Crossing in to Vanadiel event?

How would you guys feel about an event where our characters can cross in to an updated version of a classic area (or even 3) of FFXI to "retrieve a relic" and obtain some vanity type reward?

Here's my idea in a nutshell:
- Some event NPC hears of an item from another world and wants to piece it together. - - The pieces are scattered throughout 3 areas from FFXI (we and the NPC don't know it's Vanadiel yet)
- The NPC has a naval map and thinks we may be able to sail there through a maelstrom in the ocean off the coast of Aleport.
- Upon traveling through this maelstrom, our characters are beached on the shores of Valkurm Dunes, complete with a graphically updated Selbina.
- The pieces are found in La Thiene Plateau, Konchtat Highlands, and Tahrongi Canyon.
- After obtaining the two pieces found in La Thiene and Konchtat, players are sent by boat to Mhaura, and then travel by mount to Tahrongi Canyon to retrieve the third piece.

- The NPC then tells you (by linkpearl) that our boat has been repaired and to come meet him/her once again on the shores of Valkurm.
- We take off back through the maelstrom and arrive back in Aleport. The maelstrom mysteriously closes back up upon entering Eorzea, fixing any issues as to why we don't return to explore this strange land more.
- The NPC forges the pieces back together in to whatever FFXI nostalgia item (maybe a glamourable relic weapon model for each class?) and gives it to you for all your trouble.

The event could be expanded on in future event patches, perhaps once a year; taking us back to some classic areas we loved from FFXI.

What do you guys think?

We already had 2 FFXI events. I don't see another one happening, but interesting idea though I like it.

Only if my character gets to meet my character and tell her "I'm taking your creed armor set, also Iroha says hi, also keep Shantotto in your own world because I don't want her conquering mine!!!)

I mostly just want ffxi updated to ffxiv graphics.. or honestly just a ps4 port of the game for that matter, I fail to understand why it hasn't already been done.

It could be neat getting to go to Vana'diel depending on how they do it, what the storyline is, what characters you get to meet. Can I bring a San d'Orian wall banner back with me? also I'm stealing some trust magic scrolls so I can summon ffxi npc characters to use in my party during dungeons so I don't have to bother with duty finder.

Also Prishe and Ulmia are coming home with me.
And Lilisette..
And Arciela...

Also Blue Mage
And Samurai.

And I need to tell Ayame and Kaede that they are a password for the ninjas guild. I bet Kaede would feel awesome for a year.

Also in seriousness it's a neat idea, but it would need a bit of explaining, Shantotto was able to cross in to our world because she is so absurdly overpowered that she can do that sort of thing out of boredom. Iroha had help from Altana (possibly, given the chain of events it sounds like it anyway, or that her method of going to the past in XI was able to also move her between worlds at the end of rapsodies)

Vana'diel is full of holes (seriously I still play and there are so many dimension/time holes in Vana'diel at this point that the world is like multiverse swiss cheese, you can't walk five feet without running in to something that is going to suck you into another dimension or send monsters from one, its worrisome.)

A few of those holes linking Vana'diel and Eorzea would not be too farfetched.

From my understanding, it was an interloper from Vanadiel, not the other way around. I think it would be the first time an MMO did anything like this.

XIV already has a lot of similar textures in hi-res to build the old environments. It would take some resources, but they wouldn't have to start from scratch if they can tweak the existing models and place them in accordance with the layout in XI's areas. Anyway, you're probably right that it won't happen, but I had a dream one night that was similar to this. It inspired me to at least throw the basic idea out there. Who knows? Maybe SE will read this and think it's a cool idea.

I've played a lot of MMOs, but the main 3 are XI, WoW, and XIV. Azeroth is an amazing world, as is Eorzea.. but Vanadiel is like the street I grew up on.

They wouldn't design an entire new area just for a temporary event; that would be a huge resource investment for something so ephemeral. The crossover events we've had so far have all been one way precisely because it means they only have to design character models, not environments.

What if they were done well and contained optional means of progression?

What if they had HNM's from FFXI that you could farm pop items with your FC to spawn them and get loot?

For example, you get the item needed to spawn a super strong Valkurm Emperor that drops a super spiffy Emperor's Hairpin with XIV stats? Konchtat could have a really strong Stray Mary that drops a Bard bow instead of a horn.

Would that be cool?

We already had a couple FFXI events. Let's let another game from the series have time in the spotlight with a seasonal event.

Yea or they could just spend that development building new things for Eorzea..... Your time would be better off just revisiting the street you grew up on rather than trying to rebuild it on your new block. It would be cool, yes, but it just wouldn't be an efficient use of resources. Once the event was over that area would become inaccessible when the devs could have made something else that was permanent instead.

The only new area we've ever gotten for an event was last year's anniversary event where we visited the devs' office. That area was constructed almost entirely out of existing assets though; there were only a couple of minor models that were created especially for it. It was also an interior map that likely used a tile-based prefab structure in the engine, whereas an open region as you describe would require a lot of terrain modelling and extensive testing. It's just not feasible unfortunately.

I would like a zone from Vanadiel with the farm system LOL I know..I know...>.>

But hear me out...

I just want a zone with force pops like sky/sea ; ;

No, just no. This obsession certain players have with wanting FFXIV to be FFXI in HD graphics is now manifesting in strange ways.

Besides, SE stated that they will not be doing any more fanservice crossover raids/dungeons/areas etc (in other words, an area that is directly taken from a past FF game such as the Crystal Tower) so this will almost definitely never happen.

By reading this, I just remember that FF11 has free access this weekend!
Time to visit those old places!

I suppose. I'd rather do something like that than another vertical progression raid or farm tomes. I totally get what you're saying though and you represent the majority of players, I'm sure.

The street thing was a total metaphor. I definitely do not want to visit my old 'hood.

I wouldn't mind another crossover event from ffxi.

I would also like to have all the zone soundtracks from ffxi available for the orchestrion. (and those from any other ff that people enjoyed)
I do listen to the soundtrack frequently and still hop into ffxi for nostalgia moments as I refuse to end my subscription there but would really enjoy the music in my ffxiv "home".
