So, someone really needs to say this...

I was going over the fankit because I'm a duh, fan.....

And I noticed some extremely problematic mistakes.

First of all: Not one wallpaper with Haurchefant. Um, hello, what? Seriously?
Ysalye had two. Heck, Aymeric has one and we've known Haurchey way longer. -_-

Let's be honest, 3.1 might as well have been the Haurchupdate. Our desktops/phones need him, too! *nudge nudge* Maybe a Fortemps family portrait?

But hey, I get it, that's a serious endeavor and his many fans will probably be ignored. =/ Having said that!

There is no Haurchefant, Ysalye, OR Estinien pixel icon (or Hilda!). And I'm sorry but we've got Godbert Manderville and even Lucia up in here. Or are we just throwing all of the most important Heavensward characters under a bus? I mean, I'm a pixel artist. I could make them. But there's this little problem known as copyright infringement if I make them available to other fans.

And on top of that, it's just a matter of: Where is the love?!

Meh, I'd rather they go back and rewrite the damn story/cs to give us the real Haurche from the JP version and not this toned down boring version the NA audience got.

Who's Haurchefant?

Because Haurchefant is just Haurchefant...he's just there. His character doesn't have much to do within either of the ARR or HW's storys. Should of had Shiva/Ysale in the spot light instead, I loved her from the get go and her death gave me feels like you would not believe (Ysale/WoL<3). Gods, I hope I'm not the only one who feels like this.

Agreed, i never heard anyone talking about how awesome Haurchefant was until AFTER he died. Nobody cared. He was just another dude in a very long storyline. And, I'm on the big RP server... If people like a character, they never shut up about them. Until his death? Nobody even mentioned him.

I was soo mad when a character I actually liked during Heavensward died. She was like the Moon Knight in White Knight Chronicles transforming in mid air and shet. I was like "YEAAAAAAHHH, kick aazzzz!!) but then she dies while my character once again sits like a friggen lump. Dammit. Hope they bring her back through Shiva or something. Like every interesting character who isn't the Scions just friggen die. Its annoying....

I actually liked Haurchefant even before he died. He was one of the few people not connected to the scions or the three starting city-states to actually help the adventurer of his own free will. Sure, we had to help him clear his friend's name, but after that he was willing to do whatever it took to help us. I'm going to miss him quite a lot.

Considering they basically made him "American" friendly for the English translations, it's no wonder some people don't understand. His Japanese counterpart was much more prominent in character, or so I've heard. Can't read Japanese myself :P

So don't have a lot of time to reply to each person at the moment but wanted to make a quick point:

Like dragonkyn, I *always* adored Haurchey. He was my favorite nom-voiced NPC BY A MILE. Here's the thing about people "not shutting up," about someone: not all of us use the forums as our place to gush. Most people I know are for more active over on reddit bscause no post limitations and the like and also because the forum community can be beyond brutal. And if it seems suspect to you, look at my forum history. You'll notice, I have barely posted outside of utility reasons for things like letting folks know Odin spawn times or requesting features. So maybe you didn't hear anything about him pre-death. Maybe plenty of people didn't care. But he had enough of a following here and in Japan for him to make an insanely awesome appearance in the 2014 Heavensturn event. (1/2)

And like Dragonflyy said: they totally ruined him in the US compared to JP......AND I still always loved him.

If you think I'm full of it, ask Dragonflyy. He's my husband and had to put up with me squeeling at the top of my lungs when Haurchefant became a major part of the MSQ and especially when he got a voice.

And the fact of thr matter is that regardless of when the love for him started, we couldn't have saved Ishgard without him. Period. That deserves as much respect as Ysalye. Although in my eyes it deserves a lot more because it was done out of love, selflessness, and the belief in something greater than ones self.

Everyone's forgetting Ysalye LEAD in the slaughter of innocents in her "quest" to save the world. Hate to tell ya'll, but even she wasn't a huge fan of herself at the end. Her Tale from the Dragonsong War makes that exceedingly clear. (2/2)

I found the Japanese version of Haurche way too creepy. The localizers did a good thing, in my humble opinion, even the North American version bordered on creepy.

I tried finding a picture of a skeleton drinking hot cocoa for the OP, but my google image search turned up blank.

In the jp version he was extremely animated, kindda silly and very flirtatious with your character. NA version he was very monotone, calm and boring.

There are a bunch of comparisons online that play the same cs side by side to show the difference and we even got an apology from the localization team about it.

Who's Haurchefant?

It's funny how Haurchefant posts always seem to attract a host of Haurchefant bashers. If you didn't care for the character, hey good for you, but don't pretend to speak for everyone else and make blanket statements like "no one cared about him before that event happened.

Personally, I liked him back when he made his rather enthusiastic entrance in Dragonhead. I didn't go ga-ga for him, but I liked him. When they made him more visible and active in the Heavensward quests, I liked him a lot more. But there's something about a

death of a character that will intensify a fan's feeling towards that character. And I'm not even just talking about FFXIV, this happens all the time in all sorts of stories. So it's not really a surprise that people would be more vocal about it after the fact... what's the saying? You don't know what you've got til it's gone?

Yoshida was asked about Haurchefant during a interview in November. And apparently since there's a huge outcry for more Lord H he says they might consider a way to make him reappear, most likely in a future flashback. So i'm on board with OP, if the Japanese fanbase and the countless forum posts is any indication, a Haurchefant piece for the fankit would be appreciated by many.

I just want a x1440 version of the wallpapers :(

You know, I actually liked the toned-down version of Lord H. Compared to the Japanese version, he could be taken way more seriously. Its really a balance issue between cultures, between what's acceptable and not. I mean, if you actually encountered the JP guy in real life, why wouldn't you be running in the opposite direction? There's also the consideration that this guy is rubbing up on you and you MAY already have a partner...then its just obscene.

Even then, despite what so many people whine about, the English version still resonated with those awkward 'Okay, you are TOTALLY getting all up in my space dude' feelings, but the translators turned it into formal, elaborate innuendo, so you'd actually think that he was just overly expressive instead of mentally unstable. I mean, I remember the part returning to Camp Dragonhead after 2.0, I asked my FC 'Is Haurchefant a lonely man? He's kinda being too...friendly." And the reaction after the event justified the whole thing, that he was someone that the players have grown attached to to make the impact of that scene more powerful. It would have lost a lot of it if he'd been reduced to just a perverted fanboy character.

On the other side of things, I kind of feel bad for totally forgetting Ysayle after the whole thing. Even though we spent a good amount of the game traveling with her, she kind of got overshadowed and felt like a lesser character no one really cared about.
