Say what???? (something i've never seen)

Ok so something has come into play that makes me do "say what".

This is REALISM in a final FANTASY game.

people are complaing about anything that is not realistic. Like the possible spam jumping, swimming, monster sizes etc.

Sorry but you realism guys need to look up the world fantasy. It wasn't meant to be realistic.
why people shouldn't talk about realistic things.
1 cat girls... sorry but HELLO when you see a female cat humanoid walking down the street let me know. Other then that this is a fabled japanese race. (cat girls are big in anime or the other other anime.....)

2 our character do not age or have children

3 12 hours days. 6 hours of day 6 hours of night,

4 Everyone runs around everywhere with out eating.

5 we never die, we just get Ko'ed.

Please stop wanting realism in a japanese fantasy rpg. There are plenty of realistic rpg. Two worlds 2 has (minus undead and orcs) has realitic backdrops and creatures. I'm kind of annoyed that ppl shoot down ideas because it isn't realistic. (continued)

id somewhat agree to some points but...lol the dreamtoads,
i cant even see my duo partner behind that thing.

I like fantasy as much as the next person but some thing just dosent fit in.

There are many things that can bring in more content if added. Jump will allow the devs to funny flesh out the world, they can add hidden locations like water falls for fishing, hidden caves for miners, the ability to explore all of your surrondings. Swimming can add so much more to fishing and exploring.

Mob sizes help make the world feel evil. If i want to fight a toad, i want that toad to look evil (size helps do this) I want to feel like i'm in a different world.

I'm all for adding some stuff for better roleplay, But again this us a fantasy game. Its in the title, if you want realism in fantasy you take stuff to seriously. Its being a Cynic in my eyes. Heck asking for realism in a rpg video game is silly.

Try to suggest or allow ppl to suggest keeping this game a fantasy game. Too much realism will make it less of a fantasy. Guys should look up The page master..... good movie. Anyone asking for realism= the boy.

Also stop hating for sake of hating. It is hard to brain storm if ppl hate for sake of.

Actually giant toads are the norm in japanese fantasy.
look at naruto, spirited away, And several others. So giant toads do infact fit since final fantasy is japanese fantasy.

NOT if the huge monster gets half of it's body stuck in a tree & only its big butt sticking out.
The dreamtoad wasnt designed to be that large and now it causes unfantasisesd feel to the game.
It looks broken, defect.

Not to mention i did some Dreamtoad leve earlier yesterday & the toad covered the entire pathway in the Black shroud Forest, its so huge even it back leg has sticking outside the physical boundries of the game. I couldnt care less if thats realistic or fantasy , it just plain looks broken.

It also looks like if i kick it...i could one shot it, but i cannot kick it can i, i can in reality why can i not do this in a fantasy?
Everything dosent have do with realism, its about natural order of things, lore based monsters in their natural habitat.

It just plain looks wrong, hillarious OMFG thats one big mofo'n toad but still so wrong.

I'd hate to see that thing from a lalafell's perspective, jesus just imagine the Auto-target lock on that thing.
That dreamtooad jumping could cause anyone an epileptic seizure.

Couldn't say that better myself.

Realism is something to inspire a game's development, and it is not as important as a sensible and fun game mechanics. And immersion is too subjective in most cases to use as a metric. "Hey, that female armor is showing too much skin, you call that piece of iron bra a Plate Mail?" <- an example of a proper argument for this case.

immersion is interacting with in the game world

Giant toads bigger than Peiste, I'm annoyed by that. I want Peiste the size of Godzilla, why it still stays the same as it was while the toad got larger? Precisely this is Final Fantasy I want Drake and Basilisk to dwarf something like a Toad, not the other way. After all, do you think a Carbuncle that is bigger than Bahamut will make it more fantastic in FF games, or the other way around?

I put immersion in quotations because it varies from person to person. To me, immersion is starting a game and then when you put it down, you realize that you played for 3 more hours than you planned. And to me, nothing breaks immersion more than frustrating game mechanics. Seeing other people doing stupid things has no effect on me, as long as I'm able to play the game as I want.

I'm all for immersion but it's hard to feel like you're fishing when in almost every cliff in the game you have to fish while floating in mid-air.

The whole fishing mechanism is another topic though...

I also love how people always equate jumping to realism. I have never stepped outside my door and seen adults jumping around. Walking but not jumping.

all you guys saying is immersion as I've described it. so... umm.. ya...

any form of interation with a game world is immersion. Like reading a book. You immerse yourself into the story.

so I've always wonder why/ how stuff get programed to float when on cliffs and stairs.
Also.... pasite are giant lizads, same as drakes. A toad in a fantasy sence can dwarf them. (some toads do eat small lizards) fantasy don't always need to make sense. :)

the point of this post is to get ppl back on track to what the point of this forums is for. It isn't easy to make a suggestion topic due to debates much like realism or "immersion" (better)

I agree, it's a fantasy world and don't have to be bound by something like realism. However it don't mean that everything have to break realism.

If it was, why add jumping? Add flying instead, it'll be faster easier to go everywhere and who care if our characters float midair, it's a fantasy world!

Or why have hp? We could all be invincible, it would make exploring and fighting so easier!

I know what I said is taken to the extreme and silly but I'm just trying to make the point that fantasy only mean that realism can be broken, not that it have to.

Also that would be a point in favor of no jumping actually. Not being able to jump is irrealistic but it's ok, it's fantasy! Maybe the gravity is so high that pc characters are unable to jump unless they are in battle and have focus their strength during a long time for a special attack!

I know what Kilta is say and I agree. We've beaten some of these subjects, like jumping, to death. There isn't much more that needs to be said because even Yoshi-P responded say he understands all sides of the debate. Let's move forward and think up some other crazy, off the wall, ideas. What would you like to see added to make this game more immersive to you?

Like I said in another thread: people whom are so immersed in a game are not immersed in real life... so they forget what is real and what isn't.

They all live in their fantasy world where they don't age, take a crap or have any of the real life biological needs that their character seem to be lacking.

Jumping adds immersion to the game. And it is hard to suggest this due to the realism crowd who mis use the word for immersion.

Ben I think you misunderstood my post. I'm trying to be silly with my points, but my point is that we are fighting over silly concepts like realism and immersion (which ppl confusing realism with immersion) and can't get a good topic brain storm in. It gets ruined by I hate it fir sake of hating it.

Pointless debates don't make for a good community or help the game.
These forums are suppose to help the game and for us to build a community. So far we are having a civil war over realism over dead horse topics. And completely off track to what the point of these forums are for.

im not really much against Huge mobs, im rather impressed on how such a huge fat toad can actually move so well with no lagspikes going off all the time, and well its a "OMFG" moment the first time you see the darn thing. (funny as hell)

And well we do need some funny stuff just to have a reason to say: /s lol Wtf was that?

But like i said it did seem unnatural in its current enviorment.

I can understand why they made the rats / puks and rest of bugs bigger, they kinda hard to spot when they're in the tall grass / bushes.
But i think some creatures are well somewhat oversized / pumped up on steroids.

For example, the gnats... they now Hoover in slooooow-motiooooon, like they on some bad crack.
Looks funny but not very evil, and thats well an understatement since those gnat can
pack one hell of a punch if you're in direct line of fire.

The idea of underwater content is a fantasic idea, it somewhat brings back memories from some of the older FF games. (cant remember wich, think it was FFIV...possibly FFVI, serpent trench or somthing)
Back then that was one of the coolest things ever.

And jumping.... well if it serves a general adveturing purpose such as get to higher / lower ground, get through/over obstacles etc. (Sliding down a hill should work aswell), still at this point with so much debate about jump or not, idc.

I prolly wont waste my time spamming jump, i have better things to do if playing an mmo.

Even more so if one day i have to pay a montly fee, and if that was the case right now,
who the hell would want Jump over content if you were forced to pay a monthly fee?
But atm thats not the case, game is still free to play but for how long?

You presented and argument and I just presented a counter-argument. I didn't try to do it in a disrespectful way and I don't think I've been impolite. I'm not trying to troll or anything just to present my opinions.

It's true that immersion and realism get misused often. However what is immersion and isn't is not the same for everyone. Same thing for what you call the difference between fantasy and stupid. I know that the stuff i post were really extreme examples however what could seem alright for someone will seem downright stupid for someone else.

That's why the jumping debate among other will never end. It's not a debate of facts or what is better but simply one of opinions.

As a matter of fact, i don't have a strong opinion about jump. Ideally i'd like either no jump or a jump with a few limitation like can't move as fast while jumping but I can live with whatever they'll add in the end.

I might have do it in a bad way but I just wanted to say that realism and fantasy aren't incompatible and that wanting realism isn't a bad thing. Like for jumping it's just a matter of opinions.

anyway Arm ok I get ya, but here is the thing. I'm making a silly point the real point in my post is at the very end. We are too busy debating each other over stupid stuff that no one is brain storming ideas to fix the game, or trying to build a good community.

ya this is why I say this. I said the aggro Icon is good as I used to play the game for 2 hrs a day no time on weekends. And someone insulting me to no end calling me a lolWoWbaby for approving it.

in reallity what does the Icon really do? show you aggro mobs. Sometimes said mobs are not easy to see. And thats is all. Said Icon don't not share any more info then a visual. Just because we see a mob is aggressive don't do much to us. We still got to learn how to avoid it. Why waste time avoiding every mob when you just need to avoid the agressive ones. And even still need to learn how to avoid them

I think everyone should lat go of their hate for World of warcraft. That game isn't as easy as ppl assume. Bring your hatred for a game just bring in drama.
We should be a bit less insultive to those who may not have all the world to learn certain aspects of games.

making a games learning curve less intimidating is a good way to bring in players. Games are suppose to be about fun not difficulty.
