Could the players be rewarded for their performance?

I know this is a controversial topic, but let's think about it for a second.

Right now the players are only motivated to clear the content, cutting corners as much as possible, putting the minimal effort their consciousness allows them, just to finish the run and get their loot/tomes.

We could call it participation awards. Everyone gets one. It seems fair, yet it is not fair for the players who put in more effort and try their best.

In my opinion there should be reward based motivation for the players to stay focused on the game instead of something else. There are many ways of doing this. It could be either reward based or punishment based. The rewards of course sound better so could there be some rewards awarded based on the performance?

For example:

Bonus experience.
Bonus tomes.
Bonus gil.
Bonus chests.
Bonus loot like minions or bardings.
Bonus on the rolls.
Priority in the DF queues etc. etc.

Basically something worthy of doing your best instead of sleeping through the run.

We could even add few dungeon objectives here and there to make the dungeons more interesting and more rewarding.

In my opinion positive motivation is the best motivation.

The game would have to calculate in-game score in some way or another for each role/job separately.

Things like damage done, effective healing done, damage avoided, enmity generated, deaths, mechanics completed, abilities interrupted, clear times on bosses etc. while considering the item level of course.

Some fine-tuning would be needed but it would be possible to create algorithms for the performance.

Nice. Then we can get even more players to rage and people to quit this game. Love it.

In all seriousness, though, only if the other players can't see your stats. And even then, there's no way to implement this system without failing.

I don't see any reason why should others see the stats as long as the rewards are good enough for the effort. It would be challenging at first, but I believe our devs would eventually fix the issues.

I don´t get it - this is in place already.

The more you mess up, the higher your loot roll is at the end.

Case study done in about 40 Alex normal runs :P

Not just that. They'd also have to take every single dungeon, class, and gear into account. That's insanely hard to do well. That would definitely punish classes that couldn't reach the same numbers. No more PLD or BRD

I am not saying it would not require certain amount of work, it definitely would. But it would help players to be more motivated to improve their performance.

Also I call it a bonus, because it should be a bonus. Something extra for each single player individually. Right now we have only the group rewards, which creates issues of its own.

there's no way to accurately gauge performance in a dungeon.

even with base template scores from pre forms, so many variables, is the group end game elites who sleep through A4S? or are they new? what about in between, is the group pure duty finder with a new tank? a savage cleared and tested healer and 2 mid core dps who aren't rubbish but far from epic? nice idea but implementing such a thing wouldn't work tbh too much work and impossible essentially to implement accurately so it favours all party compositions

It shouldn't matter if you are a savage raider or a newbie. The item level should increase the score requirements tho.

The performance of the whole group should make only a portion of the final score. So even if the person A reaches only the reward level 1, the person B should be able to reach reward level 3 etc. It might be slightly harder, but the possibility should exist and be more related to the individual instead of the group.

People would abuse this. A tank can pull a mob and just sit there forever while the healer spams heals. In 8 man parties, the two tanks would be trying to MT simply because the OT would get way less EXP. Healers would try to heal only MT for more EXP. The idea sounds nice on paper, but that's about it. Incentive to get better scores would only cause people to play badly in a different way for the sake of more rewards.

There are limits that could be placed. Certain amount of score per a pack. Also the longer it would take to kill, the less would damage dealers get points. When the reset happens the score could be reseted to the value before the pack.

When it comes to healers and tanks the dpsing should award more points for dpsing in comparison to damage dealers. This could make up for the score difference.

Imho the rewards should have fixed levels like grade marks etc. and the best one shouldn't require 100% of the job's pontential, but something like 90% till it would drop to 50% where there would be no bonus at all.

The tricky part would be to give points for the good behaviour instead of exploiting on which I agree.

The main issue could be the development time, I am not sure how much resources would it take for the devs to go back through the old content and set up the scores... maybe we could start in the newer one tho.

It sounds nice and all, but I think it is unnecessary. People will most often times try their best because they want to finish the run quickly as to be more efficient, and I've never seen someone want or try to draw a run out. While it is nice to promote people trying their best, I feel like there is already enough to accomplish this, without risking so much with a new system.

It would also give the content certain replayability and there could be a whole achievement branch designed around it.

Not to mention the change in the monotony of our current system, which would be refreshing on its own.

Last I checked, the bonus you get for doing a good job was a commendation, but I could be wrong.

On a more serious note, I don't want to see this added, simply due to it being a waste of resources. The dev's are already struggling to make content that will last from patch to patch. I don't see a need to make thing that aren't going to really change anything, because lets be honest, the real problem is the players themselves, and no amount of free giveaways will fix it.

I don't think I could handle something like that.. I'd be overly-stressed trying to appease everyone's standards. I already try as hard as I can to optimize everything I'm doing regardless of the content, never slacking off, etc. I still mess up on occasion or have bad luck with an AOE placement, etc. I don't think we need more things to be judged and yelled at over. I realize some people are lazy, but I do think a majority still try hard in dungeons, even if they are making some mistakes. A lot of it comes down to memorizing the content, and many simply haven't run it 50 plus times due to time constraints/whatever.

EDIT: I read this as still being a party-based thing. If you mean individual reward that others aren't aware of, that could be a cool idea.
