Is there something I can do about a corrupted FC?

Hi everyone,

I dunno if we can do something about it but...
I was from another Free Company, and they were building their airship just before I left... today I learned from a friend that left just a few days ago that they built all 4 set of airship parts (before 3.2) with the help of all the FC because he said the airship parts binded with an X airship... (he was the only one with acess to it and there is a total of 168 active members acording to Lodestone) so all the FC worked hard to build all the 4 parts, then sometime after I left the FC, the guildmaster locked the company chest to use as his personal, no one can get a single stuff from there, there is a full load of materia that he said he will gladly sell to his FC mates, and the sold all the now useless parts of the airship and stayed with all the money just as if he did it on his own...
Can I do something about it or this sort of corruption is ok since there is no law about who gets what from the Airship loot.

You already left, right? Move along and go about your business.

In Eve Online, they would laugh so hard about the idea of getting your stuff back they'd have a stroke.

Really all you can do is report them to a GM, explain the situation, and let them make a judgement call on if any rules have been broken. Otherwise leaving and blacklisting are your other options.

Now I remember that thread from not so long ago where a player reported a guy who stole from their FC chest and then left. And people were all like 'Haha your fault, the leader's fault, why give permissions' etc.... And what when leader fucks the entire FC over? Then what?! Ugh.... Idiots.

Report, and hope it gets fixed. Or just mind your business since you left. That's what you can do.

He isn't even in the FC, and heard of all the information second-hand. Suggesting he contact a GM is a complete waste of time, for both him and the GM. On top of all this, it's been shown time and time again these situations are within the rules, because of the permissions system with the FC chest.

There's no need for him to white knight over this or seek social justice. Again, he isn't even part of the FC he mentioned.

yes... I'm doing my own business right now... some of my friends from my ex raid party created a free company and I'm there with them, but it's kinda sad to see ppl taking advantage of others like that...

That isn't even for you to determine, it's for a GM to determine. That's why we have them. Especially for issues as complex as this is and involving as many people as it does.

He did that, because he knows that GM won't do anything. I saw a similar case long ago, wasn't my FC, but a friends one. The leader just kick everyone and sell the FC + house. Reported them. GM said that they won't interfer on personal issues between players (WTF).

It is a bit sad GMs have this politics about this. It wasn't a personal issue, it was a FC robbing. But, well, I don't know what are the GM limits.

It is sad that people feel the need to be greedy little assholes. Curious, but what exactly do you expect GMs to do in this type of a situation? The leader locked the chest and was selling items out of it, which is completely within their right to do. It would get so incredibly ugly if GMs tried to sort out all these little squabbles and issues.

What if a FC agreed to have the leader sell off all the items in the FC so that they could use it towards <whatever item/goal>, and then they all turned on the leader and reported him saying that he sold off all the items and stole the money? Who do you believe? How much time should be wasted on something so trivial when there are bigger fish to fry?

FC Leader Make the LAW for the FC they are the leader and don't need to do anything for anyone else. SADLY this is the case.
Rule of thumb. In EVERY MMO.

Anything done in a GUILD/FC Is at your own risk, and there is risk of return, on your investment.
a few times I've dropped 1m gil and 99 coke... knowning very well I was never going to see or use that gil again...
1 year + later my wife and I got promoted. When the Leader left and 2nd in command took over.

I believe the best way to cleanse corruption is with an exorcism.

The GMs aren't there to make everything better and sand off all the sharp edges. They're there to prevent cheating and fix problems cause by game bugs. What the FC leader did was awful. It was also entirely within the game rules. He did nothing the game was supposed to prevent him from doing. It's up to other players to choose the right FC Leader to trust and how much they'll commit to the FC. That's as much part of the game as having a healer you can trust on a raid--that's what it means to be a multiplayer game. The GMs can't avoid having politics about this, because it's a political issue. No matter what course they choose, it'll be political. Not touching it is in fact the least political thing they can do.

When you turn over items/money to an FC bank, you're in effect willingly giving it to anyone that is able to take from that bank.

Them exercising their rights and permissions that was given to them by the FC is totally allowable. GM's cannot possibly make a 'moral' judgement in cases like these, they're way too subjective. That's why there's concrete rules, and don't allow for interpretation when it's possible to do so.

It's likely that nothing will be done about it. Your best bet is to cut your losses and move into a different, healthier environment. It only takes one person to screw over an entire group of people - and events such as this have been happening long before MMO's first came to be. My advice would be to never give another player anything unless you're willing to account for losing it. It's why I don't let people 'borrow' stuff unless I'm willing to part with it completely. Even the closest of friends can screw you over if they so choose - especially online when people can more easily fake being trustworthy.

Had a fc leader that kicked everyone out, took everything from fc chest, gave leadership to his alt and skipped servers.

When asked about it by several members, the reply was that is was '(fc leader)'s right to do so' and ' nothing we can do'.

So yeah.

I'd just cut my losses and leave. If it's a smaller FC, having fewer people around means the leader is going to have to grind points for ceruleum tanks on his own. Seems fitting since he's the one keeping every last bit of what comes out of the airships.

It's funny how people say the FC leader is law and there isn't anything the GMs can do. That's entirely false, if something falls under the pretense of harassment the GMs will look into the matter. We had a FC here back in 2.X that would early pull hunts, legitimately early, with just them there and announce the location AFTER they kill it, sit there and wait for players to show up, then brag about it and move on to the next hunt. Soon enough the GMs started hitting them with suspensions, the FC leader encouraged them to keep doing it under the idea that "people who don't raid don't deserve hunt upgrade items." After a bit they started to drop off and the GMs eased off a bit.

Those were dark times on Jenova, literally the entire server verses a single FC. Not something we should be proud of at all

Would be nice if the GM policy of not getting involved in personal disputes was reworked at some point as this isn't even a case of stealing from the chest and running, but a situation where an entire group were being led to believe they were working for the benefit of the whole group when they were actually working to line the pockets of the one person at the top. Unfortunately that's also how the real world works. You won't likely be able to get much out of the GM as a third person, so your friend or someone else involved will need to contact a GM. Best you can do is blist the leader, he doesn't sound like someone you'd want to play with anyway.

That's weird. Early pulling hunts is clearly not against the rules. I didn't know false call-outs would be considered harassment, but I guess.

The original posters situation is definitely not harassment or reportable.

People need to stop reporting everything and wasting GM's time. Just because you don't like another player or how they do things doesn't mean they have any less right to play. Let's stop trying to get people suspended and go on our merry way.

Hunts are a gray area from what I recall the GMs saying, as they require communication and a server effort to spawn and take down, which I'm guessing they meant S ranks. This was with the first batch of hunts that they released, when people thought A ranks were tethered to fates and B ranks also mattered. It was a real bad time because not only would they kill it if they found it and then late call it, after a bit when people figured them out they'd give conflicting map locations in attempts to lure players away and make linkshells look unreliable.I guess the GMs just got fed up with and felt the need to step in and confront them because shortly after Ironworks was released you hardly seen any of these players around hunts or Mor Dhona.

I know it's not the same situation as the OP but thought I'd just share a brief moment of my servers history that if the GMs are needed to handle player conflicts they will do it but it takes a huge effort for them to even get to that level.

There's also the little hitch in the ToS that lines out everything neatly (which includes scamming- as SE states it, leading someone to believe anything that isn't true for your benefit. Which I assume can include calling out hunts that are no longer there intentionally, having a group of people craft something for you while you tell them it's for them, but with the intention of personal gain, or someone saying "I won't roll on that loot" and then, they do) and then at the veeeery end it says "Or anything else a GM may deem as harassment or infringing on someone else's enjoyment of the game," paraphrased of course. So idk why someone who is willingly being selfish and making the game worse for others, to make them game better for themselves, SHOULDN'T be punished. GMs aren't the cops, they don't have a set window to deal with things. They have logs of everything. You could get punished tomorrow for something you did months ago, if the proof is given. Imo if someone is willingly doing anything to better their experience, at the expense of someone else's, they should be addressed by a GM in a way the GM deems necessary, and the GM should be the one deciding what does or doesn't need to be done.

Tl;dr, there is nothing wrong with reporting anything you find suspicious or wrong to a GM. It's not like them taking 10 minutes to look into your issue is preventing them from ever addressing anything else that happened at the same time as your report.

Yes, I agree report suspicious and flat out harassment behaviour. Not things such as an FC leader locking up all the FC chests.

Your quote is nice and all, but I feel this is more like bogus 911 calls -(i.e. http://www.mass.gov/eopss/agencies/s...911-calls.html). It is a detriment to have bogus reporting as it bogs down the system and prevents real action to be taken against real issues.

Further, this is more of a personal opinion thing, but I think less of someone who reports someone and gets them suspended/banned from the game for things such as early/false calls of hunts, than I do for early/false calls of hunts.

If someone is consistently false calling hunts, they will be found out pretty quick and people will just stop listening to them. However, with reporting and suspending this person, you're forcibly preventing their enjoyment. It's more vengeful than productive.

Nope, nothing you can do. GMs won't be interested in the slightest. Just chalk it up to a harsh life lesson.

unless I read it wrong, the FC was also tauntung others about it? If so, that's easily within the harassment rules and could attact discipline.

I once had someone say horrible and untrue things about me and my FC to pretty much anyone he could talk to. I saw it myself, and had around 3 other friends tell me about what he was saying. I reported this to a GM and they couldn't (wouldn't) do anything about it because A) I couldn't provide exact proof because I didn't document the date and times and B) a lot of the information was second hand.

I was pretty salty about it for a while but I appreciate the GM's don't have the time to find all of this information themselves. Unless you have exact proof of this happening and have experienced it personally, I highly doubt you can do anything.

Unfortunately, that is most likely true.

As a Free Company master, hearing about these situations makes me wonder how the company masters in question fool people for so long, and always makes me worry about it souring people on free companies in general. That would be a bad assumption for people to make, but of course no matter how many good FC masters there are, the bad ones can still overshadow the good, because people are more apt to remember the bad over the good.

I agree completely, as a FC leader also. It's just really difficult for GM's to solve these kind of problems. As someone else said, it's more of a grey area rather than a black and white rule which can be easy to solve, especially if there's no evidence. I suggest to the OP like you said to screenshot anything in the future though, just in case.

This is no longer his issue. GMs will not investigate secondhand information like this. He's no longer in the FC, nor is his friend. If the people in said FC have a problem, they need to report their grievances to the GMs, who will then tell them they won't interfere with issues between players. Nothing the FC master did was against SE's policies. They donated the items to the FC. The FC leader can then decide who has access to those features. is the FC leader a jerk? Sure, but the FC still has 170ish members. This means a whole bunch of people don't care enough about said issue to stop enabling him.

In my eyes I say thats deserves the leader to be punished but technically he can do that, like for example my old fc leader was pregnant so she took a vacation and left the fc in the hands of someone I thought was my friend . Long story short the new fc leader was basically getting angry with me when i would fight back when he would bully me, he threaten to kick me if I didn't let him bully me. GM said this is personal business, so I took all my stuff from the fc house and left. Sadly this is unfair, we need a button to kick evil leaders or fc leaders who just stopped playing that would solve so much.

My FC on Diabolos server charges 10 dollars a month to do fc activities, or to join FC statics.

A "button to kick FC leaders" is absurd. If the leader is that bad, just leave and join a new FC. I can understand to some extent but that is just too far.
