Is Scholar supposed to be this strangely inconvenient?

Whenever my level is synched, I can't cast aero, protect, or resurrection. This wouldn't bother me so much, but it just seems strange that a healing class is unable to revive fallen party members? Am I supposed to take Raise from conjurer instead or something? It's not only in dungeons, but also in fates and storyline quests. Is this supposed to be like this? Does it change at a higher level?

When level sync'd you have access to the skills you would have had at that level. So 22 for resurrection, you don't get to backport anything from higher up. The same goes for your cross-class slots, you have as many as you would have at that level so cross-class skill assigned to slots that wouldn't have yet been unlocked are unavailable. Same reason you don't see level sync'd BLMs casting Fire 4 in Copperbell Mines. I can see an argument that could be made about allowing core utility in, but that's a fuzzy line to draw and nobody will agree on where to put it. So fairs, fair and all skills get treated the same.

Assign your most valued utility to your lowest-order CC slots to ensure they'll be available in the most situations. If the res is super important to you, you could put raise in slot 1 and have it from 12, but since it doesn't work in combat and shortcuts are a thing It's probably not something you have to sweat so much.

Thank you! I wasn't aware that I had made a mistake like that. (For some reason, I had Cleric Stance in the first slot??? I don't even use it.) Anyway, the reason I thought there was a problem is because there was a time that Resurrection didn't work in Thousand Maws, so I assumed there was an issue. Of course, that IS an issue, just not the same sort. Weird things like that have been happening lately. Anyway, thanks again!

I would get your flame shield ready for this,especially given you play scholar. Anyway, you can also rearrange your cross class skills in a dungeon depending on what you need. It does put them on cooldown when you do this in a dungeon though.

AST and SCH should absolutely have Cleric in slot 1, Protect in slot 2. Beyond that is Swiftcast, Aero, etc. I would argue for Aero in slot 2, but I like Protect.

If you're playing SCH and in a low level dungeon, your Fairy does literally all the healing for you... You really don't have much reason to be not in Cleric unless the dps keep standing in aoes. In which case just autotranslate "Hall of the Novice" at them. :p

This is all fine and dandy once you've got a good handle on the fairy and her healing range. I was certainly a healthy handful of runs in and still baffled at why she randomly seemed to heal sometimes and not others before I realized I was often just standing too far back for her to effectively do her thing. It isn't at all intuitive, or at least wasn't for me. "All DPS all the time" is also probably just not the best mindset to be starting from, though that may just be my background healing in other games talking.

As a healer don't dps until you're comfortable. I took my healing jobs to 50 before I started getting comfortable swapping stances and relying on my fairy. Also, until you get adlo, shadowflare, rouse, and lustrate, you've got less quick recovery tools if you spend too long in cleric stance.

Everyone learns at their own pace and healer dps is really only required at endgame.

Usually I keep Protect in slot 1, cast it and immediately swap in Cleric as slot 1 for low-level dungeons. Most (but not all) of my abilities will eat a 30 second cooldown. Yeah -- you're not likely going to die in low-level dungeons without Protect but some players get pissy and expect it regardless.

I was mainly discussing someone who has one of those classes to 60 or someone far enough along to know the basics of how to heal. Hell, in any dungeon where you *don't* have access to your second cross-class skill (Sastasha and Tam-Tara normal mode are literally the only two), you can leave Cleric on and throw the odd Physick and still never run into issues while sync'd, tbqh.

And re: Protect slot 1: that's definitely option 2. I don't like it, because I find it to be a major hassle. xD
I'll swap it if the group refuses to go on without their 2 extra Defense, but otherwise meh.

But yeah, I wasn't trying to imply everyone should be learning the Job using Cleric, just that any 60 SCH or AST should be running Cleric pretty much 80-95% in any sub-47 dungeon (Aurum Vale sucks).

You activate Clerics stance and then remove it from your bar because you never need to actually deactivate it in a low level dungeon :P

Start with Protect in the first slot followed by Aero, Swiftcast, Cleric Stance, Stoneskin.

After Protect has been cast, remove it and Cleric Stance.

Place Cleric Stance in Protect's old slot. This will only stop you from using Cleric Stance for 5 seconds and not put anything else in CD. Put protect back in its place after your dungeon is over. :3

Consider your faerie can solo-heal low level dungeons like you were in, you may want to consider heavy use of cleric stance.

If you remove it from your Cross Class, it's canceled.
If you really want some switch out, start with Protect and switch out CS.

Or be lazy like me and don't even bother casting Protect, you don't need it in Sastasha, Tam-tara, and the Mines anyway.

I prefer to keep Protect in the first slot and CS in the second. Either way, you're only affected up to 20 and the difference is all but negligible.

Cleric Stance can't be canceled without a) changing job/sync or b) firing the ability a second time. If you use it and then unslot it for, say, Stoneskin or Blizzard II, you keep the buff, and cannot deactivate it until you slot it again.

That's crazy weird

Still not worth the hassle of not being able to use skills for 30 seconds...that's just my opinion though.

Best piece of advice I have seen I the forums today, I cannot belive I has neglecting something so obvious as cross-class slots order, now I know why that pesky protect didnt wanted to work on guildhests :D

One time I randomly got Sastasha when I was levelling AST and the tank died on the first pull because I put Protect on, switched it for CS, and figured 30 seconds was more than enough time between walking towards the first pull and the first Benefic was needed. The tank died in like 4 seconds before I could do anything lmao. That's the problem in healing low level dungeons, sometimes you get really new tanks with no gear or who are wearing Disciple of War gear instead of tank gear q-q. I apologized and explained, and he also explained he had taken the wrong gear by mistake, so it was no biggie, but it was still really embarassing.

Scholar shouldn't really have that problem, though, so long as you pre-summon Eos before you enter cooldown from switching Cross Class skills.

I just keep CS on the first slot. As I had to tell (and demonstrate) on some group, at least on SCH the fairy can nearly soloheal the place even without protect and it still had downtime. Same goes for other healer classes, even without Protect on, healing the lowest level places isn't exactly taxing. So I don't bother to go through the hassle of switching it if I happen to chance to the ones with only one slot.

Please don't. I left playing WoW quite some time ago because of all of the people with that sort of attitude.
If someone is making a mistake step one is to offer them helpful advice on it, not name call them. They are often more likely to then consider that advice, and if they do it makes it better then next time around for people that group with them. Likewise if others do the same to be helpful it then you and I and others are less likely to encounter the same issue repeating.

I wouldn't advise that for a newbie healer, though, they should take all that easy healing as a chance to get comfy with stance-dancing instead.

For SCH prot > CS IMO because:

Protect on party
Summon Eos
Put tank on follow
Walk away from computer
Profit
