Note: I was directed to posting these on the forums though they themselves are rather lengthy and exceed the allowed limit. So I'm going to post links to the info if anyone is interested. These are all ideas I've been having and I have a lot more to come but wanted to see if anything would bite with the community. Thank you in advance to all feedback. And these are just ideas, they can be built upon, tweaked, and expanded upon to fit into the format the game offers. ^=^

But....changing weapon already changes our abilities? Just ask for a job that uses a bo staff instead of trying to tack it onto MNK?

Already made a topic on having each job have a secondary weapon witch changes there skills but I agree 100 percent we need diversity and that would be a great way to make me different from my fellow DRK. PEOPLE say that will limit the weapons for future jobs. But there are so many weapons out there.

That's not the point.
The point is that it'd make it so the existing jobs skills change based on the weapon. That doesn't happen currently. In the case of BLM and WHM changing from a staff to a wand does absolutely nothing for you. And are practically pointless after 50. And if you change weapons otherwise you end up on a whole new job. The whole point of it is a new approach to adding new skills to existing jobs without just tacking more skills ontop of existing ones and making us have to find more hotbar space. It's also a way to add even more versatility to each job since it will rework their playstyle slightly. Lol... As stated in the thing.

Note: I also don't necessarily want MNK to use Bo Staves all listed examples were just used to display that different weapons on each job were rather simple to figure out and to display possibilities. Requesting a new job that uses a Bo staff is logical, but asking to make a whole new job in some cases could be harder than working on an existing formula. Just depends on the approach.

Well yeah that would limit it, but theres nothing to say jobs couldn't use similar weapon types anyway. If the whole point is to have a job that plays differently who cares if it has a bow or a sword too? I mean look at FFXI, there were jobs that literally used the same set of weapons as other jobs. That didn't stop anyone from enjoying the jobs due to their playstyle.. So people who say that need to look at the big picture. We could have 3 jobs with bows and they'd all play different. Not to mention your point of there being so many weapons.

Know bc u have the same job some skills will stay the same no matter what weapon chose. Example will be of WHM some core abilities will stay the same Example cure, cure II, cure III, will stay on the white mage no water what weapon u chose but the play style my alter example with a staff u focus on HoTS. With another weapon you still keep the cure spells but could focus on more burst healing or dps. Now with that being implement will that include to different relics for each job. And will secondary stats will be more important. For example a Whom focus on Hots may want SS as a secondary as a WhM focus on burst may want critical.

That's such an ineffective method of combat though; it sounds so weird. How would you even reload your cross bow if you've got two? You'd have to put each down, load the bolt, and then load your other, then fight.

I'd take just about any customization I can get, but I'm not sure giving each job a secondary weapon is the best way to go about it. For instance, MNK getting a staff or MCH getting a two-handed rifle could prevent jobs whose entire skillsets are actually tailored towards and make sense for that weapon, thereby ultimately reducing the options we have available by giving those to variants, rather than new, original developments (though in their case too we can only hope they actually feel original in design). Vindictus did a pretty good job with secondary weapons, but I can't really imagine the same amount of well-crafted difference being available to our current jobs' skills if each were given a new weapon. Most seem unlikely to change outside of that single aesthetic. "Allowing for new animations" without consciously creating different gameplay is generally developmental waste.

That said, you mention larger revamps to the skills and class systems. What do you have in mind?

Would also like to see built-in parsers, if only personal, possibly with a 'share' setting. In the training halls or paired with the mentor system, something that tracks ability uses over time would be great for helping to improve one's rotation. Short of that, I'd just really like to be able to see what instant cast a player used last, much like we can see party spell bars when casting. It helps often with knowing when a positional will be coming up, especially if I have the combat sounds turn down, so that I can move/turn only after it.

Would love the "Friends Only" chat mode (or, expanded, "Acquaintances Only" - nearby says, ls's, fc, region chat when outside of cities, tells by friends, fc-mates, ls-mates, and some way to pass through this filter only when clicking 'message player' through the PF).

Out of curiosity, would your dueling use a sort of (i)lvl sync, or no? Personally I don't see this as likely working out very well, especially due to our heal outputs relative to damage, and, inversely, the ability to near-permanently interrupt casters, but would enjoy this if it were eventually somehow enjoyably balanced.

As for glamor-space, would you be interested in a B&S-style Wardrobe (probably just through a revision of the glamor system - permanently storing Mirages after using a prism once on them, and being (basically) freely able to swap them out in the open world after via the Mirage Prism page) or just expansions to what you can store in your inn room?

It wouldn't impede new jobs that use the same weapons. Again to refer to Final Fantasy XI. The point is as the game evolves and gains more mechanics is nearly impossible to not have a complementary kit for it. And no one is saying how far it'd change the job. Completely revamping a job would be pointless, but giving them options to expand upon their existing kit is the concept. I myself have come up with ideas how how these changes would be implemented (that I didn't list because that's going way to far) and I'd like to assume a full team of developers could do even better. Ha-ha. But I do see where you are coming from. This is more so a way to combat skill bloat on hotbars, add more unique play styles to existing jobs, more utility, and also means that if they were struggling to figure out new jobs. An expansion could instead expand upon existing resources entirely. Rather than making things from nothing.

The changes to skills and the class system. It'd be a branch of my previously mentioned system or Yoshi P's skill tree concept. Allowing for existing skills to have different abilities or there to be other choices. I also feel our cross class system may have to be tweaked in the future, just a little, since although we gain a lot of useful skills (namely Blood for Blood, Swiftcast, and Raging Strikes), I feel many are not really that useful. And with no more classes being made some of these cross classes may get lost in time as we get more skills and utilities.

And I like your idea on the Friends Mode, but I feel that idea would need a bit of tweaking. At least at first. I feel at least initially, a friends only mode would be more likely. The bypassing idea may be cool in theory... But I'm sure bots would be capable of doing so too. As for the dueling, itd depend on how they go about implementing it. I'd say no, since my explained rewards, but it depends.

It would indeed impede future designs unless XIV goes the XI route of multiple weapon types available to each job. I hope it will, but at current, weapons are exclusive. Once a type is given, it is never given to another class or job, with the exception only of wands/scepters and canes/staves, which still differ in name. I understood fully what you hoped to accomplish by it, just not how your execution of the idea could accomplish those things. I'm just saying that the alternate-weapon route, in and of itself, may be much less lucrative. By itself, it does nothing. The changes that would run parallel to it that would make it provide more unique play styles and utility are probably what you should be focusing on first. Further, development costs are necessary for revamps or retailoring just as much as new developments, and 'new' developments are rarely entirely new. We received literally five new mechanics in Heavensward: player-caused buff (duration) extension (TD), buff sac'ing (Royal Road), chance combos (WT/F&C), and unlocked combos (Split/Slug/Clean(er) Shot), and player Doom state (Living Dead). Everything else added was essentially reuse. (Heck, two of those were already in the game, just not under player control.)

:: Btw, you can make posts of over 1000 characters. Just edit them afterwards to bypass the limit. I usually just write out the whole thing, ctrl-x, type 10 chars real quick, post, edit, paste, and done.

Edit: the "bypassing" would only possibly be an RMT concern for those who are currently recruiting party members. I doubt they'd suddenly become prime targets as a result. If so, though, it'd have to be adjusted so a recruiter can take the option of only accepting Recruitment tells from players who meet the requirements to join the party (or, separately, requirements to send Recruitment tells). The whole point of this is to allow people to recruit and answer tells without having to leave the RMT-blocking mode. Honestly though, if only for the feel of being on a server, I'd rather they just improved their tell-checking...

I wouldn't mind having skill tress either. ASTRO could split to Time and space magic. On the time magic branch astro would learn spells like haste, slow, stop and maybe even rewind. As for space magic they could focus on debuffs and dps with spells like comet, Nova, black hole just to be a few.

I still don't personally agree, but then again it's just one of those things I feel confident in and know that the team could find a way to make it work. It'd take as much time and in some cases less time then making a whole new job, just takes a bit of tweaking and innovation. The need to replace all skills isn't even necessary just some. But I get your opinion and respect it. ^w^ And thanks for the tip on the post lengths.

Could be interesting but not sure how exactly the whole "Stop" thing would be implemented in the game. Unless it just acted like some special silence/stun. Ally gets hit by attack, does a rewind like skill, reverses damage or detrimental attack. Sounds like a different way to heal... haha.Though that concept would be cooler if like... a time mage (or in your mentioned case, Astrologian), went DPS, and this was their way of maintaining some healing potential. I don't believe this specific instance would happen, but it's fun to think about.

That or D3's system, as the two are functionally similar.

The way it is now just means I have one retainer solely dedicated to holding items I'll never use outside of prisms.

as much as I love and adore this game I am like others, I would welcome any customization.

I am not sure how much it will change the game but little boosts could go a long way possibly. That great thread about using IX system on gear, spirit bond and get the ability boost..then can apply it to other pieces. Simple things like Cover: +10 yalms / Duration: +5 seconds.

I want to see Alchemy debuffs make a return in some way or just Alchemy in general. Right now the downtime for using things like drops and such is so far isn't worth it. It would let people use drops to remove poison let them take care of some things on their own.

To make this a bit more useful I'd like to see more Debuffs / Mob Buffs / Party buffs get applied. Since there will not be a support job slot enhance each jobs ability to do more for others in combat. This would make it a bit less of needing DPS checks, and in return jobs offer some sort of support to help get past hard to heal moments, or debuffs to help get through the fights. Otherwise we're just waiting for the iLV to get high enough to do the dance and power house through it. This would include things like making Magical resistance useful. Mix that up with Materia slots + ability slots..tanks who normally can't deal with heavy magical damage can build on it.

Of course there will always be an "optimal" way but there is no way to avoid that. Even now if you don't have the correct stats (S.S / Det etc...) you will be asked to try another route.

I what if we remove the cross class skills and add in specializations. Example let's take BLM and give it two different specialization s that you have to equip instead of having the 5 worthless cross class skills that most of the time we only use one. Each specialization has 5 or more unique skills that you use to add to your hotbar you could go even as far as having 5 skills and 5 traits that get added. Example let's give BLM specialization of Pyromancy and Cryomancy so instead of the cross class skills. You have specializations so if u equip a specializations you gain 5 new skills that you can use only under the specialization instead of having the worthless hawk eye skill. you could have a skill like PYROKENETIC makes your next fire spell instacast. That would mean that the healers will have to have their own protect spell but if they already gave a esuna spell to each healer than why not.
