, so if it don´t fits you, find a way to fit it...

Assuming 45+ days of coma after an accident is surely nothing to calculate into a business plan, still people wake up after years and don´t have their lives shattered, they have friends and family who took care of their agenda...

The changes were made after i had already left. NO ONE KNEW ABOUT IT!! i just found out about it now when i came back and logged in to find everything gone. These changes did not exist 7 months ago before the deployment.

Alright, let's assume neither of you follow patch notes, or forum threads, etc. etc. Are you then telling us that in the time you were deployed neither you nor your wife could be bothered to check your emails? You would have both been sent notifications to the emails registered to your respective accounts.

I've known many a service member, and they almost always, at some point in a month, have access to basic internet for things like email. And, unless you're telling us that your wife was also deployed and didn't have email access there is no reason she would not have been informed about the decay timer counting down.

I have 1 Square Id that is connected to 2 ffxi handles and 2 ffxiv accounts so we can play at the same time for over 10+ years. I'm not sure how your comment helps the thread at all. Should i be punished because i am married. This isn't just about me!! I'm sure I'm not the only person who lost their online homes. The point is if you pay your subscription you should not lose any in game items. Also "deployments" to Europe and Japan are not Combat tours, and I am a Marine. I'm not sure who you know and what branch of service they are in, that allows them to play games and take all day to look at the dev threads and play with their email.

Ironically, allowing her to do that would have been a breech of the ToS & could have gotten both accounts cancelled. The system needs changing, not circumventing.

Why not? They already require proof of ID, like copies of passports, at times when things go wrong. I also imagine that every military person has a unique ID number they could use for verification somehow, just like students do.

The issue isn't whether or not it's possible for them to. The issue is getting dozens of countries to verify details about their military service members to a foreign corporation.

"Sure foreign entity, here's the private info and deployment schedule for our citizen soldiers."
"You'll need to verify that through our military liaison to online gaming."

I'm sure I don't really understand so I apologise in advance for any offence I may cause in asking, but isn't going into the military optional? Or is it required in your country?

If it's optional though, isn't that essentially a job that you chose to do? (which apparently comes with rather severe restrictions if you don't even get Internet access in your downtime which seems rather unfair working conditions?)

Regardless of whether or not the military is optional and whether or not the wife should have known to log in on both accounts, it's ridiculous to punish people for extended leaves when they don't have control over it. I was a big proponent of SE putting in some sort of reclamation, but I always wanted it tied to the subscription. As long as the person was paying their sub, they should keep their house. Tying it to a subscription allows people like military personnel and others who have to physically step away from the game for a while to still keep their stuff and pick back up when they are able to come back. This system they have now is way too harsh.

Instead of people ragging on the OP for something he had no real control over, how about they put pressure on SE to make housing available for everyone so there isn't problems like this.

Back when these changes were first implemented, i remember the first thought i had was "What if i get deployed?" I do own a house in game, however, i believe SE had to have considered players in this situation and decided on a time frame they thought was best. Even if they doubled the decay time it still wouldn't cover the fact that most deployments OCONUS are around 13 months. I understand your position on this, but it is what it is.

That sucks Op, but in case you weren't aware there is an NPC in the housing wards (I think they're at every entrance in each ward) that has all your housing furniture plus 80% of the gil you & your wife spent on your Plots. So hopefully it's not a complete loss, plus new housing wards will be added soon & Apartments. While it doesn't give you back your exact plots hope that helps.

And as far as the future goes, until SE fixes it all you or your wife would have to do is just log in and enter your house. Maybe use something that is tied to the house (play an instrument, eat food that's placed out, turn on shower head, etc..) & that's it. The reclamation timer will reset and you have another 45 days to do whatever.

you can only do this until 35 days after you lost your house. after those 35 days the money (and furniture) is lost forever.

This is the biggest bullshit about the system there is really.

Sorry you lost your house and all the contents OP.
I agree with the posters above, the present system is too harsh on people who have their houses reclaimed. I would like to see reclamation tied to subscription rather than entering the property.
If a house is reclaimed, there is no reason why all furniture should not be stored indefinitely. I don't think furniture should break if you are evicted from a room or your house is demolished either, it's not as if you are making a conscious choice.

To the people defending the system all I can say is, things happen and punishing players like this benefits no one. It might not affect you or anyone else you know today but it could well affect you in the future. We all have an interest in making this system fair and less punitive.

And when he signed up for FFXIV and bought a house in-game, those restrictions had absolutely no baring one way or the other as to whether he could keep his in-game house and items. The reclamation policy was made after he was already deployed.

If, at the time of purchasing his house, he was told that he had to have his character enter the house at least once every 45 days, and he knew his job wouldn't allow for that, and he bought it anyway, then he would be at fault. But that's not what happened.

We've known since the very start that housing reclamation was planned. It was in the 2.1 patch notes in December 2013:

(Personal housing didn't come along until later that's why it says about FC housing)

However because of players not wanting this, they went back to think about how to do it and as we all know it didn't happen in 2.2 after all. Then much later after we the players once again complained about the lack of housing and all the unused houses, they bought it back in again, announced it in October 2015 and the first houses were reclaimed at the end of December 2015.

How much notice do have to give? It's now been 5 months since they first told us, are you saying they should wait 5+ months for every big decision in the game? What about the person who doesn't read/check their email for 6 months?

As we alll know Final Fantasy XIV is an MMO and like all MMOs it is constantly changing. I don't want to sound rude, but you cannot play an MMO and expect things to stay the same with it, just because you're not playing for a period of time.

As someone who was part of the Canadian Forces, I can't see it being a direct attack on all military FF players - it's just chalked up to a flawed system that was flawed because people took advantage and hurt those who the houses actually mean something to. I'm not in the Army anymore and both my wife and I are always in game. Sorry it happened to you and I do hope that some kind of resolution is met. Though in that approach, I would of asked my wife to log in daily for me while I was deployed unless you're both military and deployed. This isn't an attack on you or anything like that, from a soldier to soldier stand point I am just inquiring.
