It is you're right. Seeing those empty slots that I can't use completely gets to my OCD nature.
If SE really want to keep the slot limit it would be nice to see the slots increase as your physical level or class rank increases. The 12 slot limit is really painful, especially for GSM who find it difficult to sell 4 slot accessories because most people realise you gain more benefits wearing the lower ranked 3 slot accessories.
I would rather keep this limit 12/12 from the start. However I would increase it during the game with serie of party-based quests. So after some serie of quests we could be on 18/18 (plain example). ! :P

Couldn't agree more. Specially now that I'm a higher rank, and I'm still stuck with 12 slots. I mean come on. 12 is barely anything. I think rings alone take up like 3 slots.
I have to agree with this. Giving specific slots (Ring & Bracelet, ears and neck) and then limiting to a slot total is just confusing, Especially to newer players I would assume. Just another case of being different to be different..
I can kind of see where they were going with the slot system for accessories. Just think the costs for a bunch of things are way out of whack.
if rings and armlets were brought down to 2 slots across the board and earrings and neck pieces were brought down to 1. it would force a choice between the following load outs for accessories
4 rings
2 earrings
neck or wrist
2 rings
2 wrist
2 earrings
neck or extra ring
4 rings
1 wrist
2 earrings or second wrist or 1 earring and neck.
yes each load out leaves empty spaces in the equipment screen. but it allows us much more flexibility on what we can equip to augment our characters while retaining the limitations on that augmentation that the slot system is designed to create.
The devs should use this as an opportunity to encourage more horizontal leveling (ranking up more than one class).
Give each class a class quest at rank 20 and rank 30 that grants one additional accessory cost point. This would give everyone a reason to rank up more than one class.
If you rank up every class to at least 20, you'll have 30 slot points, and if you rank each class up to at least rank 30, you'll have 48 slot points.
They need to reduce the slot capacity to 6
They need to increase the slot cost of all accessories by 1.
Best solution for everyone whether they like it or not.
Just simply needs to be removed, period. If that is too much for people to handle, then just increase the slot limit at every 10th rank. don't need some stupid fanfare or big deal made. It would be a waste of resource to make a quest and some cutscenes stating you can now equip another ring! Just increase the limit automatically as you rank up, just like your other stats increase automatically too.
Save the development resources for thing needed to make game play better.

Yeah it's stupid that you can only equip three rank 40+ accessories. In FFXI you could always equip five accessories. I'd rather SE just get rid of slot cost and make it simple like allow you to equip no more than 5 or 6 total accessories. The system will be completely broke when the rank cap is raised if it continues like it is because a slot cost of 5 for a ring would not work at all. SE probably intended slot cost to increase but never got round to implementing a method to do this.
Accessory HQs need changing too as all the stats you'd want from an accessory get no bonus on an HQ. I made a thread on that in the crafting section but it got swamped out by a lot of trash threads.
Remove the slot cost, balance the jewelry stats. That's all that really needs to be done.

Removing the slot cost and strictly enforcing gear rank requirements could also work, yes.
^Basically this. If they actually do proceed with putting restrictions on gear, I really don't see why slot cost would be needed. If they're really intent on us not decking ourselves out in the lower levels, they should at least let us unlock slots as we level up.
There is not 1 practical reason as to why having this limitation.
Counting just how lite stats actually does for you , i see Not 1 particular good reason to not be able to equip all of your available slots.
I can see the pro's and con's of removing this limitation.. There's always a point that when tipped over.. Your character can become a little OP.. As now a Gladiator can have 21 VIT in accessories at one point.. With all slots free to equip to at will it'd at least double, not to mention double the DEF from them as well as give attack/mag accuracy.. It's a bit much. They should strip away 2 of the ring slots and the wrist slots, THEN remove the restriction.
2 rings, 2 earrings and a necklace is a good system. Worked for many years in XI.
Is not OP if everyone can do it, its just an excuse to not balance the game correctly, that is all.
Is not only this, theres many caps in game witch only porpoise is to "limit" players simply because they didnt balance the game correctly.
Is a lazy way to develop a game, this way of thinking should be punished.
It's also not OP if they just balance the stats out a bit and give them a rank requirement.
Overpowered? Nah, not really. Even with 4 Silver Rings, 2 Mythril Writlets, A Mythril Choker, and 2 Electrum Earrings, your character wouldn't be that much more powerful than if he just had 4 Silver Rings (slot cost 12).
So you can have +21 VIT using accessories now, no big deal. For one thing, stat points don't give as much benefit as they should (with the exception of your natural VIT and MND points). The added 21 VIT isn't going to increase your defense all that much, neither is the +30 or so extra defense that you would get from those accessories. +VIT on gear isn't even going to increase your max HP. It's nearly useless compared to +HP or +accuracy or +attack items.
Let me fill all my slots with jewelry, it's more fun that way, and hardly game-breaking.
I really wish we could have a way to increase maximum slots AND get more varied jewelry with effects other than plain stat increase (poison immunity, etc)

I can't believe someone was defending this wreck of a system. If the accessories make you overpowered then I dunno, MAKE SOME ACTUAL GAME BALANCING maybe?!
We all see how little the game has balance and they're going to have to go through every stat anyway. Why not do all that work on a product that's fixed so that there's not always this annoying gaping hole of logic in it?
Every single MMO gets stat changes all the time no matter how old they are. It's not something new an unheard of that shouldn't be messed with.
I'm not defending the current system at all, I'm just saying there's pros and cons to taking the limitation away, of course with the proper and correct balancing it'd be amazing. But until that happens it SHOULD NOT happen. S'all I was saying. There's more important things, etc, etc.
I have been calling for the slot costs destruction ever since i started the game (when i equipped some jewelery). There was never any reason to have it. More Jewelry takes more inventory space anyways, so why not just let me wear what I have the inventory space for.
SE please remove the cap so I can make a fortune on my GLD with all the accessories I will sell so everyone can fill every slot ^^

This system does not make sense and is imbalanced.
At rank 30 I can either equip 4 Silver Rings (rank 28) for Accuracy +16
or
4 Brass Rings and 2 Brass Earrings (all rank 18 i believe) for Accuracy +12 and Evasion +6 which in my opinion is better if not equal to the above example. Please correct me if you disagree.
This doesn't seem right. When I raise in rank I should be rewarded by being able to get more of a bonus (by equipping 4 Silver Rings and 2 Silver Earrings for example) not penalized with less of a bonus.
There are other problems with this current system:
1) Empty accessory slots. I think the majority of players will agree they would prefer to be able to fill these empty slots with equipment.
2) Unused accessory points. Having 11/12 due to a mismatch of accessory slot costs feels like I am not optimizing my equipment to its fullest.
What's the big deal? So players get some extra bonuses from equipping more accessories. I think this is an acceptable cost in exchange for a huge relief to many players. Let's keep the focus of this game on having fun not being strict and enforcing limitations. Accessory sales will go up rewarding crafters and currently useless accessories (necklaces) will be more valuable. Also players will have more fun collecting all the best "bling" for their characters and their characters will be slightly more powerful when fighting all those monsters. Who doesn't want their characters to be more powerful?
Please remove this limitation. It's just not in the spirit of Final Fantasy.
Good points, yes. Another thing I want to point out is how the accessory slot restriction makes me waste inventory space. Let me explain.
As a MRD, I can either spec for tanking or spec for DD when in a party.
When I tank I wear: 2 Mythril Wristlets and 2 Brass Rings.
When I DD I wear: 4 Silver Rings
When I solo I wear: 2 Copper Wristlets and 4 Brass Rings.
This has led to me carrying around 12 items, when all I really should need to have are 2 Mythril Wristlets and 4 Silver Rings. It's hardly overpowered compared to the other three configurations I listed above, and it would be a lot easier to manage.
It doesn't make any sense that the optimized gear loadout for me is not comprised of high rank items, but rather of lower rank items.
