I've been reading around and getting mixed messages, so a quick question. I was under the impression that the idea of gatherer gear is to get 60 gear from the market board, then collect red scripts until I get the "end game" gear, which for me would be miner.
I made the assumption of getting the crafted gear as HQ and melding them. So far I have about half the gear, lacking the MH, OH, body and few accessories. When reading up though, I'm noticing many buy NQ then upgrade to red script gear. And then others say melded HQ is better then even the script... Which I think is great, saves me a lot of effort aside making money to afford the gear.
Can I get some opinions on what to do? Thank you

Depends on what you want and how fast... if you want to be able to mine HQ sooner, get HQ gear sooner.
If you like melding and don't want to worry about caps until 4.0, get HQ gear and meld it, and keep it. It's fine.
If you hate melding, all red scrip gear is fine to get everything currently. On the way to that goal, the blue scrip gear is fine, even, so I assume NQ gear is even better.
So all in all it just depends if you're willing to meld a bunch or not. I suggest if you DO want to meld then just save for HQ gear to begin with, don't bother with melding NQ gear. -

Right now the only red scrip gear that beats pentamelded HQ is the mainhand and the chest piece.

I actually planned to get the red script chest and gloves cus they have 4 gp and the rest do not. Did i screw myself out of the 6 perception i had on my i150 gloves or will the i180 balance it out enough?
And yea., i just finished melding my i170 crafted stuff. Go big or go home, 774 gp. -

There really isnt much investment yet tbh in 700 gp. But "yet" is key.
When new nodes come out and we as gatherers can barely touch it, i will be using toil + 30% hq + 15% rate to get that 6th proc easier.
And plus honestly other than the few melds i did on my left side most of my gp comes from my accessories which i paid close to 30m for and no.i dont expect to make that back easily nor can i argue that 700gp is worth 30m but hey im a gatherer first and formost when it comes to anything but my Monk and i knew when id get these accessories it would be go big or go home. -
